Nice campas small class sizes.

Currently a senior and transfer student from Cascadia, I find UWB to be an extension of Cascadia in that they’re on the same campus and have the same classroom styles and share amenities. And this is perfectly fine with me. It feels like I never left Cascadia, but that’s a different review.
UWB has great faculty, great tech and a wonderful seriousness to it. As a non-​traditional older student, I’m thrilled I don’t have to deal with the shenanigans of youth (or maybe I’m just envious). Classes are smaller and more intimate, especially when you start getting into your major. However, the variety for some majors is pretty sparse. And it’s pretty expensive.
Now, the hellishness of UWB: the parking. Ugh. Just … ugh. Four weeks into the quarter and there are still classmates showing up more than a half hour late to class because they’ve been driving through the lot and the garage for literally over 45 minutes looking for a spot. Fortunately, my age and experience have taught me to be ridiculously early for anything having to do with this campus — and I’ve not been late to class once. I guess the moral of this story is to not wait to try to get a parking spot when you have to be in class in 10 minutes. Ain’t gonna happen. Granted, that’s the fault of the student. And sometimes it can’t be avoided due to jobs and childcare, etc. However, if there were ample space for parking, this wouldn’t be as much of an issue.

I had been so bummed that I had screwed myself over as a young kid in Community College screwing around and not getting good grades… my younger days came back to bite me in the butt when I finally grew up and actually wanted to go to school. My grades were too poor to get into the UW and I was super sad.
However… then I found out about the UW Bothell! You still graduate with a degree from the «University of Washington»! And the program I chose ended up being perfect for me. I received my degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, focusing on Science, Technology (not so much) and the Environment. I really wanted to get my degree in Environmental Science or Wildlife Biology but not only did I not have the gpa from community college to get into the UW Seattle campus, I also did not have the pre-req’s to do that program anyways. This program at UW Bothell allowed me to get a GREAT education in Environmental Science! It is a Bachelor of Arts though, not a Bachelor of Science, so that is a downfall for some people. However it is perfect for me as I don’t intend to do the actual scientific work, I just want to work in the field of helping the environment. I’m a better writer than a biologist.
The professors at UW Bothell are incredible! The majority of them are very approachable and extremely capable. In particular, the two main Environmental Science professors that I had, Martha Groom, and Warren …, were amazing instructors! I learned so much from them and really enjoyed the classes. The field trips were fun too!
A perk about being at the Bothell campus is that the class size is only about 15 — 50 students per class. This really allows you to build relationships with your professors and get some one-​on-​one attention should you need it. The classes also don’t end up always being straight out lecture since it isn’t a hall of 300 students. It’s a much better learning environment in my opinion.
Additionally the campus has a wide range of students. There are some students fresh out of community college, especially since they now have the community college on the same campus — but I was going as a 30 something student and I would say that half of the students were 30 — 60 years old. I loved that!
Parking can be a challenge, but what school doesn’t have a parking challenge? Besides parking, the location is great, the campus is beautiful and most of the professors can’t be beat. Wonderful place to go back to school!

I graduated from UW Seattle and chose UWB for more education. I guess I hadn’t had enough yet! I was unsure about going to UWB, but I really am glad I made that decision. UWB is a quaint school and the quality of education is much higher due to the smaller classroom size. The school only has one lecture hall and even that isn’t too large. Going from a class with a few hundred students to a class of 40 is awesome to say the least. The school is definitely expanding. They know their potential and they’re certainly reaching for it.
SIDE NOTE: Congrats to UWB business PROGRAM for becoming a nationally-​renowned business SCHOOL come March 26^th! Yay!
Yes, parking is no fun… there is parking in the upper lots, but its expensive!

Great school! Parking? Not soo much.

Long story short– the childhood dream of going to UW (Seattle) straight from high school didn’t work out. Several years after completing a Associates from Cascadia CC, I decided to finish at UWB. I was apprehensive at first– is this a real UW? I feel like I’m missing out… I couldn’t have been more wrong! The smaller campus size is actually quite a benefit. Not only can I walk between the UW buildings in under 5min (try doing that in the Seattle campus), class sizes are smaller so there’s more 1:1 attention, and parking isn’t terrible (still college campus parking, but they have lots of garage and lot spots). Also, since it’s a smaller school, Professors are easy to contact and more than helpful. The staff has been amazing– from admittance to advising, they have all been friendly, welcoming and helpful. Also, the school is friendly to the «non traditional» students, so night & weekend classes are available and professors understand balancing school and a career. Also, the campus is located on protected wetland and has a major focus on environmental sustainability through not only classes but the building itself. Things may not have worked out for the Seattle campus, but I’m glad it brought me here. I definitely recommend UWB to a friend.
(Why only four stars? Parking can be sticky, and limited degree programs– but those are expanding.)
