My friend and I stopped in Boise for the night on a cross country roadtrip and stumbled upon this spot a short walk from our Airbnb. It is a must if you’re looking for a chill, pet-friendly bar with an outdoor space. I love saisons and had THEBEST saison of my life here, recommended by the wonderful bartender, Riley(whose dog, Charles, is the most wonderful) — the Payette imperial Pilsner. Prefunk doesn’t have a food menu but there was a lovely food truck right outside the patio area. My friend and I split the fish tacos and the mini grilled cheese made three ways. Everything was INSANELY good. The menu is short but for good reason — they really know what they’re doing with their menu.

Came here for a couple brews prior to a Steelheads game. The beer selection was huge – almost overwhelmingly so. Fortunately, there was a bit of a line so I was able to check out the menu while I waited to approach the register. The beer itself was good, not hugely expensive, and the indoor/outdoor seating combo was nice. It was one of the first decent days this year, so it was really nice to have a beer on their patio in the sunlight. The downside of this place is that if you want to sample a couple beers before making your choice, you are liable to irritate the people waiting in line behind you. This would be a great place to go if you already know what you’re looking for, but that kinda defeats the purpose of having such a huge beer list. That being said, I was able to sample one of the beers I was considering and decide that it wasn’t what I wanted. I would have tried one more sample, but didn’t want to draw the ire of the folks behind me. This place is good if you want a couple beers in a really casual environment. They do not offer food, but there is typically a food truck right outside or just around the corner. It’s worth stopping by if you have a few minutes to burn, even if only to realize your knowledge of beers is not as great as you previously thought.

If you need a comprehensive beer menu, knowledgable bar tenders, and a laid back atmosphere, look no further. The folks at PreFunk know their craft, and will take the time to discuss their offerings, and serve you something you’ll love. Indoor and outdoor seating, with a packed patio the moment the temp rises above 55 °F. Food trucks arrive in the evening to keep your drunk munchies handled. Great place to sit and imbibe if you want sun, with its westerly facing location and no buildings(yet) to block the very last rays. I hear rumour the patio is being improved for summer. Be aware-this is a beer bar. There are some great ciders on offer, but if you’re after wine or liquor, head elsewhere.

Great beer and wonderful people work there and go there for a drink. The only thing is it is way better in the warmer weather, and for the Treefort Music Festival it is the place to be!

If PreFunk were an animal, it would be a liger. If it were music, it’d be the raddest mix you’ve ever compiled. If it were a person, he’d be the coolest guy in the room. You know the one. The guy in devil-may-care denim, a well worn tee, and a half smile that hints of mischief and seems to say – hey…I have never… even once in my entire life… been flustered, perturbed, or really anything other than just completely and totally– Cool. If my life were an episode of Friends, I would want this place to be my Central Perk. Only instead of oversized coffee cups and a server with 90’s hair layered in a girl-next-door shag, it’s bearded gents and ice cold beer. So very much beer. 25 glorious rotating beers on tap. The beers they carry are always thoughtfully chosen and offer a great variety of styles. They have beer that will challenge your notion of the *sort* of beer person you are. Ie: I was at a nearby brewery sharing a tasting flight, when I said this: I think I just don’t like beers with odd flavorings. I thought I did. But, coconut porter? No. Chocolate milk stout? Absolutely not. The only exception is espresso stouts. Other than that? Nope. I then walked directly into PreFunk, tasted a friend’s Mother Earth Brew Co Sin-Tax(peanut butter stout) and immediately ordered it. It’s now my favorite beer of all time. I have also since enjoyed a Crème Brulee imperial stout that has so heady and pungent a Crème Brulee flavor it makes my previous comment laughable. Hey…I’m still exploring this hoppy little world… The atmosphere is clean and completely casual. The service is helpful and friendly. They’ve always allowed me to taste a beer prior to ordering a pint, which is awesome. There’s a patio to enjoy on mild days. It’s on Front Street, so the patio could get a little bit loud but sometimes we get a little noisy in Boise(which is to say… I don’t really mind so much). They bring varying food trucks in pretty regularly for lunch so you can enjoy some eats with your beer. Overall? I deeply dig it, my people. Deeply. Get to it!

I really liked this place! There are several large garage doors that can be opened, some bar seating, and a few tables. The beertender was very helpful and gave great suggestions for what beer to try. There were over 30 beers to choose from! After not knowing exactly which beer I should choose, the tender suggested I try a few prior to choosing. After I chose the very delicious vanilla cider he added that if I wasn’t happy with my choice he would gladly get another one for me. I loved the cider and I think I could drink it by the growler! :) I would love to come back on a summer day when the patio is full, and the music is pumping! The space is small with minimal seating so I think that is what makes it feel extra Funk-ay! My only reason I give this place a 4-star is the bathrooms are a bit dirty.

This place is great, simply great They have a giant seleciton of beer, they have great prices, and they cycle through lots of beers that are always delicious. If you like Pale Ales: they have those If you like IPAs: they have those If you like Black ales: they have those If you like Lagers: they have those If you like Ciders: they have those If you like sour beers: they have those If you like Hefes: they have those And Every one is GREAT! They have have an awesome variety, and the staff is always exceptional and wonderful to help out and let you try all of the beers to your heart’s content. I have often found new beers here that I haven’t seen on tap anywhere else, which leaves me craving more, and then have to go on adventures just to find them. Good examples of these are the beers ‘Birthday Suit’, ‘La Folie’, and a beer aged in wild turkey whiskey barrels. If you go there and Brock is working, he will take care of you ten-fold. Super nice guy that We have often talked to for a substantial amount of time. He knows beers, and knows them well, as well as knows how to describe them. another awesome thing: they fill growlers for cheap and they even can in house!!! the growlers are extra cheap between 4 – 6 pm, or on Sundays! if you like beer, go here! The only thing holding it back is when its sunny out, sitting out on the asphalt cooks you far faster than is reasonably bearable. If they could just put down some good turf or rugs, it would help a lot! otherwise, it is amazing! Go here, try beer, find something new, you will be glad that you do! Cheers!

PreFunk is great for growler fills. They have a wide array of local beer and cider. I stopped in during the day on a Monday, so there were only a few people there. The bartender was quick to acknowledge me and check on me. It has a huge garage door that was opened to let the fresh air in. This would be a great place to get a beer with friends and enjoy the nice Boise weather.

Misleading prices they say you can have a 32oz can filled for $ 5 but neglect to tell you they charge another $ 5 for a non reusable can. And they also said we couldn’t come in with our baby even just to get a growler filled. And they were rude if I could give them a lower score I would.

I would give these guys 5 stars if they were not on a busy street. I liked the vibe here! This place was fun, low key, had good beers and fun friendly people. They had a miniature golf station made up of tires and junk out front. Come to find our there was a New Belgium beer tour happening at a few local places that folks were touring and playing rounds of mini-golf! My husband mention how fun that would have been to do but then as the swarm of 21 year olds came in to play their drunken round of mini-golf with their homemade putters ranging from hammers to bottle openers strapped to a stick, and little tykes plastic baseball bats, we realized we were out of our league. Made for good people watching anyway.

Without a doubt my favorite place in Boise to have a beer or two. Great beer, neat people. … And then that food truck pulls up and the planets align … I’ll be honest – it’s where magic comes from.

Wanna chill out and drink fantastic beer while watching cars pass by without feeling like the neighborhood drunk? This is your place! Abundant local micros and a great people/car watching venue add up to chillaxing out max without the judgment of the neighbors!

Great variety of beers on tap. They give each person two samples to try. Beers/prices are clearly displayed on a television screen, including price per size. The offer pints, rounds(you can buy the container for $ 5), and growlers(purchase the container for $ 7). Prices seemed reasonable with pints ranging from $ 4 – 6 I would say. Everything I tried was really really good. This is seriously the best place if you want to ‘prefunk’ or ‘pregame’ at is probably known as. Grab your growler, fill it up with amazing quality alcohol, drink up and then go DT. You’ll save a lot and get a buzz on something that tastes a lot better than you’d get at other bars. I’m definitely a fan! Only downside is the place is kind of small and really close to the freeway exit. Can be kind of difficult to find parking or comfortable seating, but you take the good with the bad I guess!
