If this is island cuisine, then wait until I hit the Aloha state in a couple of months, but shoot me before I have a chance to eat anything. I should have known that a chain operation claiming to serve Hawaiian food but that doesn’t have any outlets there may be suspect. I ordered a Jamaican jerk chicken bowl. I don’t know about the Hawaiian version, but jerk from Jamaica is blistering hot. This one had about as much heat as a teriyaki. In other words, none. The meal wasn’t bad. It just wasn’t anything special. The chicken had little flavor and the sauce was very sweet. Not what I expected. The rice and vegetables were fine. Sorry, but I can’t award Rumbi Island Grill an ono.

We ate here a month ago. Had the grilled shrimp and chicken bowl. The cook was a young guy in is 20’s. Delicious, grilled taste and grill marks on the meat with a very zesty sauce. We came back again this month and ordered two of the same bowls. What a disappointment. Under cooked chicken with no flavor and bland white in color. Sauce was not zesty and the chicken was left in large pieces instead of bite-size like before. It was mostly rice. I asked my wife if the cook was the same as last time because she had a better view of the kitchen. There was a female cook in the kitchen, not the guy from before. Looked like she just got the job. So disappointed in the food. If we go back, we will have to peek in the kitchen to make sure she isn’t there.

Rumbi is close to my work, and I love Hawaiian food, so I finally decided to stop in and try it out. The service was fast and friendly. I went with a teriyaki rice bowl with the Rumbi rice and a side of Hawaiian mac salad. The mac salad was disappointment, the flavor was underlying, but really weak and hard to find over the large noodles. The Rumbi rice(cooked in coconut milk) was good in theory, but I really was not a fan. It was overpowering and drowned out the teriyaki flavor, which was also lacking. Rather than cooking the chicken in teriyaki sauce, they just drizzle it over the meat after plating it. It just doesn’t provide the same flavor. The veggies were really good, though. I might go back to try a burger, if someone invited me, but not sure I’ll go own my own again. Ehh.

I’m from Tacoma Wa, and I was recommended to try this wonderful island style place. My family are of Samoan and Hawaiian decent so our kids love chicken and rice. This place was EXCELLENT and I would recommend it to my Ohana, Aiga, and all families.

This my third time visiting here and I can’t believe I haven’t written a review! I really like this place. I mean I REALLY like this place! I’ve been to Hawaii ½ dozen times and this food is very reminiscent of my experiences there. The Rumbi rice is amazing. Cooked in coconut and garnished with red beans, it hits the spot! The pulled pork– great. The fish tacos– amazing. But the rice bowls are incredible. Fresh, healthy veggies, choice of base and choice of meat. Easily shared!

Probably my bad for ordering a burger at this spot. I had high expectations for this place, from what friends and co-workers have talked about. Nothing too impressive the bun seemed like it was twice the size of the patties. I give it a two star until I go again and try something. Not on my radar to return anytime soon tho.

Went for lunch for a change yesterday since that’s where the traffic patterns directed us from the office… Overall a really good lunch spot… chicken rice bowl with brown rice and spicy teriyaki sauce was really good. Veggies seemed fresh and not overcooked to death. The space was pretty open and bright… think that space has been a lot of things but never a restaurant before. They’re not setting the culinary world on fire for sure but I imagine it will become part of the standard lunch rotation…

Where to start… Had one of their pork rice bowls. The coconut rice was delicious!! The word delicious doesn’t do it justice. We also got their pineapple upside down cake and that was so good! Great atmosphere and the service was great. We will definitely come back.

Friendly. Efficient. Thorough. Party Paks are a great value! I would do this again for a group of 1215-year-old girl soccer stars! We were the envy of the other teams who couldn’t come up with anything better than Olive Garden. Thank you! Dinner was a big hit!
