Needing somewhere to sleep, I exhausted turned into the River Front Motel. It looked a little rough outside, but I give a lot of leeway to mom and pop places. Sadly, my first impression was the most accurate. The nonfunctional air conditioning was surrounded by duct tape in the broken window. The only lamp featured a cracked shade, which threw light over the dirty carpet. I was treated to chinese takeout leftovers from a previous resident, tucked in the table by the bed, where they had evidently been for some time. The deadbolt didn’t work at all, and the doorknob itself was finicky. I slid the chain across, only to have the chain come off in my hand. Still, the exhaustion took over, and I collapsed on the sheets(which may or may not have been washed). I awoke fifteen minutes later to what felt like a pinprick on my arm. Now, traveling alone may be lonely, but the second I turned on the lamp, I saw I had company. Six bedbugs crawled around the sheets where I had just slept. At this point, I gave up walked back to my car, and went to sleep there. Around 2:30, I awoke to loud arguments in the parking lot between a man and woman. They seemed to be having a disagreement regarding a… Business arrangement. To say that I would not repeat the experience is an understatement.
