Nice food but really a bit pricey and small portions. The service was slow and overall not matching prices. Would expect a little more attention if you expect to be at a somewhat upscale restaurant

Great location and great restaurant. The lemon buttermilk pancakes were delicious, the servers were attentive, and I would definitely dine here again!

My husband and I started out with a signature bourbon truffle cocktail for two(the name escapes me). Was absolutely Devine. The amuse bouche(a pâté with pickle and olive) which was served with the drink was fabulous. We were hesitant to try it(as we’ve never had pâté) and were without regret once we did. We ended up ordering the charcuterie and octopus appetizers to start our meal and shared the roast chicken for two. It was most tender roast chicken I’ve ever had! We finished off with the Elderberry soufflé. The perfect ending to a perfect meal. Light and sweet. The service and ambience were both pleasant and without complaint. I would recommend Bistro du Midi to anyone visiting Boston, for a delightful dining experience.

Great place! We ordered pancakes, steak and eggs, mushrooms and potato Rosti! Definitely one of the best brunches I have had in a while! The pancakes were perfect, crispy on the outside and warm and soft on the inside! Best pancakes I have ever had! Overall the place is sophisticated and has a great view of a beautiful park!

Came here last Friday night with my parents and it did not disappoint! While I have been to this restaurant before, I had never dined downstairs in the more casual setting. Surprisingly, I think I actually preferred the relaxed atmosphere downstairs to the sometimes stuffy atmosphere of the upstairs restaurant. From my understanding, the menu is the same on both floors, with the café menu included as well downstairs. We ordered the Spanish octopus & smoked mussels marinated in lobster jus to start. It was absolutely devine! My mom had never had grilled octopus before and immediately fell in love. For entrees, my Dad and I both ordered the Codfish with native clams, potato crisp, citronelle ‘chowder.’ According to my Dad, this item has been on their menu for years and is one of their big staple dinner items! My mom ordered the Salmon off the café menu which she thoroughly enjoyed. Since the dinner was so fantastic, we decided ti splurge and order one dessert to share. Though I was dying to try the Earl Grey & Elderflower soufflé, the item takes 25 minutes to prepare so we ordered the Meyer lemon meringue pie with almond shortbread, raspberry mousse. While I typically hate lemon desserts and meringue. I have to say this dessert was pretty outstanding. Overall, a wonderful night with top-notch service, ambiance, company and food!

I think I have found my new favorite French spot in Boston. This Parisian style bistro has the perfect small and charming atmosphere in the Café part downstairs. We were seated pretty quickly near the windows. Although it did take our waiter awhile to come over and get us waters and take our drink order. We started with the potato and fennel pancakes which were out of this world delicious. Seriously they were so good. Right up on par with our favorite latkes ever from Zaftiqs. We both ordered the Croque Madame which was the best Ive ever had. I have a favorite spot for getting a Croque Monsieur and I think Bistro Midi may have surpassed them. And the egg on top was cooked exactly how I love my eggs, so there was no messy yolk leaking out to ruin the sandwich. I will definitely be coming back to try the dinner menu upstairs. Maybe for a special event or celebration as the menu looks on the pricey side. But if they could do lunch so well I cant wait to try the dinner entrees. The loss of one star comes from our server, who was a bit odd. He seemed to loom over us and had an intimidating air about him. He wasnt very friendly at all. Now maybe in Paris you would kind of expect and maybe even accept that, but not here. He was clearly American and just seemed bored with his job. Everything we asked for we had to wait forever to get. Like it would take him forever to come back to refill waters, etc. On top of that, our table was against the windows blocking the door to the outside patio. I didnt think much of it as no one was sitting out there, and the front door led out to the patio as well. Until halfway through eating our meal we were interrupted and asked to stand up so they could move our table so this lady could wheel out her SUV sized double stroller to exit the restaurant as it wouldnt fit through the front door. And I as I stood there, practically holding my food in my hand, she whizzed by without even looking at me or thanking me. The whole thing was so rude, and I cant believe some people’s sense of entitlement and lack of respect for others around them. Why not take the kids out of the stroller, fold up the stroller and exit out the front door without disturbing my meal?

Had an almost 400 dollar valentines day Meal here. The drinks were phenomenal but the food was average with some great items and some ordinary. Nothing really stood out as wow. We had the prefix which was 8 courses.

Went here with a friend to grab a bite to eat for dinner on a weekday. We made a reservation, but we were easily able to be seated in the dining room upstairs. To start off, they have a basket of bread and breadsticks which had some interesting options that you don’t normally find and were decent. For an appetizer, we decided to go with the octopus. The octopus was cooked well, but I felt it was a bit gamey and had a little bit of grit on it that made it a little less desirable. My friend and I both really enjoyed the sauce it was paired with – though we wish there was a bit more of it. For the main course, we decided to split an order of the monkfish and duck breast. I love monkfish and this dish did not disappoint. It was served atop a slice of eggplant and a cooked tomato concoction that was really tasty. The fish was also cooked nicely and had a great flavor to pair with the veggies. The duck breast was a classic preparation and was served with hints of cherry jam and sweet potato purée that really heightened the flavors of the dish. I wouldn’t say that we were totally blown away, but it was definitely a solid rendition. For my drink, I ordered the Sirocco – damn was this a great drink – maybe even the best drink I’ve had in Boston thus far. I can’t even remember all the ingredients in it, but it was packed full of flavor. Overall, this place had some great qualities and some good qualities. Nothing(other than the drink) really knocked our socks off, but everything was pretty solid nonetheless. The service was attentive, but was honestly a bit awkward – though nothing that detracted from the overall experience.

I went to bistro du midi for our anniversary dinner last weekend. My boyfriend came here few years ago and he really enjoyed the roasted chicken. So I decided to give that a try. Appetizer: Faroe Island Salmon Main: Roasted Chicken for Two Dessert: complementary assorted dessert We first started off with salmon while we were waiting for the chicken(which takes about 60 min to prepare). It was pretty good but so small. Some of them had heavy taste of cilantro but some of them didn’t. Chicken took an hour but we knew that before we placed the order so it was fine. The chicken tasted good and it was roasted very deliciously but it was WAYTOOSALTY. Sometimes when I chew I could feel chunks of salt in my mouth. The vegetables on the side helped with the saltiness a little but not much. Neither of us could finish our plate because we felt like our tongues were going numb. When our server came to check on us, we told him that the chicken was too salty. He asked if we wanted to order something else instead but we said we were fine since we already waited too long for it. Later, the manager came to apologize. Since we didn’t want to order something else, he offered us complementary desserts along with his apology, which was very nice. We really appreciated his action. The complementary desserts included assortments of earl grey & elderflower soufflé, Wile blueberry cheesecake, and chocolate Kalua custard. They were all very good but I enjoyed the cheesecake the most.

Bistro du Midi is a must-try French venue for any Boston foodie. The location alone is impeccable — you’ll be seated just across the street from the Public Garden, a city oasis which includes a pond, countless willow trees, a bridge, musicians, swan boats, actual swans, and every flower in season. Since turning gluten-free, I’ve moved away from my staple french toast brunches, replacing them with the best egg dishes I can find to start my day off right. Bistro du Midi is perfect for this venture, as it has one of the best and fluffiest omelettes around! See pics for a cross-section. In case anyone was doubting the sheer fluffiness of this omelette: Look how thick the egg layer is! It’s unheard of. The inside is filled with super healthy, dark green spinach and ooey-gooey melted cheddar cheese. All you have to do is bring your appetite(and your wallet, of course). On top of the scrumptious dishes, Bistro du Midi has really incredible service. It’s a classy venue with great ambiance, and the servers and management really take care of you. My friend asked for a croissant though they weren’t on the menu. We figured it was a French restaurant so it was worth a shot to ask them, and they actually did come back with a warm, flaky croissant! Service is so important to me when dining out, so I really appreciated this. We actually visited for dinner during restaurant week last year and it was pretty amazing then too. If you’re in the Boston area, I definitely recommend Bistro du Midi!

Once again, a great dining experience. Came here for restaurant week for the second year in a row. I have officially decided this is my favorite restaurant in the city. The cocktails are absolutely on par with the likes of The Hawthorne and Eastern Standard. I will surely return to experience the full menu and take in this cozy, old-world escape as often as I can.

We tried out Bistro Du Midi tonight for Dine Out and were fairly disappointed. All dishes were very average and not very exciting. We ordered the liver pâté and hamachi crudo to start. Both came out under 5 min after we placed our order, which made us think the dishes had been sitting out for quite some time. Next, we ordered the beef cheek daube and statler chicken. The beef cheek was more of a short rib, but was served in a tasty sauce. The statler chicken was a generous portion, but barely any polenta on the side. This disch could have used a vegetable in it to vary the texture and flavor. Lastly, ordered the mascarpone beignets and the flourless chocolate torte. Beignets were pretty good, but the flourless torte was surprising. We were expecting more of a cake, but the tort came out in a skinny rod form and had rasberry cream on top; a dollop of caramel ice cream came on the side. Would have enjoyed the dessert more if there was more of the chocolate torte. Overall, we were not very impressed and would probably not dine here again given other French restaurants in the city.

We went to Bistro du Midi for New Years Eve this year; it was our 3rd visit overall. Honestly, I don’t think it could have possibly gone worse than it did. It was awful in all three areas: food, wine, service. It was so bad, we actually had fun laughing at the absurdity of the situation. The basics: it was a 7-course pre-fixe menu with wine pairing that came to a total of $ 625 w/tax + tip. That’s pretty expensive, but it was NYE and if we had excellent food, wine and service it would have been worth it. The food: The razor clam soup was the star of the night. The venison was average. The yellowtail crudo was borderline disgusting, I can’t believe it was even served. The octopus was pretty tasty, but that’s just because it was octopus, it had a plain sauce and overcooked peppers on the side, that was it. The Loup de Mer(European Seabass) was ok, it wasn’t really cooked well as the skin was soggy which is definitely unpleasant. Both gnocchi dishes were actually really good, especially the truffle one, and the portion size was way too big for a tasting. The foie gras with chocolate was a bad decision as the two did not taste good together. It was overly sweet and you couldn’t taste the foie because of the chocolate and the cherry. The dessert seemed like it was purchased at Shaws and dropped on a plate. The wine: The wine was below average at best, poor if i’m being honest. Several of the wines were $ 10 – 15 which is unacceptable for this price point($ 95/pairing). In addition to that the order was absurd; it went from champagne to white to champagne to red to white to red. We couldn’t believe that the sommelier was serious with the selections he made. The service: There were many issues with the service. The waiter made a few mistakes including pouring the wrong wine for one of our pairings as well as constantly spilling wine onto the table when he poured. Mistakes are ok as everyone is human, but there were a lot of them. In addition, he was simply not trained well enough to be a waiter at a nice restaurant… which apparently Bistro du Midi really isn’t. Wine glasses were left on the table when we were drinking champagne, silverware wasn’t set or cleared properly. These are all things that you expect to be correct when you’re at a nice restaurant paying as much as we did. In summary — what we learned is that Bistro du Midi is at best faking it. They are not a nice restaurant despite prices and appearances. The chef, sommelier and waiters were unqualified to put together a meal with a price tag like the one we paid.

Had a fantastic early(5:30 pm) dinner here on a Saturday night, not crowded at all and pretty quiet. The ambiance is very European, romantic, and elegant, with luxurious plush seats and dim lighting. Perfect for a classier dinner /special occasion. This is actually my third time here — a review of what I’ve tried: Apps: 1) Seared Foie Gras(torchon) — Came in pâté form and served with an elevated toasted bread/brioche with dark chocolate(with ganache filling) on top — very innovative! The perfect amount for two to share. 2) Grilled Spanish Octopus — Also good, and beautiful presentation. Wouldn’t say it’s the best octopus I’ve had but enjoyed the grilled flavor & texture. Entrees:(in order of how much I’d recommend it) 1) Lamb neck — Wow. Seriously good, and probably a seasonal special? Get it if you like lamb, rich sauces, and bold flavors. The meat is actually falling-off-the-bone tender. 2) Seared duck breast — Seems like a popular dish, and for a good reason; the duck is perfectly cooked, beautifully presented, and complemented by the fruit. 3) Grilled pork chop — Tender /not dry at all, although could use some more flavor in the middle; but overall a very well-made rustic dish. 4) Wild Boar Ragout — A great option if you’re in the mood for pasta, just beware that the portion was REALLY small. Nevertheless, very rich and flavorful. Dessert: Soufflé! Get the chocolate one — tastes like molten dark chocolate, and the texture is very light and fluffy.

I was fortunate to finally have a lovely brunch at Bistro du Midi(after planning many events here in the past but never attending those events). A beautiful venue — definitely plan to get there early if you want a «quieter» brunch. The place gets packed super fast. The upper dining area is gorgeous with a beautiful main room and some private rooms to the side. If you’re lucky to sit by the window you can see the public garden in full view! The cocktail list was extensive(I opted for something fizzy and champagne based) and ended up with the quiche for brunch along with some oysters to start. My girlfriend ordered the salmon eggs benedict which looked(and tasted — I stole a bite) amazing. I will certainly be back!

Food was really good and the service was excellent. My uncle and I ate here the other night and we really enjoyed it. The portions are small, so I would recommend getting a side dish to split. I had the gazpacho, and while it was your traditional gazpacho, it was pretty good. I also had the salmon which was very good. Highly recommend this spot.

French food is one of my favorite types of cuisine and I loved this place! I came here during Restaurant Week and tried their appetizers, main course, and dessert. For the appetizer, I had the escargot beignet. This was interesting. I have never had escargot prepared in this method. They put a batter on the escargot and fried it. And they bathed it in this winter squash soup. The sweetness and creaminess of the soup enhanced the flavor of the escargot! I thought the escargot by itself was a little bland though. As for the entrée, I had pan roasted hake. First of all, the presentation was really nice. It was more on the rustic side, but yet they it was cohesive to the rest of the menu. I thought the hake was perfectly seared. The skin was crispy and the fish was moist and cooked at the right temperature. The main element of this dish, in my opinion, was the bouillabaisse. Although the consistency of the soup was light, but they somehow infused it with so much flavor. It was very rich and it paired well with the seafood. The dessert was the highlight of my dinner. I ordered the vanilla mousseline. Every component of the dish was a surprise at first bite. The espresso ice-cream was a perfect way to end the meal! It had such a strong espresso flavor and the chocolate-y, coffee flavor balanced well with the vanilla mousseline. Overall, I enjoyed every aspect of the meal. The service was good as well even though it was really busy. I plan to come back again soon!

Had dinner plans with my friends so we just thought hey lets try this place for restaurant week. moi: Escargot Beignet, Roasted Chicken Breast, and Caramelized Bosc Pear Tart Service was fine, no issue. We just sat at a table that made it almost impossible to get in and out so it was a little bit uncomfortable. The escargot came out looking pretty fantastic. I applaud the showmanship. No spoilers ;) But I was surprise that the squash soup was not warm… It wasn’t a chill soup though so I was confused. The escargot beignet tasted great, really fun to eat. My main made me sad though. The chicken’s seasoning wasn’t working for me. The skin was salty but the rest was pretty bland. And they make me feel like I don’t like polenta. I hope that if I have chosen something else, it would have tasted much better. My friend’s comments that his meal was ok, nothing extravagant. Dessert was my favorite however. The pear tart was nice and warm, leaving a good last impression. Hoping if I ever return, I can maybe bump the stars up a little higher.

I came here on the 3rd day of Restaurant Week Winter 2015. The food was fantastic as was the service! The choices available for Restaurant Week are all really amazing, but I would recommend getting the pan-roasted Hake. It was probably one of the most perfectly cooked and delicious pieces of fish I have ever had in my life. My dessert and salad were fantastic as well. All in all, a great meal and a really good deal. I will definitely be coming back for more!
