Aamco Transmissions

I will never again use Aamco.
I had a morning appointment, dropped my car off ten minutes early, and was told it would take 2 – 3 hours (3 being worst case). I had a voucher to get my brakes fixed, already paid for, and they took it happily, took down my info, and everything seemed just fine. I took off to find somewhere to kill time, because my home is quite far from the nearest location, and I was essentially stranded until my car was done.
Four and a half hours later, I get a call. Is my car ready? NO. They need to replace the rotors as well, and it will take another hour (or more) and an extra $ 300. I should have expected that. But WHY did it take four and a half hours — and hour and a half AFTER I was supposed to have my car back — to decide I needed extra work done? I asked if I could just get my car back — I didn’t HAVE an extra hour! I was told they COULD do that, they COULD stop the repairs and give it back, BUT the mechanic turned real snotty on me, said the car was already in pieces and they were already doing the work (that I said I didn’t want). And they were going to charge me for the labor anyway (even though I had already paid for the voucher — which ALSO covered labor), and by the end I agreed to just pay the $ 300 and wait the extra hour, but I felt bullied into it.
An hour later, the car is ready. I go in and express my dissatisfaction with the length of time, and how I was treated over the phone. What do I get in return? The mechanic raises his voice and starts lecturing me and moving into my personal space, saying I was being unreasonable for expecting my car back within the timeframe THEY supplied, and that I should have been better prepared (for what?), and $ 300 isn’t THAT much (on top of what I had already paid for the voucher)… His tone was loud and snide, and he was basically doing his damnedest to make me feel stupid for questioning him. I was in tears by the time I left.
I have looked over other reviews, and this seems to be a common practice with them. Lure people in with a good deal, and then rake them over the coals.

Keep your car away from this shop. I had my car towed there and after a verbal estimate (around 1000.00) for a new clutch I got the ol’ mechanic shuffle from these guys. First it’s the clutch and then oh by the way ‘we didn’t know’ but it’s your transmission… uh are you NOT a transmission shop? Do you specialize in this area? Okay fine. do it and I’ll pay for it. I pick my car up (oh by the way a WEEK after it was promised) and drive it about 3 miles when I realize that my clutch is vibrating to the point where I can’t drive it… bring it back and magically it’s now the pressure plate. Replace that and I pick up my car and my front end sounds like it’s going to fall off… so I GOT SMART and took it to another mechanic where they told me that AAMCO forgot to tighten my sway bar bolts. FORGOT! Nice work AAMCO. Classy job
oh and yes I will mention this to every single person who asks my opinion and even ones that don’t.
