Went here specifically for chicken and waffles; super glad I did! When we arrived, the grill out front was burning and being prepped for chicken on the bbq. They popped the chicken on, and the place filled with an amazing aroma of chicken cooking. Chicken and waffles were perfectly cooked. Chicken batter light and crispy with no extra grease. Well seasoned, and the right amount of steam escapes when the wing is pulled open. Waffles were light and fluffy inside with a wispy crisp crust. ALLGOOD! Thanks and will return!

First visit, the fish was great. Bacon was terrible and burnt. Grits was bland and I could of made them at home if I wanted that taste. 2nd visit on 9.5.2015 I check online to see what time they open. supposed to open at 7 am. It’s dark in the building and and it’s already 8:30!!! And no one in sight. So we go run an errand and come back and now it’s 9:15. There are workers in there and the door is open. Also has a sign that’s says«returning at 7am». So I opened the door and the lady said Oh we’re closed. I said Oh the website says 7. She gonna come out and get in my face and say«ma’am I just got here we won’t open until another 15 minutes».Not sure what she thought she was going to do all in my face. but I said OK and left… And probably won’t be back. If your hours have changed then say that and update your website! Or stop partying the night before and you can wake up on time!!! I only call it as I see it!!! This is probably why everything in Dorchester is outta business. Because of rude owners! The guy was nice but the woman was rude.

I tried the catfish, mac n cheese, with sweet potato. I have no complaints, the food was done fast, I called ahead and it took less than 20mins. It was also a Thursday morning so I can’t imagine them being that busy. But the staff was accommodating and polite.

Excellent food at great prices. I’ve gone in with family and coworkers on several occasions and Jerome and Derek the owners have always welcomed us with open arms. I’ve mainly stuck to the same three dishes whenever I go which are: the catfish and waffles, gumbo, or chicken and waffles. The catfish is lightly breaded perfectly with just the right amount of spice. While the waffles are extremely light and complimentary to which ever protein you pair them with. Wings are perfectly fried with a good amount of spice and seasonings. I’ve tried to get Jerome’s batter recipe so I could make the waffles at home but he won’t budge, lol. I would recommend this little hole in the wall to anyone which I have. The only knock on the joint is the seating. There’s barely any. But get there at the right time and Jarome will be more than happy to make your dining experience one of a kind.

I support small businesses to the max but I never support bad business. The owner of this place is a crook as far as I’m concerned. I ordered the cajun wings which were mediocre… I liked the sauce but it was still nothing worth buying again. The wait time for about 9 wings was at least 45 minutes. Yes, 45 minutes! On top of that the owner ripped me off and charged me almost $ 15 for 9 wings even though he verbally said they cost around $ 10. I didn’t say anything because I did not have time to argue but I knew then that I would NEVER do business with them again. Like seriously is $ 5 worth losing a customer??? Get it together, Boston’s Big Easy!

The gumbo has never let me down! My daughter cannot get enough of the chicken and waffles. And finally, but most importantly… the coconut cake is better than ma mamma’s!(I’m probably going to get a whoopin’ for saying that.)

A diamond in the rough. Love their fried haddock and mac&cheese. A little pricey for the amount you get. Was pleasantly surprised to know that they have fresh spinach and cook it with garlic and butter, could use a little more seasoning. Everything is fresh and cooked to order. I was offered a WHOLE bottle of spring water, while I waited, which is a nice touch for customers. The biggest challenge is parking, which will prevent me from coming more often… Hey I like convenience and hate people who double park on a busy street. Hope he expands to a larger location with better parking.

I love a good fried catfish, I was a little disappointed with this mediocre meal, the quantity and quality does not match the price. For $ 15 I was served a single filet of catfish which is very misleading because the menu said catfish strips! While nicely seasoned, they could serve two pieces for the price. The vegetables of the day was under seasoned sauteed spinach with garlic and an extreme amount of oil and the corn was stretched out with green and red peppers and this also lacked flavor. Add on my sister’s six chicken wings which were nicely fried but could have had more seasoning, I think I could have saved my $ 30. I must add the prices on the menu and what I was charged didn’t match up either.

This place is definitely a gem. Amazing service coupled with amazing food. Best chicken and waffles in Boston.

I usually don’t like to give new small businesses bad reviews. I’ll give it 2 stars because the owner, Darryl is a really nice guy. But the experience warrants 1 star. I visited the Big Easy about a week ago for lunch with a co-worker who suggested it. I got scrambled eggs, cheese grits, and salmon cakes. With a drink it was priced at $ 13. The pricing is comparable to mid-level restaurants, but the quality does not match the price. Everything was extremely bland. The salmon cakes looked like they were going to have an awesome Cajun spice to it but they were just as bland. Even the grits, which had cheese in it needed salt! I thought that maybe they had an off day and decided to try them again today. I called in an order for chicken and waffles. And I asked what type of maple syrup they have because many restaurants serve imitation maple syrup(i.e. Aunt Jemima’s, Mrs. Butterworths, etc.) which is, in my opinion, disgusting. The woman over the phone tells me tha it’s regular syrup. I asked for the brand and if it’s 100% syrup or grade A or B… anything to let me know what I’m about to get. She mumbles the brand and tells me that she doesn’t have time to go look at the bottle because she has customers. Since she didn’t consider me to be a customer, I cancelled my order. This place is probably great if you have high blood pressure and want avoid salt otherwise I’d skip it.

So after hearing so much about this restaurant I decided to give it a shot when I was in the mood for soul food. at first the $$$$ on Unilocal scared me but apparently I was feeling wealthy that day. So after I finally found the place, it was a lot smaller than I anticipated. There are about 4 seats along the wall so I scrapped my plans to eat in. Especially after an older lady in there started trying to hustle gospel CDs to me… and proceeded to lecture me after I told her I don’t like gospel music and don’t regularly attend church. The wait was long, however I respected the sign that warned customers that everything is fresh and to be patient. I have a few minutes to spare for food that hasn’t been sitting for hours. Sure. I intended to order the fried catfish but because I don’t remember what I said, I won’t blame anyone for receiving fried haddock. The place is definitely over priced, however the portions were generous and enough for 2 servings so I let it go. I paid 22 dollars for my fried haddock, sweet potatoes, potato salad, banana pudding and drink. The fried fish was perfectly seasoned and I loved it. Very delicious. It got kind of soggy in the to go container because of how sealed the container is so they might want to switch up the containers for fried foods. My sides were a huuge disappointment. For one I don’t prefer mashed up sweet potatoes but I can deal if they’re made right. These weren’t very seasoned well with cinnamon or anything else fun like that. Sort of just mashed sweet potato goop. My potato salad was meh. Potato chunks were way too big and it just reminded me of grocery store potato salad. Which is cool if I paid grocery store prices for it… which I didn’t. My fave part of my meal was the banana pudding. Yes. I have a sweets addiction so maybe my standards aren’t the highest but it was blended, and tasty. I might go back to try the chicken and waffles but I’m in no rush. Slades is a better soul food option and if they get to serving chicken and waffles… Good luck

While driving by I saw a sign that read«Big Easy» I was excited to know that a restaurant was located in Boston, MA that served Cajun/Creole cuisine. Long story short, I pulled over and ordered the fried catfish with macaroni and cheese and mash sweet potatoes. A pretty standard soul food entrée. The food looked delish and the sides were plentiful. The catfish was fried to perfection with the right amount of seasoning. This is where the compliments stop. The sweet potatoes were bland. A little cinnamon, brown sugar, butter, and vanilla extract or something else other than baking a potato and scooping it out on a plate would go along way. It was also room temperature. While the cheeses used in the Mac n cheese were a nice combination there was not nearly enough and a little tiny grain of salt to taste the flavor would have made a difference. This was also served room temperature. Overall the food was edible but outside of the catfish it was nothing spectacular or to write back home to Baton Rouge about. The customer service was warm, the food was served fast and the prices are reasonable. These things earned the 4 star rating.

This is a new jewel in the city of Boston. The Big Easy has been open for a couple of months and they are making there way! They are located on Blue Hill Ave across from the Franklin Park Zoo. It is a small restaurant with several seats along a counter at the window. Yummy! The restaurant offers a small but diverse menu of Cajun inspired dishes. I ordered the crab cakes(2 come with the order) entrée which comes with two sides. With it I ordered the dirty rice and sweet potatoes. The crab cakes were not stingy with the crab and they were a good size. They had good flavor. The dirty rice(which the menu says includes pork) was spot on. Just enough spice. The sweet potatoes were decent. They are not the candied variety(my favorite) but decent. They have a variety of cakes, pies, bread pudding and cupcakes which are made by a local baker. The blueberry bread pudding was delicious. Plenty of blueberries. I wanted the sweet potato pie but they were sold out. I was sad but I look forward to going back and giving it a try. I give it a resounding thumbs up!

THIS is what I have been waiting for! The food was delicious. I came to the restaurant after a performance I attended at the Strand Theatre. I was with a huge group, but the staff was very accommodating answering all of our menu questions – with all of our dietary restriction. The inside has a small eating area so we did take our food«To-Go» but if your group is smaller you could eat inside. We were able to order a variety of things of the menu. I had the Chicken wings– which are whole wings fried golden and that comes with two sides. these wings were delicious! The meal comes with your choice of two sides. I chose Macaroni and cheese and sweet potatoes. The Macaroni and cheese was my favorite. I also added collard greens because I wanted to try them and those were great as well too, they weren’t greasy as some greens can be. Other orders in our party were the crab and salmon cakes, those who got those loved those as well. I was able to try a salmon cake and can attest to that too! The kids had fries, steak and the mac and cheese which they enjoyed. My next trip I’ll be having shrimp and grits, bottom line if you in or out of the area this is a place worth the trip.

Located at the former site of ‘De Hot Spot ’ I walk by this location every day on my way to work. Some time ago, I noticed renovation happening inside. The windows said ‘Coming Soon: Café’, as well as signs saying Cajun food and chicken and waffles. Nothing catches my attention more than those combination of words. I’ve eagerly awaited it’s opening ever since. Well, Boston’s Big Easy opened this past weekend(2÷8÷14), and I’m glad it’s here. I stopped in on my lunch break the other day. It’s a small place with a few seats in the window at a counter, a case with cupcakes and a register, and a large window looking into the kitchen. The place is geared towards take out, as there’s maybe 5 – 6 seats at the window. I was greeted warmly upon entering, and handed a menu upon request. My mouth drooled at the sound of étouffée, chicken and waffles, gumbo, and jumbalaya. Unfortunately, the majority of the menu was unavailable since the opening was only three days previous, and all the product had not arrived yet, including the above mentioned dishes. Major let down. With my first choices gone, I spotted shrimp and grits. Any disappointment vanished at seeing that. The price was a tad bit steep at $ 13, but was reasonable. Took my food to go, and left with an enthusiastic ‘Come back soon!’ Upon opening my food, I found seven large shrimp and a nice heap of grits. The shrimp were well cooked and seasoned in Creole seasonings. The grits were creamy. The dish was a bit too oily, but overall, man, it hit the spot. Solid showing for their third day open. I’m going to wait a little before my next visit to make sure the whole menu is available, but I’m excited to see what comes of this place!
