Meditative Mind is one of the only meditation centers in Boise. They offer an array of meditation and yoga classes. As far as yoga classes go, they offer Vinyasa, Hatha, and Therapeutic/restorative Yoga. Their meditation classes range from an hour long morning meditation, to Emotional Intelligence through meditation, to Healing & Growth through meditation, to mindfulness for children, and more. They take an «all denominational» approach in their classes, which fosters an attitude of inclusion and acceptance for all involved. I have been on the lookout for a meditation center for some time(since 2007ish… it may or may not have had something to do with my reading of Eat, Pray, Love around that time… who can really say?!?). The downtown YMCA offered one lone class per week, but it was at an inconvenient time and really didn’t offer the level of instruction that I was looking for. So, for some time now, I’ve been relegated to gleaning what I could from books with titles like«Meditation for Busy People» and«Journey to the Heart». So, as you can imagine, after months of sitting criss-cross-apple-sauce in my own living room trying to guide myself to enlightenment, when I saw Meditative Mind go in near my hood, I was relieved(because, people, I need professional help painting my own fingernails – I have no business attempting enlightenment on my own). I have had occasion to observe their«Mindfulness for Children» class several times now. I cannot possibly overstate how wonderful this class is. The instructor, Andrew, is amazing. He has a way of interacting with the kids that is natural, accessible, and completely puts them at ease. His class is always interesting and engaging. He teaches mindfulness through a series of games and activities. This is not a class that is remotely boring. All the games and activities reinforce the lesson that thoughts are powerful(Ie: being negative only begets more negativity). He gives the kids practical meditative techniques to help with childhood anxiety and stress. He teaches all ages from age 5 through the teenage years(the classes are separated into appropriate age groupings). They offer several convenient payment options(punch cards, buy 3 get 1 free classes, and unlimited passes). The drop in rate is $ 10/hour. First class is always free, so it doesn’t cost a thing to give it a try. Get to it!
