The Dr. Martens Store

I really love this shop! The staff are amazing and recognized my family from a year ago which was surprising. The selection of unique boots is impressive and they even carry children’s sizes.

Cool place. The staff here is very helpful. My friends and I got three boots:) definitely gonna come back and shop again.

Excellent customer service. They genuinely want to make sure that you buy shoes that you will love. My husband bought a pair of shoes that just didn’t fit him right. They allowed him to exchange them without any hassles. Scott was very kind and helpful. Highly recommend this store. They truly care about their customers.

While I was visiting Boston I noticed this store in such a cute neighborhood so I decided to walk in. I wanted to buy the classic black boots for the longest time so I thought this could be my opportunity, unfortunately I was wrong. The girl who approached me seemed nice so I asked her for the size and model I was looking for which was size 3 kids (I’m a small person, my height is 4’10 and I usually always go with kids size when buying shoes because they just fit me best) but as soon as I said I was looking for kids size, the employee started telling me that I shouldn’t go with kids size, offered to measure my foot and right after I was trying them on she insisted they were too small for me and I should go with the adult size even though the shoes felt just right and even a little big for me. She proceeded to bring the adult size and as soon I tried them on I pointed that I had at least 1 ½ inch extra and that I look pretty much like a clown because they just look too big for such a small person like me. She took the kids shoes I tried before and just walked away REFUSING TO SELL ME THE SHOES stating that I had buy the adult size. I understand the difference in price but I just won’t buy something that won’t fit me! I don’t care about the price, I just wanted to make sure I’m buying something I can wear! I wouldn’t even care paying adult price for the kids size boots but I just hate the fact that she just walked away from me with the boots and NEVER came back to the floor! How ridiculous! I usually shop in nyc and never experience anything like that! Such a disappointment, I walked out without my boots :(and definitely was the only bitter part of my awesome trip to Boston.

Awesome service. Great display of Dr. Martens collection. I have two pairs that I needed to replace, so it was pretty quick stop. They have the made in England collections in the shop, which was fun to admire. FYI, the online shop return sucks, and the uk sizing is bit bizzard (every style is bit different in sizing, especially with sandals and made in England collection) so it’s best to try on before buying your first pair of Dr.Martens.

My boyfriend and I were waiting a month for a pair of boots he wanted for Christmas to appear in his size in the online store. They were in the Made in England collection, so I knew they’d be a little slow to produce, but they never appeared in his size. So, for a belated Christmas present, we went together to the actual physical Doc Marten store where they had them readily in stock!
It’s incredible how weirdly Doc Martens, as a company, is run — a pair of boots located in a store four miles from a customer appears as «not in stock» on their website, because they don’t have it in a warehouse in England. But whatever :)
While I was in the store, I had a great conversation with one of the salespeople about our boots (I was wearing my 3-​year-​old Vintage collection 1490s), how to take care of them, how to repair them, etc. I pointed out that my boots had a crack in the sole, and he said that I could take them to a repair shop that worked with PVC soles, and that they could patch it up, so that was good to learn.
I ended up buying two pairs — one for my boyfriend (the Arthur, Made in England collection) and a new pair for me, while the others were being repaired (Oxblood 1490s, also the Made in England collection) Love them!
On sort of a downer note, my boyfriend didn’t like the shoelaces with his new boots (they were pretty thin/​dressy-​looking), and asked if there were a different pair of shoelaces he could wear with them. One of the salesladies picked out a new pack of shoelaces for him, we purchased them, but when we got home, we realized that the shoelace aglets (which were metal) didn’t come close to fitting through the shoelace holes in his boots! Big oversight on their part, especially that we’re paying $ 500 for two pairs of shoes, and you’d expect a little attention to detail there, but whatever.
Only four stars because of some inconsistencies with the experience, and company as a whole, but you really can’t beat these boots. (To the person who complained about them hurting her feet during the first week: Get some duct tape, bandaids, thicker socks, and suck it up. It’s part of the experience!)

This store is awesome. They’ve always been helpful suggesting styles that would fit my taste. During the pride parade they were handing out free rainbow laces. I thought that was awesome too.

Most terrible customer service I have ever experienced in my life.
I had a pair of their boots (bought it in New York when visiting) that I only wore once because the front section of them hurt my feet a lot to the extent that those sections of my feet were swollen. The reason I went to the Newbury store was I wanted the boots to be checked to see whether they were defective and I could not go back to the NY store because I reside in Boston area.
When in the store, I was told to talk to the store manager. The store manager… First she told me, that new boots always hurt and take some time to break in. I could not possibly continue to wear the boots the way they were hurting my feet, and I told her that. Then she checked the boots and told me that they were not carrying the boots and in fact no Dr. Martens retail store carries this kind of Dr. Martens after I told her that I bought it in the NY store– she basically told me I was lying (unfortunately I didnt have my receipt with me, but today in almost every store they can look up your receipt for you in their system). From that point on, she didnt listen to me and when I was talking to her and she cut me off saying that she will give me the number for the customer services for which I did not need to come all the way to this store and could have pulled it from the internet. At one point, she told me that she cant talk to me anymore because she needs to help «her customer” — Is she really not aware that I bought one pair of the boots from a company that employs her and makes me also her customer? I left the store with a pair of boots that I cant wear.
I might be right or not throughout this story but the bottomline is every customer deserves a fair treatment for a product they paid for. Just be very aware of those shoes/​boots you are buying and their return/​exchange policies and the help you are going to receive from the person that is the manager of this store.

When I first visited this store some months ago, I was dressed as trad/​rudeboy/​trojan skinhead. The staff looked at me like I was from another planet, and even when there was ample opportunity to help me, they preferred to talk to a yuppish looking clientele. It was very awkward and uncomfortable. The prices of the boots were incredibly high… impossible for a working class person like myself to afford. I left the place feeling pretty alienated.
Some months later I had a pair of Dr. Martens boots that were the wrong size. I called the store and asked if they would trade them in for the same model but correct size. They said yes, and assured me everything would be fine, but when I arrived the same day they looked at me like I was a space alien again (dressed post-​punk in black with a hoodie and all that this time) … they were making fun of me when I left! It was crazy, and creepy. The store is awful, the boots ridiculously priced. Ex-​military friends (even conservative ones) have told me about similar experiences with this store. If you want some combat boots for a good price and without dealing with these awful snobs, get something like Rothco 5092 elsewhere instead.
Forget about parking in downtown Boston, it is near impossible. Park at Alewife and take the Red Line and Green Line MBTA subway into the downtown area. It is best to walk around Boston, not drive around it.

I mostly felt the need to review this store for the awesome customer service. I came on a busy night, but the sales rep (didn’t catch his name — a quite beardy fellow) was super friendly, helpful, and always right there whenever someone needed to try another style/​size.
I’m also a big fan of the lenient return policy. You can never really tell whether a pair of shoes is going to work until you wear them for a day out and about. Unfortunately, these didn’t work out in the end… but at least I was able to return them stress-​free!

I cannot attest to the quality or fit of these shoes. Why? My husband and I walked into a relatively empty store waiting for an employee to help us. We were there for almost 20 minutes, but not one of the three employees took the time to talk to us. Not even eye contact! I was literally walking around the store with a shoe in hand looking for help. To make matters worse, a woman who walked in 10 – 15 minutes after us received service immediately. Super disappointing service. Can’t speak about the shoes…

Nice selection. Got a nice pair of wing tips today. Price was what I expected. Sales person was friendly. I’m a doc marten wearer since the 1980’s.

Super helpful staff and very cool store. bought my first pair there yesterday and looooooooooooove them. the staff had told me about the pain i was going to go through since i had bought the toughest leather. im glad they did. it prepared me for the blisters. They are pretty pricey but it is soo worth it. if you want to invest in a sweet pair of shoes, go here!!!

I am so pleased with my experience at the Dr. Marten store in Boston. BEST service ever… Brooke, the store manager, helped me find the perfect 8 eye black boots I have been wanting for ages. She was so sweet, patient, knowledgeable and thorough. What a great employee! she knew EVERYTHING I asked and more.
If only there were more salespeople like this in the world !!!

I love my Doc Martens. I’ve been wearing them for over 20 years and I swear by them. Problem is, they are difficult to find. Sure, you can find a random shoe store carrying 2 – 3 styles, but they always seem to be out of my size and let’s face it, the beauty of Dr Martens is the vast number of styles they have, I prefer not to buy online because I like to try them on first. Luckily, I go to Boston regularly and Dr Martens has an entire store here! Whoo hoo!
The staff is super friendly and helpful I talked to one of the girls there for almost 30 minutes about the variety of shoes. And I mean variety, seriously, there are hundreds of styles here for men and women from the conservative to the super funky.
Helpful staff, a superior product.
I shall return.

Fantastic experience. Salespeople were helpful and friendly, quick to grab anything my wife and I needed or even wanted to look at, insoles, etc. Turns out I should have listened better to their advice! After a few days, I was able to take the Vinatge 1460s back to exchange for a more correct size, and that transaction couldn’t have been easier either. Everyone there seemed eager to make sure we were ultimately satisified. The sales associates were happy to let me walk around in the second pair for ten minutes browsing while I made sure these were the ones — which, considering they’re not *INexpensive*, I appreciated. Great atmosphere in the store, Soundtrack was Stooges, Cramps, and The Clash… hard to beat! I think the boots are great (love ‘em or hate ‘em, they are what they are!), but as far as the store, I had a great experience and will certainly be going back in a few months to pick out another pair of boots (red 1490s?), rather than just getting another pair online now that I’ve got my size.

Hope the store lasts as long as the shoes do! A welcome addition to Newbury Street. Fun, friendly staff, good selection, and a lot closer than London.
