MickeyRay’s is definitely a legitimate BBQ place in the area that does it right. The have a massive smoker that you have to use if you want to call your establishment real BBQ. One thing that has always stood out about this place is the cleanliness. Every time I’ve been it very clean. The atmosphere is also real nice. The food is good, but not the best BBQ I’ve had. Still worth going for a meal with some friend or family. I like to start off with the hush puppies and the fried pickles are good too. The meats are all good and my wife loves the loaded baked potato. They have their own kind of BBQ sauces to choose from, but they all taste pretty similar. This is probably one thing I don’t like about MickeyRay’s. All the the sauces are too sweet for my taste. I wish they had a few more to choose from. Happy eating

Nice place great food but don’t get too relaxed, I saw them throw somebody out of the bar tonight, got the impression they don’t want you to hang out having drinks even though they decorate with empty whiskey bottles, they want you to order, eat and move on. If your used to a microbrewery atmosphere or just a bar this ain’t that, this is a restaurant with management hovering a good thing most of the time but too much of that can make a place a little uptight. If you push back wanting to sit down and have couple of drinks before ordering, they notice and soon the manager will stop by to access the situation see why you haven’t ordered or how your managing your drinking, so go if your hungry, don’t go to have drinks it’s just not that kind of place.

I got the chance – actually, that sounds wrong, as the opportunity implication, akin to receiving something pleasurable, such as a gift, lends itself more towards a positive, so not really«got the chance», more like I wound up there again. I probably could have deleted all of this and just said that I suppose, but why use one word when 50(or more) will suffice… Anyway, more menu items and let’s just put this where it is. The last review still applies. The bacon/jalapeño things are excellent and everything else is very second-rate in comparison. If you know what Santitas chips are, you know they’re like a buck or two for an entire bag. I had a small amount of those sprinkled on the plate for the pulled pork nachos. Covering that was some BBQ beans that had such a distinctive amount of over-sweetener that it strikes me a lot like it was fresh from a Bush’s can. There was also enough of it to soak the chips completely. Thanks? Covering that goop was some pulled pork, which was ok(but this might just have been compared to the other stuff that was present), some pickled jalapenos and a glop of sour cream on top that looked like it was dispensed with an ice cream scoop. I think there may have been some random melted cheese in there also. Then two was the Andouille sandwich, which featured a plain bun and a pile of sliced links and nothing else. The sausage itself missed the flavor entirely, but definitely had a nice degree of spice to it, which speaks to the food knowledge of this place, as in them not quite getting how a particular food is supposed to be. Then again, I guess that mound of junk that they were calling pulled pork nachos would also be ample demonstration of that. Again, lots of attitude-y«spice» from the wait staff, though the sass this time was a bit overboard. I feel for the waitresses having to do this put-on, which frankly only works if your kitchen is backing you up. If they are creating errors for you to try to smooth over, the attitude act is beyond worthless. This place is very clearly slinging up no more than average BBQ at best and straying from that is a colossal mistake. Still, their jalapeño bacon poppers are executed skillfully and are a fantastic appetizer, so it’s keeping their 3 star rating afloat. There’s not much reason overall to go here, though.

First time ever eating here, and i have to say not to shabby. Seanette was our server and she did an awsome job. I had the brisket sandwich was great. My other had the grilled club and we were both very satisfied with it. The only thing i could compain about was the cole slaw was a little dry. Bang up job guys thanks for an awsome first time dining here.

Service was good but food was mediocre at best. Ended up returning a side of macaroni that obviously languished beneath a heat lamp for the better part of the day. The mashed potatoes that replaced it were sadly instant mashed potatoes. This was weird since they obviously had potatoes back there to make fresh steak fries but not mashed potatoes…

I recently ate MickeyRays and I have to say that I am very impressed with the ambience of the restaurant. It was my first time eating here. I ordered the for the first time ever, «deep fried dill pickles» and they were DELICIOUS! As my main lunch was the burnt ends sandwich and it to was tender, moist and very GOOD! My only concern was the limited serving staff they had for the lunch hour. I ate here on 12 – 17 and they only had 2 working servers. Don’t get me wrong, they worked very hard to make our stay and meal service pleasant but it was apparent they needed more help. It I could give this place a 4.5 star I would have. I highly recommend this BBQ restaurant.

We attended a special event at Mickey Ray’s recently. And I must say that the service was terrible. The food… marginal at best. We waited over an hour for our grilled chicken and pork salads. They were nothing special or even very appetizing. It seems they ran up to Winco, grabbed a .99 bag of pre-made iceberg salad, threw a handful on a plate, meat on top and v-i-o-l-a! MickeyRay’s Salad! The Roquefort dressing was runny and unflavorful. First and last time at MickeyRays. If you can’t do a decent salad… what can you do? Our sumthin’-sumthin’ was nuthin’-nuthin’.

Mickey Ray and Parker are the best. I I always eat the 6 Dollar Cheeseburger when I go there. Can’t tell you how nice it was to have first class service with the best damn Burger I have ever had. The waiter Justin was awesome too! I wish they had mot moved out of Eagle, Id. I went there for lunch sometimes thee times a week! I will have to go visit one of the other locations and see if the food is as good as the Eagle Store.

Some of the best service I’ve ever had. Some awesome, down-to-earth people work there! I recommend going there for anyone who likes a good bbq and to feel taken care of.

Great place to watch the BSU football game. Best jalapeño poppers in town and we have tried them so many places. Mickey Rays poppers are covered with crispy bacon and filled with cheese. Super awesome and handmade.

Awesome atmosphere. Best deep fried pickles ever! The sweet tea just kept flowing! The bbq was messy but tasty(the way it should be). The food had a southern charm with a touch of creative genius. We were beyond stuffed not halfway through our meals, and even though the homemade marionberry pie was calling to us from the fridge, we left with our stomachs full and most of our meal still in doggy bags. What drew us here? My husband heard a radio commercial for this place and the catch line was, «Makin’ heavy girls happy since 2010.» Is that true? The only catch phrase I saw there was«Come git y’all a little sumthin, sumthin’» — Did this environment evoke my hidden southern accent to come out. Maybe a little. But it was worth it. The food took me back to the south! Recommended!

BSU game day and they run out of nachos. What!!! The place is empty too. Our waitress seems a little frazzled by the group of 12. We are, literally, the only table in the bar. There’s not one person sitting at the bar either. Couldn’t get the television to the right channel to see kickoff. I won’t be back.

I keep trying to find good authentic BBQ in the Boise Area. My wife and I tried MickeyRays and the pulled pork sandwich was dry like dust. We had hushpuppies with zero flavor, and the Fried Okra was bland and Dry. The Space was nice and clean, but empty. I will not return. The Quest continues.

Best BBQ Ive had since Missoura. If u dont like it, then your one of the 5% of the 100% that is not satisfied. This is normal for all businesses of all sorts. Mickey is on top if his staff, and u can see they know its important to be ontop of things. If ur service is bad or the food is bad, its due to bad employees not Mickey’s itself. Its hard enough to find good people to work for you when your running a business. Id say hes got that squared away, and the staff ive encountered are very helpful in every way. So if its only a few people in there or a full house, the food is amazing. The brownies, beef brisket burger and mac are my favs. Both sites have an amazing atmosphere and its always been nothing but pleasant there. So check ur ego at the door, ur in Mickeys house. Thats just southern hospitality.

Service was very good, courteous and prompt. Place was nearly empty. Only 3 tables, being used including ours. Brisket was very tender, but all fat as were the burnt ends. Spicy sausage was not spicy, extremely over cooked and odd consistency. Barbecue sauce was very watered down and devoid of taste. Do not waste your time and money Food did not seem to be fresh. Possibly steam reheated.

This place has the best bar b que especially the beef brisket. I don’t know why they have such poor reviews. I find there food to be so much better than other Bar B Q places in Boise. We have eaten here 4 times since June and everything we ordered was delicious. I did not care for the coleslaw and said something to the waitress. The last time we were there, she said they had changed the coleslaw recipe! I’m glad because the coleslaw did not taste bad, the cabbage was just in very small pieces. I like to mix my coleslaw and bar b q. The sheds are better than the ground cabbage. We will go back since there brisket is the best we have had in Boise(we are from Texas and the brisket is so good there). Another very tasty item is the smoked sausage. They also cut it in this interesting way and it is a pretty presentation. I’ve never had smoked sausage that is as flavorful as Mickey Rays.
