Daoist Gate Wudang Arts

I’ve done one session and seen its master and full-​time students in action several times, including rooftop and Boston Common demonstrations, and it’s clearly the real deal, yet still welcoming and accommodating for beginners. As long as you don’t expect English instructions and have an open mind about what you can achieve, you’ll really enjoy learning authentic martial arts here. Very friendly, smart, and inspiring!

Went in for a little under two months of Xingyi training and plan to go back. Friendly helpful students and Sifu gave me enough material (i’m a slow learner) to work on for a long time. I stopped after a couple months due to my job and other commitments and just recently started my daily practice again.
One of the goals I had before coming in was to reduce stress and I can say that those issues have been solved through practicing Xingyi.

I have to apologize the reason for my action was that I was over whelmed by people who had there own idea on how I should learn daoism the people did try to help me the best of there ability and it is not there fault for the others who were on Facebook although I do think they need to learn to work with people who have learning disabilities better and try to find a way to make the religion and or the ability to become a priest possible hear in the states with some kind of long term learning program. and be more understanding of people finical situations. I will still try to learn daoism on my own some how. sorry for the trouble you will never hear from me again.

Meeting Master Zhou has changed my life. As a dedicated martial artist for over two decades, I am always humbled by Master Zhou’s approach and ability. From the first class I took with him, I knew the Wudang arts were my home. Since meeting Master Zhou, I’ve adjusted my life in so many ways based on his wisdom and the culture that comes from Wudang. These changes have brought numerous benefits to my life and opened me up to be a more accepting and open human being.
When I first met Master Zhou, he spoke little to no english. But now, communication and discussion about technique, philosophy, and methodology are all common place. Additionally, there are a handful of amazing students that train under the Master who give the best pointers, and have the biggest hearts. My time spent with the Daoist Gate Wudang Arts family is always full of treasured moments and fond memories.
I cannot say enough on how important it is for everyone interested in traditional martial arts to stop by and visit Master Zhou. You’ll see, from your first exchange, that his skill is phenomenal, and his willingness to share that ability with his students knows no bounds.

Training under Shifu Zhou Xuan Yun, founder and teacher of Daoist Gate Wudang Arts, for the past 2.5 years has been a welcome experience and a breath of fresh air. His genuine passion for and deep understanding of the martial arts and tai chi is noticed and passed on through his teaching — but be sure to know that learning is a two way process. The more you practice and show your dedication, the more he will teach. The students in the class are very welcoming and helpful, and the group develops a family dynamic, connecting through a common passion for the martial arts. If you are interested in learning truly traditional Chinese Martial Arts this is the place. From the curriculum right down to the very culture of a traditional school, Master Zhou Xuan Yun offers it all.
I have trained in various styles of martial arts trying to find the one that fit just right. While many schools had so much to offer, none seemed to get all the important elements right. Some were either too form oriented and lost the martial aspect of the martial arts. Others went the complete other way and were focused on nothing but «fight, fight, fight,» without regard to the rich culture to be found.
With Master Zhou’s school, I have found an environment wherein both martial and art are fully realized and taught by a Master who truly deserves the title «Shifu.». At the end of the day, I do not feel that this school is merely a hobby or past time-​Master Zhou has made it a fully realized part of my life which has done nothing but brought great benefit to my day to day life.

A hidden gem! I would highly recommend anyone interesting in learning traditional Chinese martial arts to visit and try a class. Master Zhou Xuan Yun is an inspirational teacher and a true expert. It is extremely rare to find an instructor in the United States who literally grew up on Wudang Mountain in China and has ascended to his ranks. Now living in the Boston area, local students have a chance to learn from an authentic master.
Classes are structured to allow beginners and more senior students to be challenged at their own pace. Even a complete beginner will benefit from the warm up alone, comprised of cardio, stretching, and strength building exercises. The actual martial arts forms are from the traditional Wudang style, and are meant to further develop body strength, balance, and control. More advanced practitioners progress to weapons training including Straight Sword or Broadsword.
Besides the actual training, as a student myself, I would say the biggest draw to this school is the welcoming atmosphere. Its a safe, non-​competitive environment where everyone is working towards their personal best. I’ve made new friends and feel like the instructors really care. I try to make every class I can.
