Pearle Vision

I am such a fan of Dr Mamber and the vision practice on the bottom floor of this Pearle Vision. She is friendly, patient, thorough and efficient. It’s really easy to book appointments online and they also offer later hours certain days of the week. I’ve also really appreciated how patient-​centric they are. For example, the eye exam prices are very reasonable (even without insurance) and they offer 3 months free contact lenses included in the eye exam price.

I got my eyes checked there a couple years ago. 1. I was charged a $ 120 fee, still got the bank statement from that charge and 2. They also charged my insurance, why do you need my insurance card if you already charged my credit card. I was given a prescription and informed that I needed to get glasses (hardly ever wore them), now fast forward a few years, I get an exam somewhere else and my insurance was the only thing requested and the dr asked me ‘who told you you needed glasses?’

I have gone to this Pearl Vision twice. The first time I ordered 6 months worth of contact lenses. After I paid for the lenses, I received a phone call letting me know that the sales person who sold me the contact lenses made a mistake in the pricing. The manager apologized and offered me 10% off the cost of the lenses. He explained that the sales person was new.
Today I went back to the store to order more lenses. The same sales person helped me. I asked her at least 3 times if the price she was quoting was the correct price. She said yes. I left the store and once again got a call from the manager letting me know that she once again charged me the incorrect price.
I told the manager that it was really terrible customer service. He could of cared less. He told me «I should have known from the last time.» I am not 100% sure what he meant by this. I am assuming he meant that I should have known that the particular sales person who helped me is incapable of quoting a correct price so I should not be surprised or annoyed that once again they are calling to let me know the lenses are more expensive.
To consistently miss quote prices and the call the customer and ask for more money is completely unacceptable.
I cancelled my order and will take my business to one of the many other vision stores in Boston.

ROOOAR!!! My bear-​vision was just terrible, catching fish and watching the Bruins had become a complete struggle. Its been hard finding an eye doctor that was both affordable and bear friendly, but luckily i stumbled upon this gem right near the Garden! ROAR!
No one was scared away to help me, and I received top notch service. The doctor was calm and friendly and very knowledgeable, she tested my vision and got me to my old bear-​self. Especially lucky for me — their glasses selection was great and even big olé me had plenty to choose from!
Now im seeing clear AND styling with my whole new look! ROOOOAR!

After having an eye problem misdiagnosed by my doctor and an ophthalmologist, I stopped in to see the optometrist here because my eye was turning inward and painful. This doctor examined me, made some calls and sent me over to Mass Eye and Ear where my problem was treated correctly. These people are the best! The staff is efficient and courteous, the doctor is superwoman!

Terrible service, the optometrist was very rude and put up a fight when I tried to take prescription elsewhere. She would not even come out of her office to talk to me, she had the admin communicate what she wanted to say to me.

Bought glasses from here recently. One of the salespeople was incredibly helpful. He helped us pick out frames and narrow down based on my preferences of lens size, fit, style, etc. I also wanted the transitions lenses and no-​scratch coatings, which he made sure I got.
Note: Unfortunately prescription glasses are really expensive, no matter where you go ($ 500 – 800), especially if you don’t have vision insurance. If you have vision insurance (like EyeMed), check to see what your benefits will cover. You can also use flexible spending accounts (and maybe also HSAs?)

I love this pearle vision — is that weird to love your eye doctor? Well I do. First of all the optometrist is always very thorough regardless of the fact that I see her annually for contacts. She ALWAYS runs on time — and that is not something to be taken for granted in any doctors office these days. Meanwhile, the rest of the Pearle Vision staff is nice and helpful — especially Danielle who I believe is the manager. They always remember me and treat me like a loyal customer should be with top notch service. GO HERE FOR YOUR EYES. (The end.)

I was able to get a same-​day appointment with the doctor and the location was perfect to stop in quickly from work.
The staff was friendly and very helpful in picking out frames for me, getting the lenses made, and had me out of there in an hour. Would definitely go back!

I have been seen here for the past 3 years, and every time I’ve come in the staff have been very helpful! Figuring out how to utilize all of my insurance is really confusing and they have made it so easy! I’ve met with a few of the different sales associates over the years and they have all maximized my insurance so that I either come out with new glasses and contacts, colored contacts (such a nice little bonus!), and even prescription sunglasses! I have been more than happy with my experiences here and would definitely recommend them. They also match their prices with 1−800-CONTACTS so I felt like I was really getting the best deal, plus free shipping! The optometrists have all been excellent too.

I should probably preface this rating by stating that I have only ordered glasses and new lenses and gotten adjustments here, I have not seen the doctor. However, I think that the staff here are the NICEST in all of Boston.
This particular Pearle Vision is the first glasses store I ever went to. I’ve only needed glasses for the last two years. Their staff was caring. They offered me sound advice on frames since I was shopping alone. They also took the time to make sure that those frames fit PERFECTLY onto my face. It turns out this is not a service that everyone will really take the time to do. They encouraged me to come back regularly as my frames loosened and each time I came back, they again took all the time that was necessary to get my frames to sit correctly again.
Additionally, if you are replacing the lenses in your frames (whether you bought them here or somewhere else), they have one of the best turn-​around times. They can often get it done in a day or two, where other shops that send the glasses out will take a week or more.

It was time for these old eyes to get a new pair of prescription glasses and I dreaded the whole process. I have a stigmatism and when I got my last pair the store I went to in the Cambridgeside Galleria had to send back the glasses to be tweaked 5 times! I was so dizzy! It took four months for them to finally get it right! But Christina at Pearle Vision was amazing and helped me see clearer than I have in years with my new designer glasses. I was so excited that I am now ordering sunglasses as well! I’ll never go anywhere else again! They Rock!

I wish there was a 3.5 star rating, but since there’s not, I’m rounding up to 4. I had my exam here, which went mostly well. The receptionist was distracted on her cell phone and didn’t fill out my paperwork correctly before she left, so I almost wasn’t charged the correct amount. The doctor I saw was friendly and my exam was pretty thorough, including an offer to dilate my pupils.
Two things that would prevent me from coming here again:
1– Price. Even with insurance, I ended up paying over $ 100 for both my contacts exam and glasses exam. I’ve never paid more than $ 80 anywhere else.
2– The doc said my glasses Rx hasn’t changed, which I know is not true. My glasses are more than 8 years old and exams since then say my eyes have gotten slightly worse. I haven’t gotten new glasses because I rarely wear them, but I want to get new glasses this year and I’m a little concerned I still won’t be able to see clearly because the Rx she gave me is the same as the crappy glasses I have now. And because of the price I paid, I can’t afford to go have a second opinion exam.
Otherwise, this place was quite alright.

I want to preface this review by saying that I’ve had my eyes checked every year since the beginning of time so I know what to expect from an eye exam.
I was able to make an appointment very easily and came in the next day around 4 pm for my exam. The doctor’s office is in the basement and the receptionist greeted me promptly. I’m pretty sure the receptionist is a bit of a flake because when I was on the phone with her the day before, I had to repeat everything I said about 5 times. It was the same type of interaction once I was in the office. I walked into the exam room and the optometrist seemed nice enough. She told me she didn’t typically work there and was only filling in. My exam went really quickly — too quickly actually. She did not ask me to read any signs without my glasses, nor did she ask me to read close up. Basically she took my glasses, asked me if I noticed any different from last year, and when I said no, she wrote me the same prescription. Fortunately, I didn’t expect much of a change, but if you haven’t had an exam in a while — don’t come here!
There is a nice selection of frames — designer and not — to choose from. Since I had a groupon (and no vision insurance), I ended up with a good deal. I don’t expect frames to be cheap and two years ago I spent over $ 400 on glasses, so I was actually surprised when I walked out paying under $ 200 out of pocket (after the $ 225 groupon). They make their own lenses on sight and I was able to come back and pick them up the next day. Everything seemed ok with my glasses and I don’t really have any complaints there.
If you already have a prescription and are just looking for a deal on frames, come here. If not, don’t.

I had a great eye exam and glasses purchase experience here. The doctor helped me choose a different brand of contacts that are much more comfortable to wear, and the staff helped me pick out new frames that I absolutely love. Definitely come here if you are looking for new glasses. The store has a wide variety of styles and the staff is very helpful picking out ones that work for you. They were also willing to completely replace my lenses when the lens coating began to peel. I couldn’t be happier!

Got my new glasses there, and could not be happier. I have «special needs», I tattoo for a living and my glasses can’t slide or move when I do. These people took the extra time to make sure I picked exactly the right frames, and they adjusted every little part so that they fit me snug, but didn’t squeeze.

i went here to get an emergency contact eye exam. i was promptly helped which i appreciated but then after the exam i was kind of forgotten about. i cant say i had any real issues with the doctor but the receptionist was terrible. i had said exscuse me more then once and my friend also tried to get her attention as she pulled out her blackberry to text whomever. she went upstairs a few times and then randomly started asking me how i was doing… and then i had to ask for contact solution… Sigh… atleast i got the exam out of the way…

Not sure what happened with the previous reviews, I was shocked when I read them, perhaps they have changed staff/​ownership. My experience was sooo great that I had to take the time to write one myself!
I was actually in Boston on vacation and my darling 2 year old decided to break the only pair of glasses that I brought with me. We were by Quincey Market and I walked to the Pearle store. The staff was able to accommodate me despite the fact that I didn’t have an appointment and they were very helpful. They contacted my insurance and made sure to let me know was included in my coverage so that there were no surprises. I had an eye exam done and thought it was very thorough… it is an eye exam people, not an MRI.
They do have nice expensive glasses, but they also have nice inexpensive ones too and if you let them know your budget, like I did, they were very helpful in finding the right pair for me. The staff gave suggestions on which lenses would be the best fit for me and now they are my preferable lenses!
The store was a God-​sent for me and I highly recommend it!!!

First of all, I don’t care if you have a medical degree. You can’t be a great doctor just by having that degree and performing all sorts of damn procedures. You have to CARE about your patients. And I can tell you this, I didn’t feel like I was being cared for properly. For one thing, she kicked my bag out of her way. She could have chosen to ask me to put it somewhere else instead of the floor. But no, she didn’t even say a word as she kicked my bag. Like it was trash.
Then she made me read, what, two lines? And with that she determined that I need new contacts and glasses. That didn’t even take five minutes. What happened to asking if you want your pupils dilated? Or reading more lines to determine that, yes, I do need a new prescription?
I paid $ 179 for 15 minutes of… what?

i am pretty sure i got gypped by the eye doctor here! i just wanted a simple eye exam to update my prescription since i needed new glasses but instead he kept pressuring me to also get a contacts exam even though i didn’t need new contacts.
he insisted that people usually always do the 2 exams together and if i EVER needed to order contacts within the year then i would have to have a contact exam done and it might as well be now. well i caved in to this pressure because he’s a doctor right? and as a result was around $ 170 more in debt.
the eye exam and contact exam barely took any time and was hardly thorough. at the pearle vision i usually go to in california, the eye exam alone takes about 20 minutes. here, both eye and contact exam took 10 min and the optometrist didn’t ask me if i wanted to dilate my eyes, didn’t test my peripheral vision, and didn’t test if i was colorblind or had astigmatism!
after the very unsatisfactory eye and contact exam that cost me around $ 300 for 10 minutes, i went upstairs to look at glasses. they have one of the smallest collections of glasses i’ve ever seen and the person helping me was totally ridiculous and offering me harry potter-​esque glasses and enormous rectangle glasses that were HARDLY flattering.
after he proceeded to hand me every pair of glasses offered in the store and made me try them on with him there, he proceeded to tell me that i couldn’t get plastic frames because i didn’t have a nosebridge.
give me a BREAK. there are TONS of little asian girls w/​o nosebridges running around with plastic frames in boston. so i promptly left that pearle vision, and will never return!
