Wood Island MBTA Station – Blue Line

Wood Island is my main connection in & out of Boston. I like the openness of the station which allows a nice breeze to flow through from the water. There is a sporatic amount of staff here, usually in the morning & late nights that tend to sit in the customer service booth but don’t really leave it until someone knocks on the glass. It stays moderately clean & there are a good amount of trash recepticles available but it take a little effort from the communter to keep it clean too. While the platforms are covered there are issues when it rains. The spare stone benches are set too far back so they get soaked or covered with snow. Also there are many birds living in the structure which cannot be good for the station in the long run. The station is dark at night because a lot of the lights are out. Sometimes the exterior lighting is not even on. While I feel safe most of the time here, effective lighting would help just navigating the space. The MBTA has done a good job here but now there needs to be proper maintanence & a reevaluation on how to use the space.

Wood Island is a T stop. Nothing more, nothing less. Platforms, escalators, fare boxes, lighting, count down timers… it has it all. It also was remodeled in the late 1990s when the Blue line was being rebuilt for better ADA compliance.
This stations whole lot in life is to provide a train connection to the 112, 121, and 120 buses that service this station. This is because the station isn’t really near anything. It’s squished between the airport, a small neighborhood on one side, empty land (which will become a park at some point), and Bennington Street (and 1A).
But typically, its clean (this is one of the few stations where you can see cleaners working daily!), well light, it has the count down timers, and isn’t very sketchy. That deserves 4 stars in my book.

It’s what you can ask for in a T stop. Escalators have always been functional and the booth has always been manned. Pretty clean. There is a «next train arriving in» sign that always says 6 minutes and will get another star when it is operational…
