SCAM!!! The previous review also appears to be a fake as they posted the same review on several sites. This appears to be a scam company. When you call Red Smith(note there is no business by this name at the address on Hanover Street) you are routed to a national 1 – 877 number national company that then sends out another locksmith company — this is fine, they’re just using a fake business name to lure customers into thinking it’s a local business. It gets worse… I was never told upfront that they accept cash payment only(this, I learned later is part of the scam), despite the fact that they charge a minimum $ 140 lock-out fee plus $ 55 service call fee. I only found out about these charges when he wrote up the bill — this wasn’t part of the $ 150 the locksmith quoted me to replace the lock. When the lockmisth arrived in an unmarked van he immediately drilled out my lock without first trying any other method. He then charged me $ 170 to replace the lock and reset it to fit my key. When I refused to hand over the nearly $ 400 charge in cash, the lockmsith as well as «Red Star» locksmith(which I called) got angry and insisted that they only accept cash payments. Finally, after about 15 minutes when I called«Red Star» and got a different operator who said there was no problem with me paying with a credit card over the phone. The note he gave me for the services had no company name on it, nor was the locksmith able to provide a business card or his last name. I have requested a receipt from the company(as they promised over the phone) but they refuse to send me one. Due to the sketchiness of the whole sitation I cancelled my credit card as I didn’t want these guys having my number. I also called a real, professional, local locksmith to come over and replace the locks(ironically less than a third of the price charged by «Red Star» to drill out and replace one lock). I wasn’t really comfortable knowing that these scam artists could potentially have a key to my place since they had my old lock.
