Paula Zerfoss, LICSW

Personally, I have seeked individual therapy for dealing with a loss of a loved one. Going into this I was very pessimistic when my own therapist suggested to seek options for my relationship. My boyfriend and I have been together for about a decade, with a turbulent few years. For us we were repeating the same patterns and unsure of our future together. We desperately needed a third party professional to step in. EFT was a new concept to me. Paula was instrumental in saving our relationship. We learned so much about each other through her guided sessions and found the tools to maintain a positive, healthy relationship. In all honesty, I would not be writing this if we had not met Paula. Our relationship is the best it’s been in the past 5 years.

I know I speak for my husband as well as for myself when I say that Paula Zerfoss saved our marriage. We had been to other couples therapists and, while it was nice to have 50 minutes a week of «safe space» where we could talk about what was bothering us, we didn’t feel like we were making real progress. Then we found Paula. She offered the same safe space, but we finally felt like we were getting somewhere — therapy was work and we embraced it. We are happier and more content as a couple and as individuals now than we have ever been, and feel like we are truly in a meaningful and balanced partnership. Paula helped us develop the tools we need to broach difficult subjects, disagree constructively, etc. I know I’m gushing, and believe me, therapy is hard and uncomfortable, but I really felt like Paula’s brand of emotionally focused therapy worked for us. And we both appreciated Paula’s matter of fact and pointed approach. She didn’t let either of us off the hook. I cannot recommend her more highly.

Encouraging, supportive, understanding, direct and not there to solve our relationship issues for us, but to help teach healthy communication skills to us, so that we can better our relationship for ourselves. Her space is inviting & comfortable, optimal for expressing/​sharing our feelings openly. Paula also shares important insights with us, to help understand how positive communication works best, as well as negative habits avoid, along with the reasons why. What was most important during each and every session, and what Paula always reminded us of was that the relationship was the client and not our individual selves. Thank you Paula! Matt and Andrea

Wasn’t really sure what to expect with EFT, but it has been instrumental in breaking down the unforeseen barriers between my partner and me. We have both flourished after sessions with Paula, not only due to the EFT techniques, but also through her nurturing care and consideration that is part and parcel to the emotionally-​focused therapy.
