We were in California City for a couple days visiting family. I always like to find something«new» to do on each trip. We checked out the museum after seeing the positive Unilocal reviews. It is an eclectic mix of aviation, aerospace artifacts and local history. The volunteer working 04÷03÷15 was great. He even took us out back to show us some items that would soon be added to the display. It was very interesting and very much worth the stop. Its a great little treasure in a very little town. Get off Hwy 58, grab a bite to eat across the street and go look at some cool stuff.

Even though there hasn’t been a review for over two years, this place is still open and going strong. Instead of focusing on all of flight, this one touches on the basics and then focus on the aerospace portion since Edwards AFB is just down the road. They have a vast collection going back to before it was Edwards. A great place for space buffs!

What a surprise! There on the edge of the Mojave desert in the town of Boron is this tiny museum and inside of it is a rocket lovers dream. Huge ICBM missile engines, smaller rocket engines from many mysterious programs I have never heard about, an aluminum rocket engine like I have never seen as well as the latest technology composite rocket engines. I learned so much there. The place must be classified! There are models, flight suits and helmets as well as parts of the shuttle and Apollo rockets, an F-4 Phantom you can go up to and touch, an engine from the lagendary X-15 rocket plane as well as an engine used in the famous X-1 which Chuck Yeager first broke the sound barrier with. A supersonic parachute for Atom bomb deployment and missile parts. You can’t believe some little town has all this hidden in the desert. It is within 100 miles of Los Angeles. if you are in Southern California and love aerospace history and hardware get over to this museum! There are also great small town restaurants within walking distance of the museum that are dirt cheap with great food.

The museum in Boron is a small collection of artifacts concerning the Edwards Air Force Base(formerly Modoc) and events and people there. It is Free. It is a quick stop, It has some unique and interesting tidbits of information, if you are into aerospace history. It is funded only by donations, so with a location like Boron, it is very underfunded. The volunteers inside can also give you lots of local history, and rip your ears off with local politics. For me, I will check in every couple of years to see what new has happened. It is a good stretch of the legs between Las Vegas and all points west!
