The guys in here are great. Doesn’t matter if you’re a world renowned athlete or an out of shape couch potato, they really care about your well being and do everything they can to help you get in shape and be the best you can be. I’ve worked with nick nelson, great guy — very tough workouts, lol, but he wants to see you succeed. I would highly recommend this gym anyday. These folks are good people, and if you ever have any issues with anything they are attentive to your needs. Thank you peter Welch’s gym!

Best workout ever! I’ve never boxed in my life, but since finding this gym, I’m addicted! Nothing like punching a heavy bag to relieve the stressors of the day. Consistently tough workouts to motivating music lead by experienced staff. Total body… every class is different & challenging. The gym is artfully decorated with boxing legends & paraphernalia of boxing past and present.

Peter Welch’s gym has a fantastic kids boxing program. I have watched them work with the kids several times now, and the youthful friendly staff make it nothing short of remarkable. Think of it as a fun, interactive workout with some boxing instruction for kids 5 — teen. The way they successfully engage such a wide age range, with kids from all sorts of backgrounds, from all over Boston, is truly amazing. So flexible and affordable to!

Awesome boxing gym. A wealth of boxing knowledge lives here. Excellent trainers and boxers on all levels train here. The. South Boston location fits and
the character of the place. There are dozens of. boxing gyms in and around Boston but this. one is one of the best, a pure boxing gym. The trainers are top notch. Derek Shea is one of them.

If you want to get in shape, this is the place to be. You don’t have to be into boxing to go here. There is a great mix of young/​old, men/​women, in shape/​out of shape. Everyone is friendly and supportive. Thereare classes for anyones schedule, from early morning to the evening. Definitely worth checking out.

First time Peter ask me to try out his gym I was a bit uncomfortable, I said to him «I don’t box, nor do I know how to.» He insisted I give it a try and since then I never left, it’s going on two years now and I can say this is the ONLY gym I can say I want to work out and I truly enjoy it. I’ve joined many other gyms in the past, but overall Peter Welchs gym has transformed me mentally and physically. I’ve noticed my whole body toner than it’s ever been and I love the energy from the classes. All the staffs are very nice and helpful, they want you to learn the proper techniques and they sure give you a heck of a workout every time.

Just went tonight for a free intro. training class. It was AMAZING. Such a good workout, with an enthusiastic staff and supportive members. I learned the basic left and right jabs, and we did conditioning in between punches. It was a great total-​body workout and the help I received as a first-​timer was awesome (along with other first-​timers)! I’ve heard of other boxing gyms that pay little attention to those with a free trial, but was so pleased that Peter Welch’s Gym offered the attention I was looking for! I highly recommend this gym to anyone for a great workout and motivational environment. I have to admit, I was nervous that I would feel awkward, but I felt so welcomed. I will absolutely be starting off with the 10-​class package, and possibly even look into personal training! Thank you to the staff for making it such a great experience!

I greatly enjoy going to Peter Welch’s Gym. Their intro to boxing class is an intense full body work out that you will never regret taking.
I also appreciate the gym’s schedule, they have classes at different times and days, that there is no way that they don’t accommodate their patrons.

used a class pass and i went to my first class today at peter welch’s gym. this is hands down the hardest workout i’ve ever done. but it’s amazing. the atmosphere is no spa, but you’re there to work, and work you will. heavy bag, drills, shadow boxing, laps, core, jump rope. it’s killer. it’s really welcoming, though. everyone is friendly, people of all fitness and skill levels from beginner to boxer are there. i loved it. and i will be back.

Simply put… if you no longer want to be fat, chubby, a butterball, husky, out of breath going up the stairs or huffing & puffing after running less than a mile then Peter Welch is the place for you!
The fighter conditioning classes are intense & amazing. Did I almost die during the first class? Hell yeah. But it just further more confirmed how out of shape I am & pushed me to sign up for a membership. These classes are exactly what my rotund burger eating, French food loving A$$ needs! I haven’t been this excited about trying something new since they opened that Five Guys on Huntington ave!
The staff is extremely friendly which is such a plus! First time visiting, Sean was extremely informative, professional & exuded great customer service! I love this place. I haven’t been this sore in my life & I love it. I can’t wait to see the end result.

I’ve been going to Peter Welch’s gym for three years now– three to four times a week — usually the 5:30AM class… I look forward to the workouts each day & hate missing class. Great idea to mix up trainers, so you get a different workout each class. Chris and Derrick’s classes will definitely make you wish during class you never came but after so glad you did. They are intense!
Two things I think they could improve on is adding core work to end each class! And their women’s locker room– for the amount of people & money per month they could definitely make it nicer! Overall, a great place to make friends and get your a** handed to you with a great workout!

I’ve been to other boxing gyms before, and this one is the best one yet. Amazing and comprehensive workout. The staff is friendly and very welcoming. I’ve had Nick Nelson a few times, who is a great instructor because he’ll pay attention to the needs of people working out. An environment with a lot of encouragement to keep going and push yourself. I highly recommend this boxing gym.

Whelp, just got my ass HANDED TO ME. As someone who has CrossFitted for almost 2 years and trained for three full marathons I literally have NEVER been so out of breath before in my life after just 10 minutes.
The instructor for the 7:30pm Monday night class was VERY GOOD; I like when they are like a drill Sargent and kick you ass. it’s awesome. I think the work out is SOLID: full 50 minutes of cardio with only about 3 minutes of rest which is spread out in 1 minute rests for each section.
I was DEF confused on how to box (and well at that) but felt like I could keep up enough to get a very good work out. They offer a 10 class card for 100 dollars which I plan to do although if you have wrist issues I would STAY AWAY because I have tendintious and feel like my wrist is already sort of bothering me :/​
Anyway, seems like a great way to work out hard core… I can only imagine the results are awesome if you have serious weight to take off.

That’s what I say with a smile and rivets of sweat dripping down my face (and everywhere else) after taking one of Peter Welch’s fighter conditioning classes. Holy AMAZING workout!!!
There’s not much to add that other reviewers haven’t mentioned here already… freaking awesome instructors, constantly changing routines — I’d go so far as to say the routines change by the hour/​day/​instructor.
This place is such a gem, it makes me beyond happy that it’s a stones-​throw away from my condo so I can take full advantage of everything they have to offer!
Get your @$$ up and train here, son!

Unbelievable. I was afraid to check it out. I felt embarrassed even before I got there — I’m in the worst shape I’ve been in years! Fractured toe and chubby… ugh! I swear I forget my age when I’m there. I forget whatever horrible number my jerk bathroom scale reads that morning. I forget whatever stress life is presenting. I feel like a kid at camp and I forget about time, I forget about my chub and I push myself. Everyone is so nice. The trainers are the best — knowledgable, attentive and personal. At the end of class, I’m drenched in sweat and I swear I’m always smiling…

Despite it’s hard to find location and tricky parking situation, this gym is totally legitimate. 50 minute boxing class which incorporates cardio, weight lifting and bag work makes for an intense I’m-going-to-puke-my-guts-out experience which is completely worth it in the end. Friendly staff and a good mix of people in each class (i.e. newbies should not be afraid to give it a shot!)

I’ve been a member of PWG for almost two years and it’s been an amazing experience, I have lost a lot of weight and I’m probably in the best shape of my life.
The workouts are 50 minutes long, intense and varied throughout the week. They also offer boxing instruction later in the day and weekends. Workouts include: cardio, plyometrics, bag punching, weight lifting, etc.
The trainers are really good, courteous and respectful. Each has a different training style: Endurance, Technique, Weight Lifting. For a more cardio workout I recommend Tom, for weight lifting, Derek.
The facilities are big, with a lot of room to work on your own, although recently there has been a spike in attendance, it must be new years resolution. There is a weight room in the top floor and a private training area. So if you feel like just working out on your own, you can do so upstairs.
The class schedule is extensive, but I would suggest to add a 8:30am class for those going to work later. I would also add a night class at 8:30pm.
Overall the gym is exceptional and well worth the money. Peter please don’t run more Groupons! It will degrade the quality of the gym!!!

Good but expensive…
I love these classes (especially when they are taught by Peter W. or Derek!) but can’t get myself to cancel my other gym membership (I buy class cards).
I would love for this to be my home gym but they don’t have any other cardio equipment. I like to mix up my workouts with a taste of US Weekly on a Stair Stepper every now and then:)
