This is a fantastic public high school that I could not recommend more highly. The students are intelligent and creative, offering innovative and personalized teaching to students of all learning styles. The facilities are very nice and recently renovated, with a very modern feeling. It is well-maintained both inside and on the grounds and there is plenty of open space. Open campus means that students are given responsible freedom to eat out and go home if they need to at lunchtime, generating a certain level of autonomy and time-management early on. There is a mutual trust between the faculty and the students. The student population tends to be very open and welcoming, coming mostly from the middle to upper-middle class neighborhoods nearby, with some students making the trek in from Idaho City or select other neighborhoods here and there. The pettiness and peer pressure still exists like at any high school, but from what I hear of other friends of mine, it is nothing compared with what it could be. While the population of Timberline tends to be fairly homogenous, it’s very friendly and has a very neighborly, pleasant demeanor. The sports were hit or miss while I was there, but the academics are consistently strong. With a healthy rivalry between Timberline and Boise High School, there is a great spirit of friendly competitiveness. I highly recommend Timberline High School if you are considering schools in Boise for yourself or your kids.
