AMC Loews Boston Common 19

About the only good thing I can say about this theater is its location. It’s conveniently placed smackdab in the center of Boston. Its proximity to the Common gives you both a cool view of the park and easy access to the park and the T. Aside from that, it’s a long list of a problems… On busy nights, the lines can bottleneck at the ticket-​takers, getting pretty chaotic with confused ticketholders, intentionally and otherwise, cutting the lines due to little to zero queue management.
And if you want to catch anything other than a tentpole movie, watch out! A few of their smaller auditoriums, namely numbers 3, 7 and 8 have the dubious honor of being directly below a posh gym that, by the sounds of it, boasts a collection of the world’s angriest weight-​lifters. So don’t be surprised if your movie’s soundtracks gets infused with some Hulk-​sized grunts and plate-​slamming. This theater’s old school hallway configuration makes it an ideal target for moviegoers looking to skip from movie to movie. As a result, the theater has had to amp up security with the guards sometimes standing vigilant during movies which can be pretty distracting.
On top of all this, this is probably last remaining AMC theater that hasn’t had the reclining chair makeover which sucks because a) the seats are not only non-​adjustable, but also rickety and old and b) people sitting behind you can still annoyingly tap or rock your seat with their feet. All in all, this would be a pretty mediocre theater if not for its locale and quasi-​cool movie memorabilia. With the new AMC in Assembly Square offering more creature comforts, snack options and seat selector options, it’s hard to justify spending money here.

Dylan, at the ticket counter was rude. He lacked basic customer service skills.
Otherwise this location is just fine. Convenient commute, beautiful venue, standard everything else.

Convenient in the middle of Boston, right in front of Boylston St. (Green Line), 5 minute walk from Park St. (Green/​Red Line), and 5 minute walk from Chinatown (Orange Line).
This place doesn’t have the recliner seats like the AMC theater in Assembly Square. So a little uncomfortable compared to the others. No reserved seating eating unfortunately.
They even checked our IDs when I was seated inside after they checked my ID when purchasing. We were watching a rated R movie so we were okay with it but a little annoying if they have to check it twice. Unless you forget your ID then gg they’ll ask you to leave, but you can probably refund your ticket.

Large movie theater that is conveniently situated in the city to go to a movie on a whim. DO NOT go for any other reason than spontaneity. Theaters are not clean (possible bodily fluid stains) and rampant with youths who like to provide a commentary throughout the entire experience.
Got the 2 stars instead of 1 because the scarce staff were friendly and I found it very easy to sneak in snacks. And at $ 13.50 for a Sunday afternoon matinée who could blame me?!

Convenient location and plays all the current blockbusters, but otherwise, in dire need of updating. Theatre felt old, not clean, all the escalators were literally broken — not really justifiable when you’re paying these ticket prices — AMC Loews can do better. Staff was friendly. Much prefer Assembly Row — not the most convenient location — but amazing seats and beautiful theatre.

I was there watching a 10 pm showing of Tang Whiskey Foxtrot with my girlfriend on our day trip getaway to Boston. The theater was beautiful and very well taken care of and the theater we were in was very nice and clean. Unfortunately i couldn’t get passed the fact that on several occasions during the movie I saw mice and a lot of them. They were all over the ground in the front and running right in front of people. I don’t think they saw them but I saw a lot of them. I understand its a large movie theater in a large city like Boston, but it is still not a good sign to see so many mice in a theater as i can only imagine how many more there was in the entire building and theaters.

From the outside this movie theater looks really nice, it’s 2 floors and 19 screens! But once you get into the theater it is clear that the staff is not cleaning well in between showings, basically just picking up the big pieces of trash, the floors are more often than not sticky and crumbs of popcorn often litter the ground. The prices for everything from the tickets to concessions are just absurd, but that’s to be expected for a theater in the city.

Have been coming to this theater since I was a teenager as I lived a couple blocks away, yay for city living! There are plenty of movies to keep you entertained. Food and drinks are always (over)priced as with other cinemas and theaters around. This place is cleaner now than it was in the past, great job staff!
A convenient walk or T ride away — on almost every line (red, green, and orange). Close to food and shopping (Chinatown and Downtown).

I’m conflicted about this place. I’ve been coming here since PG-​13 was risqué because it’s basically the only major theater in the Boston area. Assembly Square is changing that, but you can’t beat the fact that this Loews is right next to the red and green lines. The Regal Fenway is another option, but it tends not to run as many movies, plus it’s a little bit more run down.
Despite the huge selection of movies and showtimes here, I’ve always been underwhelmed by the service and atmosphere. Recently I was with a group of friends and one of us didn’t have a driver’s license, although she had a college ID and a picture of her passport saying that she was 22. The cashier made a huge stink and refused to let us in, forcing the whole group to wait 10 minutes to be refunded. I’m surprised that others have complimented the customer services since this whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth. I guess we could have been undercover agents for the MPAA, but getting agitated with us (not to mention causing a huge backup in the line for tickets) was not necessary at all.
On the bright side, tickets are only $ 6.50 for show times before 11:55am! Don’t ask me what they show before 11:55, but still, it’s a good deal… They also offer a military discount, but not on matinée prices because they’re already discounted (?!).
Although Loews Boston Common is super convenient, I’d much rather go to Somerville Theatre or Capitol Theatre, save a few bucks, and interact with people who actually care about customers and movies.

Showed up at 6PM on Sunday with a sleeping baby and they refused to sell us a ticket. They have a «no kids under six after six policy»… Silly.

Doesn’t matter if you’re 20 or 30. If you forget your ID don’t expect to get into any rated R movies. I forget my ID once right as I’m about to go to the Revenant, only went to the counter to get the discount pricing and I’m met with an old guy who says he’ll lose his job if he lets me buy a ticket and the manager was sarcastic and bitchy to me.
Unless they thought I was some 16 year old genius with a college ID (in my last year by the way), they were giving me a hard time on purpose. Had to trek all the way back home, miss the movie and was in a terrible mood. This place is stricter than bars I’ve gone too, they clearly don’t realize it’s a damn movie theater.

There are no words for how much I hate this theater. Everytime I come here it is a total chaotic nightmare. Even if you purchase tickets online (forget just dropping in unless you are coming at 10am) you need to arrive at least 40 minutes early or you will end up with a crappy seat (or no seat at all). A few times I have showed up a half hour early with an online ticket and walked into a full theater only to have the customer service here tell me I can hang around for another showing or pick another movie, not ideal. Not sure if they are overselling or if they have lax security and people are sneaking in from other movies but it’s very frustrating to show up sufficiently early for your showtime and not be able to see the movie you purchased a ticket for.
This past Saturday I met some friends at 6pm for a 7pm showing of The Revenant which we had pre purchased tickets for. We wanted to play it extra safe knowing what a hellish nightmare it can be on a weekend evening here. There was already a queue downstairs where they had us all waiting for no apparent reason. Finally they let us up in groups and we were asked to wait in another random line upstairs. There was no sign that this line existed or anyone from the theater directing people, just a bunch of people waiting in a random line along the windows. As a result some people unknowingly walked by the unmarked line to the theater all the way down the hall and were asked to turn around and go back in line by an employee down the far end of the hall. This process happened for over 45 minutes. Finally at 10 of an employee walked over and told everyone in the line they would let us in and we were all to walk orderly in the line formation down to the theater leaving people with 6ish minutes to find a seat and go grab food (many people were scrambling to do so). This bizarre and nonsensical process has happened to me so many times I can’t even count and I must keep coming back because I am a glutton for punishment. All I know for sure is my experience on Saturday was the last straw and I am vowing to save my sanity and stop coming here. All I want is to show up with my ticket, grab food and walk into the theater with plenty of time to relax and settle in before the show without all this ridiculous fanfare. Is that too much to ask?
My advice: SAVE YOURSELF and go to the Fenway, Coolidge, or Kendall theaters where you will have little to no aggravation and a much more enjoyable movie going experience!

Was amazed by how many floors there are in this theater. Visiting from San Jose, CA I was impressed. Although, I was a bit disappointed it didn’t have a large arcade like other theaters I’ve been too. Men’s restrooms had a strong odor of urine when you walk in, but guess it’s because it was already late night? Easy cab access.

WOW guys talk about phoning it in, I understand we were there on a Thursday for a 10:15pm show but really.
We had ordered our tickets online, so we had our tickets on our phone. The «ticket taker» pointed to the scanner and then began a conversation with her coworker, and did not answer the questions my Boyfriend posed.
The people at the snack counter were engaged and were getting people through the short line fairly well.
However the butter, salt, straws, and napkin counter was a disaster area, it was really gross and badly needed attending. Perhaps having it somewhere where the snack counter staff can see that it needs attention might be a better placement in the future.
We were fairly early for the movie and the theater was empty, as we selected a row and moved down it I noticed a dustpan had been left in the row.
On exiting the theater, on the way to the restroom I had to side step a partially filled trash bag.
Come on really you can do better.

I’ve kept coming several times here. Amazing place with friends if you hang around downtown. Nice atmosphere and kind staff. Clean and neat restroom. Overall it is not bad theater.
The BIG DOWNSIDE is:
the rule of ticket.
NO seat number on tickets… people just randomly take a seat. Even I totally can consider as a «First come first serve», but sometimes when it comes to a hot movie, you fail to get a seat unless you are a SINGLE and don’t care sitting in the middle a bunch of kids with popcorns.(you’ll lost yourself seriously.)
and every time you cannot choose the seat even if you bought a ticket earlier than others but come a little bit later than others, MISS!
Think about how to improve your ticket info and that’s basic, simple and straightforward, like just printing seat number on the ticket.

Why paying more for less?
The reason I came here was simple: this was the only cinema having the movie I was looking for in the greater boston area, and it was the only pro for this place.
Con: 30% higher price compared to other amc w/​o competitive amenities. Parking was extremely limited, given few high-​priced garage around; uncomfortable seats, which I think were popular 20 years ago; dirty, unclean unsanitary floor; small auditorium with less than 200 seats and mini screen…
Shitty choice.

Right near Park Street and Boylston Street stations. Plenty of restaurants nearby for a pre-​movie meal.
It’s a huge theater so they always have all the latest flicks. Keep an eye on the newspaper since they often host pre-​release screenings as well.
Had a bunch of obnoxious teenagers in the theater tonight and a crying baby in my theater tonight. My friends and I complained to a friendly manager and got free passes so it wound up being an ok night.
Make sure to dress in layers since it’s always cold.

Went here yesterday on my daughter’s half day of school. She wanted to see the Maze Runner: Scorch Trials. She was so excited to finally see it. We bought our popcorn, soda and candy and went in to watch the previews.
While seating, my daughter noticed something out of the corner of her eye — it was a rat. Actually 2 of them. We tried to focus on the movie, but after seeing them run around 5 times, we gave up. I went to inform the manager and he looked like he’s heard this many times before. We won’t be going back.
Also, it made me give it 1 star, I would’ve done NONE.

HUGE! Located Downtown close to the Greenline. Plenty of places to eat around the area before or after the movie.
I came here once to watch Inside Out on a rainy day. It was a lovely experience. It was crowded but there are plenty of self-​service machines to purchase your movie tickets if you don’t feel like dealing with anyone, though staff or any other patrons weren’t bothersome at all, at least on this day. The building is HUGE. Escalators take you to the theaters. Theaters are nice and spacious. Seats are comfy. I haven’t tried anything at the concession stand so I wouldn’t know how great or not it is.
I’ll be back again.

Outdated but with a great view. Save yourself the money, but not the convenience, and go to one of the AMC’s outside the city to be comfortable.

It’s convinient. The satff is semi nice, depends on who you get. The rooms are easy to find. Theaters 1 – 3 or 4 are on the «lower» part of the movie theater so phone reception is horrible. soft drinks and treats are super expensive which is everywhere (they need to do a better job at cleaning their work area). i like the decoration of the movie theater tho. Love the old school paintings like the wizard of oz, my favorite.

I have never walked into this theater without feeling excited, even after coming here for a decade (OK, maybe on the rare occasion that I am dragged to watch a chick flick with a girlfriend). It is smack in the city and the décor is pretty cool. I love the giant snack statues above the food and drinks. The bathrooms can be a nightmare. I mean, what do you expect, it is right in the city. The standard theaters are pretty small. You have to go up stairs to grab a seat, so keep that in mind if you are holding popcorn. Yes, I am telling you this because I have dropped many beautiful, gold drizzled $ 5 bags of popcorn. Many tears were shed.
The checkout process is quick and easy. Being a movie fanatic, I usually book tickets for opening night. I run in, use the machines to grab my tickets with a slide of my credit card, and then head for the back row of that theater.
I have a bad experience here and there. I was late to see Kingsman: The Secret Service (thanks MBTA, what a surprise!), and saw that it was sold out upon arrival. My friend was in the theater and told me that there were open seats. I was half an hour late but was willing to go in still. I asked the manager if I could grab a seat since my friend told me that there were surely open seats in the theater. She brought me to the theater without making me pay. So I walk into the theater and immediately grab a seat. I see a lot of faces looking at me as if I’m an alien. I start watching and then I notice why I’m getting looked at. The movie more than ¾ over. I have no idea what is going on but it’s pure action. They sent me to the wrong theater! I basically watched the end and then had to wait in a coffee shop for my friend to finish the movie. What a big bummer.
Now, if I were to rate the people in the theaters? Oh boy, easily a zero. People are constantly on their phones, talking, running in and out of the theater, etc. The teenagers are the worst. I remember watching Interstellar and hearing a group of girls just say they didn’t get it over and over throughout the movie. Just Wikipedia it later, please.

3.5 stars. Pretty standard theater sizes but there’s a bunch of theaters inside. The staff is friendly and there’s almost always a crowd. I went around noon on a Friday and the movie I saw (a few weeks old already) still had a full theater. Chairs were comfortable and rock with stadium seating.
Overall, it’s a decent movie theater and I’ll come back for more.

Here’s my rant: Ticket ordering was kind of dumb… there’s a line to pay for tickets and there are also computerized kiosks. Was confused because «hey, why aren’t people using the kiosks to pay for their tickets instead of waiting in line?» Turns out these machines wouldn’t work half the time cause my Amex card wouldn’t work. Ended up waiting in line to pay with a cashier but what annoyed me was the cashier was rude enough to tell me to step away from the automated kiosk that wasn’t working.
Movie experience wise it wasn’t bad. Grabbed the best seats half an hour before the movie «started». What was annoying was whoever set up the screen left some funky thing on the screen that could’ve led to some seizures for about 5 minutes until normal advertisements came on.

This movie theater. just WOW. This is a two-​story movie theater mwith escalators that take you to each floor. The first floor is where you buy tickets and the second floor is for purchasing snacks and watching movies. The snacks are directly to your right as you get off the escalator. There are barely any lines becasue there were so many cashiers ready to take orders. The area allocated to snacks was immense. The movies are down a long hallway that is dedicated to represent architecture from the 1920s. The carpet is red and decorated and there are lights on the walls. Further down the hallway, there are two more hallways where the movies can be found. Depending on which room you’re in, you go to either hallway.
The rooms where the movies are shown are fairly large. The chairs are cushiony but they are sorta uncomfortable when you sit on them for a long time.
I paid $ 12 for a regular movie on Friday afternoon. The price of the ticket increases as the movie quality gets better, such as Imax. A bit pricey but nonetheless, a very nice theater to watch your favorite movie! Highly recommended.

Convenient location, lots of movies, and decent food. It’s great to have a movie theater right in the city and right next to the Boylston t-​stop. The conditions do leave room for improvement though. The bathrooms are always gross which I guess is typical of movie theaters but it seems like they could improve on it a bit. I’ve also noticed that there are many extra concession stands around but they’re usually closed, even on a Saturday night. So you have to walk out to the main lobby to get popcorn even though there’s a popcorn counter right next to your theater. It doesn’t make any sense.
Overall the movie selection is pretty good but often enough there’s a movie only playing at Kendall Square for whatever reason. It’d be nice if they had some of the popular indie films sometimes.

This theater is a great location. The place is huge and easy to get to. I’ve seen four movies at the location over the past year and a half.
The seats are decent, but it’s always packed when I go. Also, not necessarily a problem with the establishment itself, but there are tons of kids that are loud and a bit disruptive. This usually doesn’t bother me, but I’ve been cut off at the lines and have had to walk around a group of kids that really don’t seem to care that they’re blocking a large portion of the hallway.
Nonetheless, I won’t stop going to the theater as these are usually only issues during walking in/​out of the theater.

It’s like a lose-​lose situation with these type of city establishments. It’s a great location, smack dab in the middle of the city. Getting there via public transportation is easy as pie.
Everything else however sucks because of, well, it’s location. Because of it’s prime rental spot, the tickets and food have a slight upcharge. The service is scatter and, honestly, look as if they’d rather work as a piñata for a kid’s birthday party, being hung upside down and getting hit with a wooden stick. I guess I would too during the peak times — they look like they need to be at 5 places at once and just shy of a nuclear meltdown.
Seats are okay, place is a bit dirty (due to lack of adequate staff to address an obvious popcorn spill in the middle of the hallway for example), and there are tons of theaters so the variety is typically good. Overall, adequate and average.

I practically live here.
Really amazing that my school have some great discount so I get to go to the movies here quite often.
I’d rather take the t for 30 minutes to come all the way here than to walk for 5 minutes to Regal (Fenway). AMC is just much nicer.
Bigger seats, and the arm rest will lift up so you can cuddle with your S.O.; If you are single you can cuddle with a big tube of popcorn.
Theater is always clean, not sticky seats, have lots of time available so you can always be able to watch the latest hits.
I seriously went to see GOTG 4 times here with 4 different friends because I’m weird, and it’s a really good theater, and that’s a really great movies…
