I love: Food delivery straight to my door. I hate: Talking on the phone. To my rescue: GrubHub. So, yeah, I was waiting for the train at State after working a long day at work. Husband was going to the Sox game. I was doing dinner alone. I look up from book, distracted by hunger pangs, and see an MBTA ad. My first thought: «Jesus Fucking H Christ do we need another shitty food delivery service in Boston?» My second thought: «What the hell, I’ll go the website when I get home.» Third thought: «If I was an ignoramus who believed in sky pixies I’d think this was some sort of sign.» I roll in, boot up the ‘puter and type in . I expect it to be like DiningIn– assholes that won’t deliver to JP. I was wrong. And the best part? They set up delivery for my new favorite place to order from: Ghazal on Centre Street in JP. Yeah, I could just call Ghazal up and they’d be lovely and polite on the phone and they’d get my order here in under an hour — but I hate the phone. I hate making nice. GIve me a way to order food with the least amount of human contact possible. Other awesome things: they offset the carbon emissions for every delivery; they don’t charge you for the delivery(restaurants can, but they don’t); if you tell a friend they’ll send said friend a $ 10 gift card. There are only 14 places that will trek out to JP right now(my old address in the South End garners 152 places willing to deliver) but I hold out hope that one day, in the not too far future, restaurants get over themselves and realize they could make bank if they’d start delivering to JP. But that ain’t GrubHub’s fault. I’m just happy GrubHub has included us at all.
