This review is a couple of weeks late(it’s been been busy at home and work). Anyway, I had a week of work in the Boston area. I’ve been to Boston many times before and have been to the North End just about every time I come because the Italian food is the best I’ve had and Maurizios is high on par with their many rivals. I’ve been to Mama Maria’s, Giacomo’s, Lucca, and Strega on previous visits. While I remember them all being very good, some being excellent… this is my first time reviewing a restaurant. I came on a Thursday evening. The place is a bit further down Hanover, and it wasn’t tremendously packed as some of these restaurants can be. There were maybe two other parties when I came in, but then I realized they had a downstairs room where other people came up from after finishing their meal. I was quickly and politely shown a table for one. The waiter gave me the daily specials, and the burrata(arugula, fresh mozzarella, figs, prosciutto, and balsamic) was huge and delicious. After going back-and-forth through the menu, I finally decided on the black fettuccine with fresh and smoke salmon. I opted for a glass of a red blend… yeah I usually pair a seafood dish with a white, but was really craving a red which actually went really well with the entrée. The salmon was plentiful and delicious, but since I polished off the huge appetizer in the burrata… I could only eat about 1⁄3 of the pasta and didn’t have any space for dessert(well almost no space). Fortunately I was staying at a hotel with a fridge and microwave so I had a better than usual breakfast the next morning. Bonus… they also have a Unilocal deal too. Great service and great food here.

Probably the worst restaurant in the north end. Ordered sage gnocchi and eggplant appetizer. The others on my table ordered some pasta with cream-based sauces — all of them were so heavy we couldn’t eat more than 4 bites. Actually felt like we were sick afterwards with the overwhelming density and cream in the dish. Gnocchi was way over cooked. Eggplant app had seriously no flavor. $ 120 down the drain, wait in line at Carmelina’s over going here!

We’ve been to here 3 times in the past month and have tried a different fish each visit. We have never been anything but absolutely delighted. Highly recommend the eggplant rolatini appetizer. My husband loved the seafood risotto. Everything is very fresh with distinct flavors.

Walked around the north end looking for an Italian dinner and across the street from one of the places with the line out the door we found Maurizio’s with plenty of open tables. We were seated immediately by friendly and considerate staff, who served fluffy bread and olive oil with a kick of sliced jalapeños. Our appetizer of sautéed shrimp had an amazing lemony white wine sauce and the bruchetta was heaping with peppers and tomatoes. The quantity and the quality of the mains were impressive. The gnocchi were creamy and dense, and the chef was able to make our seafood dish extra spicy. The house wine was delicious and the facilities were cozy but clean. We will definitely recommend Maurizio’s to our friends who visit Boston.

North end. North end. This is where the hidden gems are found. This is the second time I visit Maurizios and I had great experiences both times. Let’s put it this way: I will choose Maurizios over that 1 hour line of Giacomo’s, a hundred times. This time we had: Calamari Fritti. Can’t go wrong with this app! Black Ink Fettuccine with smoked & fresh salmon. Superb! Highly recommend! They put both smoked and fresh salmon in the pasta which makes the dish really special. Fettuccine Carbonara. For those carbonara fans like myself, this Fettuccine Carbonara is as good as it can get! They use diced ham(I think it’s ham?) rather than small pieces of bacon we usually get from some other places. This gives the dish another level of flavor since the juice of the meat also goes into the sauce. This is my first Unilocal review. So, take a grain of salt, if you want.

Great service here for sure! The food is authentic and not too pricey if you use their $ 10 for $ 20 coupon. I had the Mascarpone Gnocchi and the Osso Bucco. For starters I had a italian soup and all of them were relish.

Had the Calamari as an appetizer… fresh, delicious and more than I expected. My entrée, the Ossobucco; braised veal shank in a lentil stew… was fabulous… literally melts in your mouth!

Delicious food! Also very kind and quick service. Simple tables, simple plastic physical menu, but it’s not too basic or informal. Hate the bright red/orange walls, but I do like the rest of the modern artwork they showcase of local artists. Tiny upstairs, with about 10 more tables with some more elbow room down a narrow spiral staircase. Not handicap accessible to bathrooms. Nice cocktails for only $ 10. Sage gnocchi was interesting and tasty. Frutti di mare was good, plenty of seafood pieces. Both were big portions without being ridiculous. End of Hanover Street restaurant row, but worth the little further walk!

My friends and I came to Maurizio’s on the recommendation of a local. We made reservations — we weren’t sure how crowded it would be on a Saturday night. But when we arrived for our reservation, the restaurant was empty except one couple. The restaurant itself is very tiny but was clean and had modern decoration. We were promptly greeted and seated. We decided on beverages — they only serve whole bottles or half bottles of wine(no single glasses). It was a little strange having 2 servers, 1 busboy, the hostess, and 2 cooks in such a tiny restaurant — all just standing around while we looked over the menu and then waited for our food. But our food was made fresh and came out piping hot. I ordered the rigatoni with vegetables. It was very tasty and a good portion. The price was a little steep but it is the North End. Overall, the meal was enjoyable and the food good but with so many good places to eat in the North End, I don’t know if this would be my #1.

Don’t want to wait in line at Giacommo’s or Panza’s? Then come on over to Maurizios. They’re on the edge of the busy parts of Hanover Street, so there’s usually not a copious amount of traffic. They have additional seating in the basement, which means you’ll have zero phone signal and have to actually talk to each other. Win-win! I recommend the malloreddus alla campidanse(pasta w/sausage & lamb) linguine ai frutti di marre(seafood pasta). Both had huge portions(we were starving and had to get a carry-away box for both dishes) and taste great! To sweeten the deal, they also have a Unilocal deal that knocks $ 10 off your bill!

Went there with a friend, after trying a thousand of other places ok I’m exaggerating but we didn’t expect Boston to be so crowded ;) and we were trying to have a table around 6:30pm !! In other places we had to wait outside to have a feedback on whether or not we could have a table for 2!!! At Maurizio’s they were very nice(nice welcome not like previous ones) But come early as it is crowded after 8pm We had an amazing gnocchi and a lasagna it was delicious :))) I highly recommend the gnocchi perfectly cooked :) Don’t hesitate to you Unilocal voucher :) The waiter speaks a very good French and he is soooo kind Thank you(we are full, served on good quantity)

There was a 1.5 hour wait on a Saturday night for Giacomo’s a block away. Fugetaboutit. Stumbled across this place flying solo and got a table immediately. Asked for and received the complimentary bruschetta: 3 huge pieces of crunchy bread with heaping amounts of tomato and balsamic; Not super flavored, but just ok(it was free, so I can’t really complain…). Unbelievably good Burrata app with greens, balsamic, and sweet figs. Nom, Nom! It was a huge piece of cheese! Try it. For my entre, I ordered the Salmon Ripieno with Risotto and couldn’t finish it off. Expect a 20+ minute wait because it is baked fresh. Risotto was creamy, and the red sauce had nice flavor. My server was busting it, but he was very slow and didn’t do a good job overall. 3.5 stars rounded up to 4 because of no wait on a Saturday night. Solid food though.

What a gem in the north end! There certainly is no shortage of Italian food in Boston, but this is one of the best we tried. It’s a very small and intimate space, but the service is friendly and the management is helpful. We got bruschetta for an app. It was fresh and delicious. I really liked the addition of scallions. The real star was my entrée. I got a seafood risotto special. It had a very generous portion of muscles, clams, and shrimp atop a saffron risotto. The dish was so flavorful! Loved it! Next trip to Boston I will definitely be back for my Italian fix.

The food wasn’t bad but it wasn’t great either. Given the price I would have expected more. Taking advantage of the sign on the door, our group started with the Bruschetta. It was okay — the flavors were good but the bread was a little too hard for my taste. On the recommendation of the waiter, I got the Malloreddus Alla Campidanese. Honestly I don’t really know what the hype was. It was okay but it was really nothing more special than red sauce, pasta, and sausage. Based on that alone I would have given this place 2 stars because the quality doesn’t warrant the price. But I ended up trying some of my boyfriend’s Fettuccine Alla Carbonara which was significantly better, though a bit heavy. Overall I likely would not come back — there are too many good places in the North End to come back to some place I didn’t think was worth it.

Came here on a Sunday night with both of my roommates. The spot was quiet and intimate with a couple people filling the space. It gave us a pleasant almost romantic vibe so definitely off to a good start. We were handed menues fairly quickly and left quietly to make our choices. Luckily, we three girls take a while to look over the many menu choices, bouncing back and forth as the waiter took his time checking in on our order status, completely skipping asking for drinks besides water, wine or appetizers. We ordered a bruchetta for the table which came in three large slices of bread, generously lathered in tomatoes and an olive tapenade over greens. perfect portion for the three of us. Bread was hearty. One roomate M, being a red meat vegetarian ordered the Sogliola Alla Parmigiana which smelled delicious, lightly breaded and a medium sized portion. It was declare good, but nothing special. Roommate A ordered the Linguine Ai Frutti Di Mare which came in a humongous bowl decked out with copious amounts of seafruits. Even with the largest eyes, she was only able to make a dent into this dish. It easily could feed three. I myself ordered the Fettucini Carbonara which came is a lovely healthy size and a scrumptious creamy egg sauce. I believe I won as the pancetta was absolutely melt in your mouth. With my food I had a glass of Chardonnay, probably the only one that you are able to order by the glass in this establishment. It was decent not too dry or sweet, however I had to call after the waiter to order it and it was plumped down next to my food as if it were a coke. All in all the meal was decent, nothing special, well priced for being able to take most dishes home for a second helping yet the service was a bit lackluster. As we were the last table of the day our server decided to begin fraternizing with us; a nice person, however, I feel it a bit too casual for inviting himself into the conversation. All in all it was definitely a craving crusher for me and will come back for a casual simple meal but nothing I will recommend to my die hard italian lovers

You really can’t go wrong in the North End. According to Maurizios’ menu, the food here is a modern spin on Sicilian cuisine. To be honest, the menu features your typical Italian dishes IMO. Don’t get me wrong, the food here is delicious! I would recommend sitting downstairs, which feels like you are dining in some cave on the rocky coast of Italy. Appealing right? Ordered the burrata appetizer with warm figs(uh, yes!) and the seafood risotto(special). We also tried a Sicilian wine(forgot the name) that has its own story and which actually tasted more like fruit juice than booze.

Maurizio’s is cool because –you can make reservations –you can pay by card This is very different from many of the other restaurants in the North End area, which are exclusively walk in, and for some reason still don’t offer patrons the ability to pay with anything other than cash. The ambiance in Maurizio’s is nice, and the staff work really hard. The food is a little pricey, but it’s good on the whole. The portions are actually really big, so watch out. There is a limited selection of wine, but the pasta’s are really quite solid. I recommend the salmone pasta, or the fruit de mare pasta(has many different kinds of seafood, includuing squid, clams, octopus, etc.)

Believe the good reviews. A lot of the Italian restaurants in the North End of Boston have televisions at the bar, have plain white walls, and appear fancy(Americanized). I want to feel as though I am in Italy, Sardinia, or Sicily… and that is what Maurizio’s provides. Maurizio’s is a very vibrant, cozy, authentic Sardinian restaurant. They were very accommodating(and it was Valentine’s Day). They were even willing to make«gnocchi carbonara» for us, which was not on the menu. Lots of garlic and lots of salt and pepper… and that’s how it should be(was not over powering). I was very impressed with Maurizio’s and you will be too.
