I am being nice here because I like the people. After years of going to the place I noticed a few years ago things started heading down hill. First, they have a problem with their pad Thai which used to be excellent. The chicken is tough, the shrimp non-existent and of poor quality. They still do the curry dishes okay, but something happened with the hot & fresh factor. This is a place that is okay for a cheap lunch, but unless they revamp their dinner menu and work on the presentation, I’d say go elsewhere. This is from a person who has been a big fan in the past and wants the place to stay around. Upgrade Shrimp, work on freshness, make sure things are delivered hot!

The food was average, the service was bad. They never came to check-in with us and we were begging for the bill. My friend and I both had dishes with green beans which tasted very odd. Never had a chance to let them know.

I had the Pad Thai with shrimp. They have this cool combo deal where you can get half an appetizer for $ 2.50 with the purchase of an entrée so I did that & got the crab rangoons. I also ordered the tea latte. Noodles were good, just a little on the sweet side. But I was able to fill up on half of the plate. Shrimp was a tad big overcooked but I love shrimp so it would take a lot for me not to eat them. Crab rangoons were super greasy, thin & crispy. I’m used to the ones I ate at New China Express in Chicago where the dough is thicker and can allow for more filling. These also were not as creamy on the inside as I’m used to. The tea was too sweet to me. I asked the waitress to dilute it, which she was able to do. But the heavy cream was turning me off. I can’t give this place a bad review just off of personal preferences, and it wasn’t a bad experience at all! I will definitely go back, after researching the entrees more. Great customer service.

My girlfriend and I ordered drunken noodles and pineapple fried rice. Not only are the prices reasonable, but the wait staff is really friendly and the food is delicious! The fried rice had lots of tasty ingredients in it and the noodles were really balanced in flavor and texture. Would definitely eat again!

Stopped by while visiting BOS when looking for something a little different. Oddly enough, the bartender across the street did not mention this place when I asked for Thai recommendations. But we walked by and saw it and went in. Wifey had the Penang Curry and she said it was excellent. She always gets that at every Thai restaurant so it must have been pretty good. I had the Drunken Noodle and it was also pretty good. For the(excellent) location I thought the prices were decent for a sit down restaurant. Everywhere else around here can be expensive. I thought the service was pretty typical for a Thai place, as was the atmosphere. The place is thin so I am not sure about large groups, but other reviewers didn’t seem to have an issue with that. Overall I would recommend this place for Thai in Boston at a reasonable price in Back Bay. The main reason for only 3 stars was that I found a hair in my food. Of course, this happens — I didn’t ask for my money back, or make a big stink about it, I just mentioned it to the manager after I paid because I think its an honest mistake. Other than that, it was good thai food!

Came here for dinner on a weeknight. It was a nice night so we sat outside. We had the golden tofu, Penang curry with shrimp, and Tom Yum soup. The flavors are good, although certainly not the best I’ve had. The curry was nice and spicy, not bland or underseasoned. My only real complaint is that the shrimp was overcooked. It was a bit rubbery and shriveled, probably just from cooking too long. And, the golden tofu was cut too thick for my taste. I like them a little crispier and thinner, but recognize that some people might prefer the thicker pieces.

We were famished after shopping and decided to try this place. Plus — huge portions. Great location. Cons — server was hinting or promoting to make us order more; pad sew was just low quality rice noodles(trust me on noodle quality) doused in dark sweet sauce. Crispy pad thai was very mediocre where the corn starch gravy was forgettable and lacked identity. I guess it made enough impression for me to make this review. Their siew mai appetizer was expensive(4 pieces) and extremely poor quality. Only eat here when convenient.

Decent… would have never known this was here. Not fancy at all for being on Boylston st. We made a reservation for 12 but they weren’t expecting us, they just put some tables together as it wasn’t even busy on a Saturday night. Therefore it was quiet and we could actually hear each other talk. Food was typical, good but nothing spectacular. Prices were reasonable.

Decent prices for its location(I expected it to be much more expensive). Got a few lunch specials and they all pleased, but my friend thought one of his dishes were a bit bland(pad seew?}. I’d recommend all Thai food fans give it a try.

I have a very special connection to this restaurant. It’s like a third place to me that I can easily immerse myself into its warming environment(fresh flowers, dim lights, cozy space…). Every time I visit Bangkok Blue I am able to fully enjoy myself with a good meal. I’ve tried their fried rice, chicken curry dish, gaprow and some wonderful appetizers that I couldn’t name of: p The food was good in general(I would give 8⁄10). What I value the most about this restaurant is its nice and serene atmosphere. I always feel very peaceful and calm dinning there:-)

Huge portions. Got the appetizer sampler, hot and sour soup, sweet and sour chicken and shrimp, thai fried rice and chicken with basil sauce. All were amazing and moderately priced. Huge portions.

We were in town on a Saturday around the Hynes Auditorium area, so we headed over the Bangkok Blue, located just across the street from the Boston Public Library Boylston Street entrance. Their lunch menu is available daily till 4pm. We opted to share two dishes, the Pad Thai $ 8.25(also available with tofu or vegetable, or the crispy variation for $ 8.50) and Tamarind Duck(boneless roasted duck topped with shredded ginger, mushrooms, pineapple, onions, bell peppers, tomatoes and scallions in tamarind sauce) $ 9.45. The duck was the larger disappointment visually as the few pieces of duck were tossed in among the vegetables, rather than laid out on top with its crispy skinned glory, while the pad thai was deemed overly sour by my DC. Neither would have me rushing back in the near feature as there are many other spots to try in the area. Their Thai Iced Tea, however, was given the thumbs up by my luncheon companion as a tasty not overly sweet variation. Bangkok Blue is a long narrow space with patio seating out front. They have a single unisex handicap accessible bathroom out back, with two locks, both of which need to be used for successful lockage per their signs.

Came into Bangkok Blue with expectations of standard, maybe mediocre Thai food. The inside looks like your standard, unpretentious Thai restaurant, with ill fitting wall décor and no frills seating. Shame on me for reading this book by the cover. Our food — an order of pad thai, yellow curry, and tofu fried rice — was out in a jiffy and steaming hot. And the flavor was out of this world. I had plate envy as I stared longingly at my sister’s pad thai, but my yellow curry was also fabulous. Coming back soon!

I placed a large take out order for an office lunch yesterday. Everything was ready at the time I needed to pick up, so that was great. However, they did forget a thai iced tea that was in the order. They had called my office # to let me know, but I wasn’t going to walk the 5 min back to go get a drink. I ordered the Tom Yom soup and the house salad. From the description, I thought the soup would be similar to a Chinese hot and sour soup. The menu indicated it was spicy, but it was more sour than spicy, which I did not like, so I didn’t eat much of it. The salad was good, but tiny. There were maybe 3 or 4 tiny shreds of chicken in it. The crushed peanut sweet/sour dressing was really good. I was still hungry after eating this measly lunch. All of the traditional Thai dishes(pad thai) looked great and all of my co workers seemed to enjoy it. Not in a rush to go back.

My friend and I thought the pineapple fried rice was good so was the crispy pad Thai. It’s not the most amazing but pretty good that i approve. I do have to say though, I wish there was more noodles in the pad Thai. The fried shumai wasn’t that awesome, but maybe it because I know what the real thing tastes like. My Riesling was good. The waitstaff is very nice. Clean restaurant and good atmosphere.

I have only been here once so after repeated visits the rating could go up or down. I was here last weekend after a yoga workshop and man was I hungry! I decided to try the Drunken Noodles because I’ve never had them before but I hear people raving about them. Well, I was glad that I did. The veggies were not overcooked and the meat was plentiful(I got beef). The sauce was not too salty so I am guessing MSG is not in that dish. I also ordered Thai Iced Tea, which was sweet and did not have too much ice in it. The service was fast and friendly and their bathroom was quite clean. I sat outside but the inside was cozy without being cramped. I will definitely come back and try something different. For now, I am a fan!

3 star food, then 4 star service(one of the ladies congratulated my family on our success since I just moved to the city for graduate school — so sweet a gesture!). Bangkok Blue Thai is in a really prime location on Boylston across from the Boston Public Library. It’s a clean, bright spot with plenty of both outdoor and indoor seating. It didn’t seem too busy at a weekday lunch hour with a few people on the patio and one or two small parties inside. GARLICCHICKENANDSHRIMP: I imagined this garlicky, flavorful dish, but it was actually really plainly cooked. Still very serviceable, though however with only one or two pieces of shrimp. CASHEWNUTSCHICKEN: It was nearly identical in taste to the garlic chicken and shrimp dish because they use a similar sauce and exact same chicken pieces. You do get cashews, pineapple, and a few other different vegetables. Otherwise, seasoning is the same, and again, it’s just a serviceable dish. SOFTSHELLCRABSWITHBASILSAUCE: my favorite thing about Thai food is fresh basil, so I was excited for this combo dish. Oh, how it fell flat. The crab was more tough than soft. There is a bit of a kick to the sauce, so the mild heat surprised me. Most of my rice became soggy quickly from that sauce too. I only finished half the meal, and the rest didn’t serve well to take home as leftovers. THAITEA: none too sweet and very refreshing on a summer afternoon! Very large portion. Can’t say I’ll be back anytime soon, but it was a fair enough meal. There is a lunch special menu, which is much more reasonably priced than the dinner menu(it practically doubles all the prices!).

There was nothing about this place that will make me return to it again. FOOD: OK, a bit bland & forgettable. They admitted to using frozen shrimp. SERVICE: The servers were patient with us, but seemed to have a bit of a language barrier. The service was VERYSLOW as well… I had to re-order my glass of wine 3 times. ATMOSPHERE: Outdoor dining available in Summer. THEDEAL: This restaurant is good for large parties, and you might have it to yourself. We went here after the Charlesmark Martini Party, right next door, with a party of 12 at 8:00… and it was as if we’d rented out a private place!
