Algonquin Club of Boston

The Algonquin Club is a rare blend of sophistication and luxury that echos the wealth of ages past. Grand stairs and elegantly designed rooms, the Algonquin club will leave a lasting impression on you.
The meal itself was excellent. The goat cheese salad had tart apples that paired well with the goat cheese and the clam chowder was rich and creamy. I had the filet of steak for dinner and it was in one word: amazing. Dessert came shortly after which was the NY cheesecake, which was alright.
Overall, I enjoyed my experience here at the Algonquin Club. It was enhanced by the fact that I was a guest at an event so I did not spend any money here. But, I enjoyed the ambiance and the meal.

A great venue for a a old school feel type of event. I came here for a special dinner with school and I was pretty impressed by the quality of the event. Classy yet almost pretentious atmosphere
Service: Great, everything I asked for came the way I wanted and the staff were very accommodating.
Food: The cheese board during cocktail hour was ok. A bunch of cheeses and berries on the side. Nothing really spectacular.
The salad was good– pear and baby greens lightly tossed in a slightly tart dressing
The clam chowder– excellent. Balanced with just the right amount of clams, cream, and potatoes. The espresso glass that it was served in was perfect. Any more and I would have been overwhelmed by such a creamy soup.
The fillet was cooked perfectly– perhaps they used sous vide? The meat had nice grill marks and was cooked med-​rare evenly through the whole piece of meat. So tender and delicious, I would come back here for this piece of meat
Dessert: cheesecake– nothing really great about it. A bit over baked and dry.

Good food and old style atmosphere. Great place for functions. I’m sure in it’s time this place was very popular and fun for the wealthy in Backbay.

It’s a beautiful building, with everything you dream about Boston and its red stone, wooden furnitures, etc. However besides from the beautiful architecture, I was personally disappointed to have had an experience less than 5 stars at an elite club like this.
I had a special dinner here this past weekend, and was very excited. I’m obviously unfamiliar with this venue so as soon as i walked in, I asked the man in the front desk where my event was. I literally said «Hello, do you know where the _​_​_​_​_​_​event is taking place?» And the man gave me a very warm smile and said «Of course. It’s on the third floor»…
Up I go up the stairs to the third floor, and yay! I see a room with a bunch of tables, and people standing around, talking — I spotted a few familiar faces and so I entered and looked around… something was a little off. We (my colleagues and I) were all a little confused, since this is where we were told to go, but we did not recognize anyone that invited us here, but what do we know? This is where we were told to go! After about 15 minutes of just wandering and minor socializing, an older gentleman came up to a colleague of mine and started asking us questions we did not know answers to, and this is when we realized something was wrong. Soon, someone came into the room and told us that we were in the wrong room, and that our event was on the 4^th floor…
First of all. The man in the front should always be aware of what events are going on in the Club. Secondly, we ended up being 20 minutes late to the event we were invited for, because of the fault of the Club! That is unacceptable! We were all so embarrassed, and rushed out of the room on the 3^rd floor, and when our event ended, we made sure to speed through the stairs by the 3^rd floor because we didn’t want to meet the people we met in the wrong room! I mean, I ate a crabcake in there! hahahahaha
But in all honesty, it was a really embarrassing moment for me, and so I hope they sort things out over there and make sure things like this never ever happen again…

As a second-​year graduate student, and an up and coming minister, membership at the Algonquin Club is far beyond my reality. Nonetheless, I had the superb pleasure of talking to the chefs at this weekend’s ChowderFest. First and foremost, the chowder was PHENOMENAL. Rich and creamy, with just the right mix of clam and potato pieces. Even better, however, was the personal attention of the chefs and staff on hand at the event. Each and every one of them was more than friendly, introducing themselves by first name, chatting, and laughing. The receptionist (whose name I am keeping in my own secret stash) even invited us to the exclusive club for dinner after handing us each HUGE to-​go containers of chowder to bring home.
With chowder that good, I am sure the rest of the menu is brimming with to die for delectables. And the service, if my experience was any indication, would seem out of this world. Access to the main dining room at the Algonquin is hard to come by, but given the opportunity I say seize the dish!
