Son of a… This place is now know as clay pot café. And it sucks. Don’t look at the average rating. Look at recent ratings. I assumed it just got a name change. Nope. All new ownership it would seem. Don’t waste your time. Seriously. DON’T!

King Fung Garden is a real hole in the wall. My friend had her 21st birthday dinner here –BYOB makes it a very popular for Boston area college students) — and we literally took over the whole place(a group of customers walked in, saw us, and promptly walked right out). Food was very average; the restaurant itself was a little bit understaffed, but it might have been that they just weren’t expecting so many of us to show up. Our server was unbelievably nice, though(frankly not always a given at Chinese restaurants), so I’m still giving them three stars.

This place is no longer there and is replaced by a different restaurant. The food was so bad that its not even worth trying to remember the name. I ordered a take out for chicken chow mein and it was by far the worst chow mein I’ve ever eaten in my life. I didn’t know chow meins were supposed to be like this in the first place. Basically, it was a mash up of some hard thin noodles, tasted fried and white chicken meat just boiled and with some sauce. Some boiled broccoli and that’s it. It didn’t have any taste. I am never going here.

This place looks ghetto. its like they didn’t try at all to make this place look aesthetically pleasing and instead put all their attention into making the food… which was surprisingly really good. my friend and I had no idea what to pick because the menu looked like crap. but on the wall it had some gibberish about a peking duck 3 course meal for $ 40 bucks and we were like why not… the waiter said it would be around a 45 minute wait so we pretty much had 45 minutes to brew what we had just done. Did we just order a $ 403 course meal at some restaurant that could cause an eyesore just by looking at it? How would it turn out? Boy were we surprised. all 3 dishes were duck based. which was pretty surprising. I thought the main one would be duck and the other two would be some random filler but we got a a main duck course, some cooked veggies but also with duck, and some duck soup. All 3 were good. the peking duck 3 course meal is NOT for a party of 2. I think youre safe with 3 – 4 people on this order lol. in addition to the 3 course meal, we got scallion pancakes. The scallion pancakes were definitely the best ive had in boston. that dish is better than the same ones from tje big names like dumpling café and Taiwan café. Its more fluffy and thicker than im used to but it was definitely very tasty. pleasantly surprised. although this place could really use a makeover. luckily I came here mainly for the food

We were lured in by it’s Unilocal reputation of being a «hidden gem», «hole in the wall» kind of place. Seriously, this place should remain hidden in the hole. This was SO gross, half way through our meal, we heard pitter-patter on the roof, which sounds like rain or… RATSRUNNINGACROSSTHECEILING!!! They were scurring around up there through out the rest of the meal, I got so grossed out and was afraid that one of them will fall through the ceiling tiles that I lost my appetite, and we tailed out of there. Not only did the rat incident turned us off, the tables were slanted, and the food itself wasn’t anything worth talking about either. Bland, overcooked shanghai noodle, and overcooked pieces of beef. The hot & sour soup was good though.

Went here while exploring around south station with my brother. When you first walk in the décor is startling lacking. But based on the Unilocal reviews we stayed and boy am I glad we did. What it lacks in décor it more then makes up for with deliciousness. It’s Chinese food at its finest. Extremely cheap, generous portions that are fresh and full of flavor. I got the egg drop soup(best I’ve ever had!) my brother got hot and sour which was also really good. We then split the vegetable dumplings which were amazing. For our main courses I got the Szechuan noodles and my brother got the bean curd, both were unbelievable! I highly recommend this place! If your hungry for Asian around south station do yourself an favor and check out King Fung Garden!

A solid four stars for group/family eating. Since it’s not on the main Washington/Beach Street drag of Chinatown, there is rarely a wait(I’ve never had to wait for a table, but I’m sure someone has at some point). The food is moderately priced and moderately filling. With a group of five tonight, we ordered five entrees plus soup and dumplings, and we came away quite satisfied. Some dishes that are always great: chinese broccoli in garlic sauce. Eggplant with deep-fried bean curd. Scallion pancakes. Fun fact: this restaurant is BYOB and doesn’t charge any kind of corkage fee as far as I know. So eat, drink, and be merry, for around $ 10 each(plus tip). It’s not the best Chinese food in the world, but it’s pretty good and the price is right.

Just okay. It’s a tiny space, and when I went there was just one dude on a laptop at one of the larger tables who seemed to be running the whole show. I got a beef and broccoli entrée with rice, which totaled ~$ 12, too much for a Chinatown meal! Although the portions were worth two meals, so perhaps it’s not exorbitant. Other restaurants nearby have a larger selection of rice and stirfry combinations – had I been more decisive while perusing the neighboring options I could’ve gotten the same food for cheaper. The food itself was fine, tasty but not mind-blowing. I was impressed that it stayed toasty warm in its to-go containers despite a foot journey through a thunderstorm. My only concern when eating in Chinatowns across the country is cleanliness. While I hesitate to attribute it to my dinner from King Fung, my stomach felt queasy the day after…

Finally ventured into Chinatown for dinner with my husband after seeing a movie at the Boston Common theater. I looked places up quickly on Unilocal on my phone and just went with this one. While it looked sketchy from the outside(and kinda was inside too!), we had a great meal. It is by far the most«hole in the wall» place I have ever been to. In fact, in order for my husband to sit in the booth, the waiter had to pull the table out for him to slide in. It was very tight. This place is probably breaking like 10 fire codes, but whatever. Based on Unilocal recommendations, we got scallion pie. It really was amazing. It was just the right amount of crispy and thick. Their crab rangoons were also excellent! Very different. More crabby than the usual ones you get, with some extra fun fillings — like scallion, I believe. We also got chow mein noodles(I believe they were chow mein). They were very thick, a wonderful consistency and delicious. On top of that we got the house fried rice(excellent and huge), and beef with peppers and onions(spicy and yummy.) We totally over ordered, but the total cost was only $ 36! We had enough leftovers for a whole ‘nother dinner portion at home. Was still great leftover two days later. They also gave us giant glasses of water that was nice and cold. Like, real cold. :) Tea is more of a jasmine tea and yummy. Waiter was very nice. He handled the whole place and it was packed. Would def go back!

This place is awesome. A sketchy-looking hole-in-the-wall with some of the best, freshest tasting food to be found in C-town. The beef & peppers had my colleagues inquiring when I got it back to my desk. I was happy to share the information — but not the food.

I don’t know how authentic the food is, but I also don’t really care. My wife and I came with a big group, had a ton of food, and paid something like $ 35 for the both of us, which included tax and tip. The Peking duck was great — first they bring out the meat, then stir fry with the smaller pieces, and finally soup. Our table had two orders of scallion pancakes, and these were memorably good too. It’s BYOB, but that’s a selling point for me. It is a bit crowded inside when full — if you’re in a chair that’s backed up to another table, the waiter will be bugging you often to move. But I’ll be back for sure.

I love King Fung. This is some of the best authentic Chinese food in Boston. The place itself is a little run down, but they just reupholstered the booths so I think they’re working on the look of the place. Don’t come expecting a super nice restaurant though… it’s tiny(5 tables) and there isn’t much ambiance in the white walls, fluorescent-light lit dining room. I like this place for two reasons: 1) every food item that I have tried here is fantastic. I’m a discerning Chinese food eater, and this stuff is some of the freshest and most delicious that I’ve had. 2) King Fung is BYOB, so it’s nice to come in with some beers with some coworkers and just have a fun night at King Fung. It helps a lot that the food is so good. I know that the place looks kind of sketchy from the outside, but please give King Fung a chance… you won’t regret it!

Living a block from Chinatown, I’ve had the pleasure of sampling many restaurants in the neighborhood, but none have satisfied me as consistently as New King Fung Garden. I’ve been a carry-out gal, not dine in. Every time I’ve called in an order it is always ready for pickup in 10 – 15 minutes. Going to a party and need to bring a dish along? While I know it is somewhat embarrassing to rave about Crab Rangoon when talking about Chinatown(being an American dish and all), these are AMAZING. At 8 for $ 6.50 they are a perfect crisp bundle of ooey delicious filling. Their scallion pies are delightful as well. At some other places in Chinatown I’ve found these to be over-cooked and too crisp to even chew properly. Here, they’re perfect and delicious. I’ve tried a few of the Chow Foon dishes(Beef, Pepper & Onion as well as Singapore– both very good). The meat dishes are equally fantastic(the classic General Tso’s Chicken & the Pork with Pepper & Onions both pop to mind.) Fast, convenient, and consistently delicious. That is what makes this my favorite carry-out in Chinatown.

The Amazing Chicken dish was amazing. The chicken was tender in a dark flavorful sauce. The red pepper flakes gave it just enough kick but again gave it flavor and not just hot. The veggies were fresh and krisp and cooked to perfection. Eggplant and tofu was also krispy and delic. It was hot there and I really wanted to open the door to the outside and felt a relief when I stepped out in the cool air. Since the space is small the temp always seems to be up or down but its worth it since the food is so yummy. Small hole in the wall place always seems to have the best home cooked food. Oh Yum

Wow… they have the BESTSCALLIONPANCAKES in Boston!(!!!) *salivates* I’m Chinese so I can make this claim. :) Just an awesome hole-in-the-wall joint. Super small and a bit ghetto, but their food is flavorful and authentic. WIN! I will return and review their critically-acclaimed duck that all these Unilocalers are raving about. please don’t disappoint new king!

First off, I want to say that King Fung was better with the old management, however, it still is my favorite Chinese restaurant, anywhere. Boston, New York,(haven’t been to China!), you name it, King Fung does it better. I don’t know how we found this place, but I’m really glad that we did. scallion pancakes, shanghai chow mein, wonton soup, yang chow fried rice, han sue lamb, all among my favorites. Want to know the best part? The prices are ROCKBOTTOM. You know, I’m kinda tempted to not write this review, I feel like this should be my own little secret. I love it so much, I don’t want to share. Pass the jasmine tea, please.

This is the most delicious hole in the wall Chinese place I have EVER been to! So this past Friday was the night that I got to meet m’lady’s friends from school. I was nervous and anxious to meet them. We started at their apartment with drinks, chatting a little and after a while we made it over to NKFG. We walk in and this place looks like a closet, a hole in the wall. It’s packed(which was a good sign) but it was so tiny and run down I got irked– big time; I immediately began thinking of ways to get out of here, «I had Chinese last night, I’m allergic to MSG, my grandpa fought in WW2» but I realized that it was important that I get to know her friends so I put my cleanliness OCD behind me and sat down. Her friends were amped to eat at this place(several returning from previous times) and we looked through the menu. Basic Chinese food and pretty reasonable prices. We got shrimp and cashew and veggie lomein– everyone ordered whatever; from tofu and broccoli, to beef, chicken, scallion pancakes, spring roles and dumplings. Our table looked like Chinese New Year. The food was INCREDIBLE. It was hot, it was fresh, it was delicious. When the bill came, I got nervous, surely multiple entrees for 9 people will cost quite a bit, right? WRONG– our bill was about $ 109! What a great place! Next time we come, we’re going to try the duck. Apparently you have to order it 24 hours in advance, and, judging by the multiple reviews on just the duck alone, it seems like something awesome to try. People, do not judge this place by the way it looks. Sit down, order. You will not be disappointed.

Finding out about the awesomeness of this place is like being let into a secret only a few people know about. A private, members-only kind of secret that is whispered from ear to ear with a strange handshake and a look over your shoulder to make sure no-one is eavesdropping. If you weren’t looking for New King Fung Garden, you wouldn’t find it. And if you did happen to stumble across it, you would probably look at the tiny interior, bright lights, red vinyl booths patched up with grey duct tape, turn around and close the door quietly behind you hoping to leave before anyone noticed you were there. But, should you actually find the place and should you decide to stay, you will be in for a treat. I didn’t put enough forethought into this visit to order the duck 24 hours in advance, so I ordered from the menu. My companions err on the side on non-adventurous dining, so our order was a mix of safe, not so venturesome choices. Everything we ordered was quite delightful, the broccoli in the beef and broccoli was the freshest I have ever seen, the spicy shrimp special was gorgeous, but the absolute star of the show in my opinion were the crab rangoons. I know, I know, it surprised me too. The«foodies» out there are turning their noses up at me now. Les Amis d’Escoffier are swearing at me in French. C’est impossible, anglais fou! How can an American-in-origin, deep-fried cream cheese puff be my favourite thing there? Don’t know how, but trust me they were. The flavour was exquisite, the filling was light, the pastry crisp. They literally melted in my mouth. The portions were large and the bill was small — what more could anyone ask for? Save me a seat I’m coming back for the duck!

Hole in the wall restaurant in Chinatown. There are only 4 booths/tables inside. The interior is pretty hideous, think red vinyl benches and harsh overhead lighting, while the manager is doing his book keeping on his laptop at the table next to you. But then again, we came here for the food. My friend was born and raised in Bejing and says this Peking Duck is about as close as you’re going to get to the real thing. 24 hour advance notice is required for the three course peking duck meal. It is enough food to serve 3 – 4 people. We started with the scallion pancakes, which sort of remind me of German potato pancakes, crispy on the outside and wonderful savory flavor, but pretty greasy. The first course is the de-boned duck with chinese pancakes and hoisin barbeque sauce. You simply fill the pancake with the shredded duck meat, throw some sauce on it, roll it up and enjoy. Delicious! Second course is the dark duck meat, shredded and stir fried with sprouts and veggies. Also wonderful flavor. By the time the third course was served, we were so full that most of the soup went back. The third course is just hot broth made from the duck bones with rice noodles and tofu. The price for the three course duck meal is only $ 38. Considering it feeds four people that’s great. They also have limited parking in the front.

I am on a very important mission. I want to find the greatest scallion pancakes in Boston. I tried GDH(like 6 times) and I must say their sp’s are amazing. After a little research I discovered that NKFG also boasts some pretty badass scallion pancakes as well. I had read that this place was small but I was not prepared for how small. Or how dirty. Or how small. Or how dirty. It was really small and dirty. I walked in at 8pm on a Monday night. There were two other diners in the restaurant and when they heard me order the scallion pancakes they got all excited. «So awesome dude. So awesome.» For a moment I thought we were going to high-five and chest bump but, alas, it didn’t happen. They talked to me about their dinner for a little while and then started talking about their jobs and I got bored and stopped paying attention. I don’t know if it was the bro’d out conversation or if these people really are that fast but my scallion pie(no pancakes here) and wonton soup were in front of me in minutes. It was really freaking tasty. And beyond cheap. I definitely want to come back for the legendary duck that everyone raves about. Plus, anywhere where I can bring my own booze is A-OK in my book. The only problem will be finding someone to come back with who doesn’t really care about cleanliness.
