My Stylist Marcus

Looking for an organic perm and came across Marcus’ website. He informed me that the website is out of date and the location advertised that I was interested in going to was no longer open and that he also no longer uses the perm advertised (maybe it’s time to update the website?). I was still interested in the perm even if I had to go to Boston, so tried to ask several questions, ’cause seriously who spends $ 450 on a perm (what the website says for my length of hair) without asking a few question? Marcus answered 1.5 questions in about 32 seconds and told me he was in Florida and hung up on me! Not «Hey, I’m out of pocket right now. Can I call you back and answer your questions at a better time.» Completely RUDE! Marcus will not be my stylist anytime soon.

Wow. Walked in to ask about the Organic hair color system they use, and to see the salon. «Marcus» bit my head off, rattling off names in the treatment product line and was really annoyed to have to answer a question. Salon was shabby, only one client in a chair. Prices online look outrageous. so they don’t invest any of that in salon look or comfort.

Words cannot describe how awesome Marcus made my hair color! He’s the best colorist, they’re not all created equal.

I was going to a salon a few blocks from my condo. They were just ok, but when they relocated, I didn’t follow. I began looking for salons that used organic, cruelty free hair color, and I found Marcus. What a fantastic experience. Marcus is so knowledgeable and pleasant! He gave me a red color that flatters my skin tone and a cut that’s adorable. I can’t wait to go back!

I really enjoy going to see Marcus and I love the cuts and highlights he gives. I originally met Marcus from a Bloomspot and have been going back since 2011. His cuts and color last a long time, unlike at with other stylists who give a a good cut but it doesn’t last long. I appreciate the time he spends counseling with me for my needs before going into the styling process. A great process every time.

I have been seeing Marcus for about a year now and I adore him. When I first arrived in his chair I had been bouncing around to different stylists for 6 months trying to find a good one after relocating and not having much luck. Which Marcus very gently pointed out when he gave his recommendations on how to tweak my color and cut so that it actually suited my face and coloring. I have always wished I could find a stylist who took those things into account and I am so glad to have finally found one! I have also done a Keratin treatment with Marcus which turned out great and recently he suggested I go from blonde to red which I absolutely love! And to know that all the color and products (even the Keratin!) are totally safe is huge to me. And to top it all off, Marcus is such a great person. I look forward to coming to hang out with him and then I get to leave looking fabulous!

I went to Marcus for a Keratin treatment prior to my daughter’s wedding. I had initially purchased a «groupon» from Rue la la for $ 175. Marcus immediately contacted me to say he would not honor that price (that should have been my first Red Flag!) but would do it for $ 225. But it was still a good price, so I kept the appointment. My previous experience with Keratin over a year ago was sleek, soft, shiny, silky hair for the next six months. Marcus has many good reasons for using only organic products; unfortunately, the organic Keratin treatment did not work at all; my hair looked no different after the first washing than it did before the treatment (!). It was costly and time-​consuming and now I have to repeat (and pay for) the process all over again with another stylist who does the traditional Keratin treatment. I let Marcus know about it and requested a refund stating that I felt taken advantage of; he initially wanted me to drive back to Boston to «inspect» my hair which I was willing to do; then he decided he would have to blow dry it himself to decide if he wanted to repeat the organic treatment. I told him I don’t want to waste the time to repeat a process that didn’t work; I just want to get it done elsewhere with non-​organic product. He then sent a snarki message revealing how «insulted» he felt when I admitted I felt taken advantage of. At that point, I decided I never want to deal with him again and will absorb the loss myself. This was a total ripoff; go elsewhere!

I’ve been going to Marcus for years. I followed him from his previous salon a few doors down on Newbury Street. Marcus has developed a wonderful set of colors for me that change a bit as the seasons change. My cut is me, easy going and easy to care for. Marcus doesn’t try to make me into something I’m not.
He is always exploring the latest products and introducing me to the ones that work. Most recently he used an organic color that has almost no smell.
My daughter goes to Marcus too and has come out with a variety of edgy cuts that suit her well.

Marcus is amazing!
Not only does he have an incredible eye for determining the perfect cut and color but he also listens. That is, he listens to determine the perfect cut and color to suit my lifestyle. He’s realistic and honest about what works for me, as well as about what may work better or be worse. His level of experience coupled with his incredible talent are a dream come true.

I highly recommend Marcus. He has years of experience and will work to find the best color and cut for you. He is extremely personable and easy to talk to. I always get lots of compliments on my hair color when I walk out of the salon.
