I sent an email last week inquiring about a scavenger hunt after seeing one of the vehicles in Faneuil Hall. After not receiving a email back, I decided to call and Eric picked up the phone. He seemed a little occupied and the reception was bad… ultimately we were disconnected, but he was able to call me back. When i started trying to tell him who I was and that I sent an email, he was more interested in the company and to see if this was going to be a company event. When I explained I was just inquiring about possibly doing a scavenger hunt in April of 2012, his mood completely CHANGED. He was not very friendly and wasn’t helpful. I was trying to ask a few questions and he was very put off… geez, sorry that I was trying to maybe think ahead and plan early. He had no interest in answering my questions and when he did, he was short in words. Ended up telling him that we are not connecting and obviously he wasn’t needing my business…

My company decided the new interns, myself included, needed to learn teamwork and have time to bond. Mostly happy at an excuse to do fun things on the company’s dime(and forced to do it anyway), we took guesses at what the group event would be. We knew it involved walking, as HR had suggested we wear comfy shoes. Turns out, my company hired this company, Boston Adventures, to lead us on a pretty sweet scavenger hunt! After breaking us up into teams, they gave us all a bag, a new-style polaroid camera(I had no idea they still made these!), and a list of pictures to take, objects to find, and trivia to answer. Most of the places revolved around historical parts of Boston– Paul Revere’s house, Mother Goose’s grave, Old South Hall, etc. — but some were simply fun/random spots, like build-a-bear and a picture of two dogs being walked. Lots of items to find, too, which kept us busy while walking from place to place. At the end, they tallied up points based on the pictures and items each team got, and also gave everyone miniature stuffed lobster toys. I might be a little biased, as my team won the competition and got sweet little trophies, but I really did have a lot of fun and got to know my fellow interns. Apparently, Boston Adventures is available to be hired to arrange scavenger hunts, tours, and other team-building activities, as well as a whole bunch more, according to their website. Can’t comment on the price, obviously, but I imagine it wasn’t too expensive. Definitely worth a look, if you need a group activity planned!
