With the New Curator Jose Luis, this gallery finally has a new chance to show some excellent work. With his interest in performance art, new media, and social concerns. The work is great and so are his ideas. The space also offers great music and other events there as well. Their staff is very well knowledged and high spirited. Being part of the BCA, they have great connections in the boston and surrounding area. This is one of the hidden gems in the south end, and I wish it got more traffic. I enjoy going here more than the Gallery Strip by harrison ave.

The floors above this gallery contain studio space for local artists, subsidized by the city. As a result, the Mills Gallery exhibits work by contemporary local artists, many of whom are not exhibited elsewhere. Compared to other galleries in the neighborhood, the art here at times seems undercooked. That said, the work exhibited tends to focus on contemporary social or political topics. Do stop in if you’re in the area, before a show at any of the nearby theatres, or after brunch at the Beehive or Aquitaine.

Classy insanity serving wine and cheese. It’s a Boston artist hideaway. Walking into the blinding white are strange exhibitions– two men pitching a bed tent with their cat. A painting proposal that asks us to meet everyday until neither of us can or wants to. Sparse and small, it gains points by being borderline crazy. Artists crowd around the projected images and talk about everything other than art. And every third person wears chunky eyeglass frames. Do artist aficionado’s have bad eyesight? Highlights: «‘Free Parking’; a visual in the style of a first-person shooter. The viewer watches through a windshield as the car parks over and over again in a Sams shopping lot. «Suspension of Disbelief» stories about driving published in the auto section of different newspapers. Go here after a trip to the Beehive. It’s next door and all the art makes sense after a glass.
