Consignor Beware! Find another place to bring your gently used/​new items. I had the Worst experience here from the start when they messed up my intake appointment. They give you 40% and continuously run 20% off sales which ONLY benefits the Buyer! Then… Good Luck getting paid! I had to call
3 times to get my measly check because each time they said it was in the mail. HORRIBLE experience I wished I had given my tags still on Burberry items and Very gently used Gucci and Louis Vuitton items to charity or to my friends. Not worth the aggravation for such few dollars!

Been a 2TA consignor and shopper for many years. Never a bad experience and I have shopped at more than 5 of their locations.
Charles St is my absolute favorite spot. In my opinion each location kind of caters to the neighborhood clientele — so you’ll find lots of inventory from Kate Spade, McLaughlin, Lily, Calypso, Tory Burch, Madewell, and Anthropologie. Lots of higher end brands too. Love browsing the Chanel and St. John inventory too.
Customer service is always very good here too. in fact they are sending me a check this month and even called to verify my new address.
I highly rec the Newbury Street locations too as they have mens clothes too.

Funny pit stop this shopping when it is for me to do. In the very last week I was here to have some love collection. I had from here a nice leather bag that was absolutely at a discount rate. My few times visits here never provided me with overpriced anything just greater!

BEWARE!
I have dropped off a bag full of designer clothing, filled out my agreement and made it very clear that my clothes were NOT a donation. Well, 6 days later when I went to pick up the remainder of my clothes they did not take for consignment, it went missing.
The staff was very disorganized and impolite, unprofessional. The next day I receive a call from Maura the store manager simply telling me the items were donated to good will cause I did not pick them up 3 days after my drop off.
I was never told I had 3 days to pick up and it was Memorial Day weekend, people are out of town and places are closed, they could have told me these important details. There is nothing they can do about it.
This place is a scam, read these reviews I wish I had earlier, it sounds like this same incident is happening to almost everyone here on Unilocal.Shame on you STA.

This place SUCKS. I consigned for the first time and dropped off a handful of high end designer brands. Worst experience of my life. Here’s why:
1.) Picked up my items ONE day after the 90^th day and the most expensive item I consigned was «donated.» Weird that no other items were donated, right? Just the sequined dress worth $ 500 right before NYE? Cool. Why don’t you just gift yourself my Chloe bag too, jerks.
2.) Sold a total of three items: IRO dress $ 385, Theory pants $ 265 and Pura Vida dress $ 30. SOMEHOW only received $ 70 for these three items? Complete BS. Even with a 50% off sale, there is no way a ⁴⁰⁄₆₀ split would land me at $ 70 bucks for those three items. Sorry — it’s straight up arithmetic. Let me paint this obnoxious picture: let’s say somehow all three items were bought during a 50% sale, and said people used 10% birthday coupons. I get a 40% split — STILL should have gotten ~$ 122. Odds of that all happening at once? Not so fat chance.
3.) Employee didn’t set up my account properly — never got to track my items or anything at all. Contacted STA, replied but never fixed it. Emailed again — another apology, again nothing.
Conclusion:
A.) The employees steal your expensive clothes and apologize for it being «donated» (even though goodwill comes ONCE a month at the END of the month).
B.) They also steal your money. Where the heck is the rest of my money?
Don’t know how such an institution could hire such dishonest and greasy people who go about their business stealing from clients who keep their business alive. Never ever EVER consign here. Although apparently they must have darn good sales if consigners get jipped that freaking hard. Utterly disappointed. Will not be returning if someone paid me. Better luck selling my things on the curb.

Easily the best STA location in Boston. A small space but they really make great use of it. Always organized, have never seen things laying around or on the floor. Pleasant atmosphere, great selection!
I have co-​signed here and so far it has been a breeze working with them.

I am a long time customer/​consignor at Second Time Around, and have always been on good terms with the company. Anybody can succeed in making a little extra pocket cash or getting new-​used clothes by using the credit they accrue selling their old clothes. I have found that by simply following their straight forward policies I leave happy every time.
Here are some tips:
If you want to consign– call them and ask them about their limitations and guidelines. Simple enough, right?
If you want to buy– try everything on and inspect everything The first thing I always see when I walk in is a green sign that says they do not accept returns or exchanges. Yet every time I am there, I witness an irate customer attempting to return something because they didn’t notice it had a small stain or it didn’t fit. A) The only way to know if something fits well is to try it on. and B) if you didn’t see the stain before you bought it, chances are the employees didn’t see the stain either.
Simple enough, right?
I would recommend Second Time Around to anybody who just wants to get rid of some old clothes that they don’t intend on wearing again, and who would rather fight for something worthwhile rather than the young girls who work there trying to enforce company-​wide policies which they don’t set.

I would like to thank the manager, Marah, for her excellent customer service after a snafu experienced at the store on the weekend. I found an awesome skirt that I went to pay for and then realized I had funds in my consignment account to use towards the purchase. The charge went through as I was talking with the cashier and the staff in the store were unable to resolve reversing the charge. I called Marah the next day and she was incredibly helpful and courteous in helping resolve the charges over the phone. Marah even informed me because I was using my consignment funds that I would receive an extra 10% off the item. Thank you again Marah for helping me!
My recommendation is to shop here if you are looking for great clothes to wear to work and items that are in great condition :)

Got a gorgeous dress for the holidays and a missoni scarf for under 80 bucks! i have also consigned here before as well!

I tend to avoid Black Friday sales, but when walking to brunch this Black Friday with a friend, we noticed that STA had a 50% sale until 10 am. We looked at our phone to see that it was 930am, score.
This store is small, but it’s also really organized and had a wide variety of types and levels of clothing. Both my friend and I left with 3 staple pieces that we were pretty excited about. I do think that part of the excitement was the fact that everything was 50% off because we got a pretty good deal, but if you scout around a little and pay attention to the colored tags, it looks like you can get a pretty good deal any day.
The employees were nice and handled the crowds well.

Do not leave clothes for sale. Pay attention to what unhappy sellers say. All true! Many reasons for why you will not get your money. Lost, stolen, outdated, donated and if you do get ever get your money it will be considerably less than you are owed. They make no effort to accommodate seller. You might as well donate the stuff, that is essentially all you are doing here. So frustrating.

DO NOT SHOP OR CONSIGN! Dropped off a bag of mixed clothes and the 3 best items which i knew were definites «werent wanted». Come on. So obvious they are dishonest and stealing. I have consigned there for years and every item has sold. Tried to speak to the manager who would not get on the phone. I was reminded of the contract for which I understand. What it doesnt state is that it takes advantage of people who drop off. All i can do now is file complaints to better business bureau, spread the word to my many friends in boston and never consign or shop there again.

Don’t leave any clothing here if you know you may want to keep it later if not purchased. I left items on 2 occasions and when I went to pick it up the first time they could not find my Chanel top. I understood that maybe it was theft so I Iet it go. After going back to pick up my second batch they could not find my Levis from Barneys. I asked whether they had a theft problem because I never had this happen in a consignment shop. I don’t think they really cared! They quoted on the agreement that they were not responsible for loss by theft or any other cause. Are you serious!!! Bad business practices and I will try and spread the word to everyone in the Beacon Hill and the Boston area and I will also will file a complaint with the BBB.

Inside was cute and clothes were really organized, but not many clothes.
Go to the one on newbury if you wanna actually buy some cheap useful clothes.

This is from the point of view of a consigner. If you have items for which you do not care and/​or are from mass mall stores, then consign here. If you have a few select items from high end designers, stay away from here. Similar to the experience of other reviewers, I too left a couple of expensive (retail of $ 250-​$ 500) items here. When one did not sell, I went to pick it up. The item was not there and I was told that «the owner sometimes sells an item and does not register it so we will wait and ask her». They said that they will «call me». It’s been a month and the item is still yet to be found. Ladies, post your pricey items on eBay, give them away to someone that will appreciate it, or take them to the lovely lady who runs a high end consigning shop at the back of the 333 Washington Street jewelry building (near the old Borders store, sorry the name of the shop skips me). The lady there is picky, but if she takes your items, she will give you one-​on-​one full attention. She is more interested in building a LONG TERM relationship with you than in earning a quick buck. If I could give STA zero stars, I would. Stay away.

I’m writing from a consignor’s point of view. I used to love to consign my better items here. Last time I went to pick up a few items that hadn’t been sold — they were missing. Gone. Zip. Nada. Now not only was I out of the money I should have made on these clothes, (one had a price tag on it — brand new) but I also did not get my clothes back. The women who worked there didn’t seem to care at all. Very disappointing.

I should probably start by saying that I really like this location — they tend to have a lot of clothes that I like, a nice mix of stuff, and the hours are pretty good. But you don’t want to hear about how convenient this is. You want to know if you’re going to get screwed consigning or shopping here.
I hate to say this, but I think you are.
First, shopping. For the most part, the clothes are in good condition. Great stuff, really. I live down the street, so I stop by here often and go stalker on the items I want. Like the DVF dress that showed up on the new arrivals rack around December 1. Oh how I loved that dress. It’s $ 99! Great deal. But I wasn’t totally sold on how it fit me and whether it goes with my shoes. So I decided I’d hold off, wait it out, and if it went down to supersale, I’d pick it up. About a week before Christmas, it dropped to the first sale level, and stayed there through the holiday. But I promised myself I’d wait it out. I go in there today, and it’s back to full price! It’s over a month later! I thought the whole point was that the price goes down the longer it’s there! Other things that were marked down have been further reduced, but not the damn green tag. Ugh.
Then, consigning. I have a whole bunch of formal and semi-​formal dresses that no longer fit me. Some are former bridesmaid gowns, others I outgrew, others I overwore, a few I never wore! I wanted them out of my teeny Beacon Hill closet, so I brought them to STA. The girl tells me she would take them, but in a week or two, the big summer sale would start and they would go on mad discount. I didn’t want to just give them away, so she made an appointment for me for a month later. I had something come up, so I sent the boy to drop off a bag with the dresses, some work clothes that don’t fit, and a few North Face items that I no longer need. They rejected everything. I can understand the work clothes (they don’t seem to sell a lot of suits) and the North Face stuff (too outdoorsy/​collegey for this crowd), but you told me 4 weeks ago that you would take all the dresses! I had like, 7! The line they gave the boy was that they were «too summery.» Floor length gowns? No. They were not too summery. You were just screwing me. Now I’m stuck with a bunch of dresses in my closet which I probably would have just brought to another consignment shop in the first place, but now it’s sort of inconvenient to do that.
Forget it. I’ll donate them all to a Princess & the Prom charity thing or something. STA doesn’t deserve the money.

I shop and consign a lot at consignment stores. All I’m going to say about this place is, «consigner beware.»
I dropped my stuff off today for consignment. I am a LONG TIME consigner at STA, but after my experience today, I will NEVER do it again. Let me explain why:
After the sales girl with the oh-​so-​charming attitude went through my stuff she gave me the option to «take what they didn’t consign» i.e. a couple of bags. Now, normally I would leave my bags, as in the past, they are donated to the Goodwill.
Um – not so fast my friends.
The girl proceeded to tell me, «once you leave them, they become property of the company» and explained that «they may go to goodwill, they may not.» She even said that sometimes what you leave behind, doesn’t go to charity and in fact goes to other stores sold at «thrift prices,» she says.
So what this means, my friends, is that when you’ve left things behind after being told it wasn’t consigned, they turn around and STILL SELL it. Making a 100% profit and you get nothing. I can’t imagine how many people leave bags behind thinking it will all get donated to charity. I frankly was FLOORED by this business practice. If I’m going to give my clothes away to be sold at THRIFT prices, they should go to the Goodwill or a charity who will receive the proft — not the pockets of Second Time Around.
Very, very dissapointing.
And I was even more shocked that the sales girl actually *said* this to me.
So later today I’ll drop the bags off to Goodwill myself and make sure that THEY get the sale of the «thrift prices» and I know 100% where my clothes are going.

This store is complete hit or miss. I found a Nanette Lepore black lace shirt with a nude interior for $ 48.00. Not sure if someone just sewed the label on and sold it for that price. But, it fit. And, I bought it. I’d say shop here with an open mind. And, that PRADA purse that was a steal at 100 dollars, is most likely a steal. As in, bought for $ 25.00 in a back alley in Brooklyn. But, it looks real, riiight?

Sometimes it’s a little pricey for consignment, but most of the time I’m ok with it.
What I really like is
1. It’s not quite as cramped and crowded as most.
2. They have my size ALOT which is awesome.
3. The staff is friendly, that’s pretty much at all locations, everyone is very friendly.
4. Nice music.
5. In Beacon Hill.
What I don’t like is the color organization scheme. I don’t like to shop by color in stores that only have one of each item. I like to shop by size in that case. I hate seeing the things that I like but can’t wear.
