I have been trying to contact The Factory Theater for over week! I have left two voice mails and two emails to no avail. They state explicitly that they rent space even down to the hour but GOOD luck getting them to return your inquiries! I recently moved back to Boston from NYC after having spent 13 months there and I rented space at Ripley Grier Studios on occasion and it was easy as 123 :) Not so with The Factory Theater :(Very unprofessional in my experience.

Preface: The show I saw here was great. This review is for the venue only. 1. «Entrance in Rear» does not begin to describe how to access the theater. This is not a quick jaunt around the corner; expect to walk several hundred feet and navigate through a full parking lot to access the entrance, which is marked by a relatively small sign that is hidden behind a minivan. 2. During show nights it would be amazing if someone grabbed some sidewalk chalk and drew arrows on the sidewalk to help guide potential audience members. As it is, either you’re in the know or you’re out in the cold. 3. The venue is tiny; you are nearly on the stage! The shows are therefore extraordinarily intimate. You feel as if you’re in on a secret, or on the cusp of something that is about to get very popular. Focus on your future hipster cred while you try to keep your mind off of how little leg or elbow room you have in your seat. 4. Expect to trip on the few short stairs on your way to the seat. In the conversion from a basement room to a theater, little attention seems to have been paid to making the place navigable for anyone with poor eyesight, limited mobility, or those with subpar reflexes(if you can’t catch yourself when you trip on that awkward step, you’ll fall into the seating area). 5. For those who wander through the front door of 791 Tremont, there are several locked doors and a small, hard to read sign to greet you. The sign directs you to go to the rear of the building, and from there, you are on your own. Conclusion: I’m looking forward to the theater troupe that I saw getting really popular and graduating to a better venue.

This is such a cool place to see a show. The hallway by the box office is tiny, so I’d reccomend waiting outside if you get there before house opens. Then, the audience is allowed in, and the space is small(maybe 30 seats) but it’s nice! You’ll get to know your fellow audience members quickly, because seats are very close together. The shows that I’ve seen here were all friends’ shows, so it was cool to feel like I was in the middle of the action. I’d definitely like to see some more shows here. I’ll reiterate what someone else said about it being like someone’s living room.(I’m thinking someone needs to do a production of «Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf» here. wow)
