Greater Boston Management

This company is a joke. They own the building next to mine and are in the process of renovating it, and it has become a nightmare for me. Here are just a few of the issues I’ve had with these idiots:
1. They broke the back windshield of my car (there was a clear 4“x2″ square caused by a piece of lumber) and blamed it on the lumber company that delivered the wood and wouldn’t give me their contact info, so I was on my own to get everything fixed.
2. They gutted the place and just filled the backyard with trash but didn’t use a tunnel (like any legitimate company would) so much of the trash ended up on my patio and deck, which left me to clean it up.
3. One of their workers thought it would be okay to use the hand railing on my deck (emphasis on HAND railing) to stand on while trying to strip the siding off their building. When I went outside and told him to get off it, he just gave me attitude like I was being a jerk for not letting him stand on a HAND rail.
4. After the recent snowstorm, I shoveled out a spot for my car and when I went to get lunch, I put a cone there. When I came back, they just threw the cone to the side and took my spot. When I said something to them, they either didn’t understand English or pretended not to (likely the latter).
5. I got the contact information for the foreman on the job and he has been nothing but rude and condescending and even went as far as to physically threaten me.
Stay away from this terrible company.

Zero stars would be better. I have had a dozen places in Boston as a guarantor for two kids over the years… NEVER had such a terrible experience. Actually, never had bad property managers (altho not all are prompt). GBM seems willing to help but is ineffective at correcting things. We ultimately prevailed in court and received rent abatement for FOUR months due to lack of heat in Boston’s worst winter in decades. The court also found GBM unresponsive at removing attic critters. Those issues won the case (they sued US after we walked away from a questionable property and terrible service). It cost us in storage and new deposits, but we prevailed. In addition, they did nothing to prevent electrical limitations, remove snow, provide screens or insulated windows — all required by Mass. law. Beware and document EVERYTHING. So glad they didn’t get another penny. If a property manager makes you happy to pay a lawyer, instead, you know it’s not good.

these guys SUCK! the only reason why i even liked my apt is because someone else owned, rehabbed, and rented it to me. once the property was sold to greater boston management, EVERYTHING went downhill. it’s a 6 unit building and the trash was RARELY every taken out weekly. at one point, in AUGUST, the trash had not gone out for 3 straight weeks in a row. when i called to complain, the company tried to put the responsibility of the trash on the tenants — totally NOT in our lease. when they do work in the building, it’s always with the cheapest materials and doesn’t last for more than a week or two. then it’s broken again. they often don’t come for days when you say something needs to be fixed. and they don’t clean up after themselves so you’re tripping over paint cans and building materials for weeks in the hallways. to anyone that might rent from these guys: i have no idea what you’re paying them for in terms of property management. they do nothing and are a headache and a half.

I would never ever in a million years live in another place managed by this company. I had a girlfriend who lived in one of their apartments and nearly sued them because they didn’t fix the heat in her apartment for over two weeks in the dead of winter. Their porch also doubled as a pigeon roost. I should’ve learned from her mistakes, but I lived in one of their gross apartments last year. We had an adorable family of mice sharing the space with us, but they did not pay any rent. GBM claimed to send a maintenance worker to lay poison and traps a few times, but the mice never dissipated and I never found any dead ones. When our heat broke, they did fix it within a few days. When it broke again, they fixed it again. I think one of their major problems is cutting corners. They never do anything right the first time, probably because of trying to do things as cheaply as possible. Structurally, their buildings are a bit ugly and subpar as well. Paper mache walls, hideous kitchens and bathrooms and (obv) old systems that break at the drop of a hat. Both my place and my ex’s had electric outlets blow out and smoke, just from hair dryers being used in too-​old systems.
This management company doesn’t care about its buildings or tenants, they own half of Boston. Go with a landlord, who might be crazy but at least cares whether or not the building goes up in flames.
