Boulder Bikesmith

I had a great experience with Boulder Bikesmith. I brought in my old, used bike that’s been through a lot of wear and tear. He had it up and working like new in a few days for a reasonable price. Also, he stayed open late (5 minutes late…) for me to come and pick up the bike.

My girlfriend and I went to Boulder in October to visit my sister. We love biking and we heard Boulder was the place to bike around. The gentleman at Boulder Bikesmith was incredibly helpful and nice. Even after my girlfriend pulled a total faux pas by knocking over two bikes, he was super nice about it.
We rented two road bikes for four days, and they were perfect. They were light and comfortable and the rental was very affordable, especially since it came with a helmet and a lock.
I would definitely recommend this shop to rent a bike!

So I came in with a very well-​used bike (that I bought used twelve years ago), to decide whether to overhaul it or replace it.
Wow, something about talking with Jon is very solid and reassuring. I didn’t feel so self-​conscious about coming in with old cheaper equipment and not knowing much and asking dumb questions.
I ended up replacing it with a new (used) bike that cost less than the overhaul. I feel great about the purchase. He also helped me with the helmet fit, transferring the kickstand and saddle and fenders from the old bike, a little iphone mount, etc. He tried out a part to mount my U-​Lock, realized it wasn’t going to work, and figured out something with a rubber band instead. Jon has that rare combination of getting things solved and questions answered quickly but somehow not feeling rushed at all.
I’d highly recommend Boulder Bikesmith to anyone wanting service or to buy used. I like that it’s a smaller shop with less inventory and employees; it feels very targeted to the needs of everyday in-​city commuters like me.

I am 44. Went to CU in the 90’s… lusted after Bontragers, Kleins, Stumpjumpers, etc… I rode a Diamondback Vertex back then (super light and strong chromoly)… finally I was able to afford my dream bike (tho the Vertex was about as close as it gets) and, yes, I am one of those old schoolers riding a fully tricked XTR, Marzocchi, Chris King, etc, etc 26er… two of them, in fact — an original ’92 Bonty and a Klein Attitude — and I had a big crash in CO this summer and demoed my Klein. I live in Cali, so could have taken it home to get repaired with my tech here, but chose instead to entrust it to John… and I am sooo glad I did. He mailed it to me, lovingly restored… new cables, new CK shell, new cross laced wheel for strength (so same blow out wouldn’t happen again). I can’t say enough about Boulder Bikesmith… frankly that is what makes Boulder so special… guys like John who are passionate, knowledgeable, dedicated and, most importantly, fair dudes who ride like we do and respect and love our rides as much as we do. AAA++++

I had an AWESOME experience with the bikesmith, I highly recommend. I dropped off my bike for repairs, which were done promptly. Then I went to pick it up, John helped me get everything my bike needed to use it as a commuter bike: lights, fenders, racks, spoke lights, kickstand, etc. He helped me install them and answered all my questions about having my dog with me while biking. He was very friendly and helpful. They also have great deals on rental bikes for sale, if you’re in the market and on a budget, definitely worth a look.

I took my old diamond back mountain bike/​commuter in for some major repairs. John was awesome about explaining my options and whether he thought it was worth investing in. He convinced me it was worth it and I’m glad he did!
He installed a new drive train and cabling along with a tune-​up, and I’m really happy with the results. The bike feels like new. Plus, the cost came in under what he quoted me for, which is always a big plus. I will be going back for sure and recommending to friends!
