Went to Boulder Café for dinner on Thursday evening with a friend and her son. The place has character, but needs some updating. The tables were disgusting, we were told the varnish had worn off due to age & use, but it was sticky, we asked for napkins to put on top of the table. I had a craft beer, friend had a glass of wine. It was hard to select something to eat, nothing really stood out. We started with the lettuce wraps, but they were terrible, couldn’t even finish one and sent it back. The buffalo chicken slider was okay. Then the restrooms, you have to go out of the space downstairs & yuck! There’s so much better places to enjoy in Boulder than this sorry.

I went to Boulder Café twice with my sister for brunch while in Boulder. It wasn’t anything fancy to look at, but we were very happy with our food and service. It also wasn’t too crowded, so we were able to get a table right away, despite being Graduation weekend.

The Reuben sandwich was probably the best one I’ve ever had! Certainly the best one of the last dozen I’ve had. The french fries were«hand cut», so I expected something like steak fries. These however were very thinly cut. Very crispy, but most were no more than an inch long. Not sure if that was on purpose or not. Service was very good. Overall, and enjoyable experience.

First off, I ordered the shrimp, chicken, and andouille sausage gumbo. $ 8.99 for a delicious bowl of yummy. I give their gumbo 5 stars. My friend ordered the Colorado onion soup. She ranked that as 2 ½ stars. Our waiter was attentive until we ordered and then kind of ignored us. I ran out of water and waited quite a bit to get anyone to notice. The waiter finally came by, grabbed my glass, walked away, then brought it back setting it down just out of my reach. Sheesh. So he gets 2 stars.

Going, going almost gone. If you want to have great service, and a wonderful experience, don’t go here. The bartenders were horrible. I hope other finer restaurants recognize their negative energy and do not hire them when this place closes.

Recently stopped in for dinner after hearing they would be closing soon. I had not been in a few years and I was blown away by how much I enjoyed my meal and my half priced cocktails! The falafel lettuce wraps were delicious! omg I mean excellent! I had been craving a good falafel for quite sometime, as I have yet to find a place here in Boulder that makes anything comparable to the bay area. After having a terrible falafel sandwich elsewhere I had given up hope. The falafel was super fluffy, moist, and fresh… I also loved the hummus appetizer with crispy garbanzo beans. I make my own hummus at home and rarely order it out because it is almost always prepared poorly but not here. Since all starters are half priced we went a bit overboard and ordered the fondue appetizer as well. Everything was delicious and the server was attentive and friendly. I will be back very soon!

Brunch. Flatirons French Toast is the best I’ve ever had. Ever. French bread stuffed with cream cheese and bananas and smothered in praline syrup with pecans. Incredible. Service was super slow at first and another waitress took over and she was awesome. But my 12 minute wait to take our order knocked off one star.

Service was slow on our one visit and the food portions were small. Sometimes a small portion is understandable, if the quality is impeccable(this is not the case). Would I go again? Maybe. Do I plan to go again? Nope

Since the news of the impending closure of Boulder Café, you can tell the staff just doesn’t seem to care anymore. We went in last night(Tuesday) because one of our friends was craving the rustic fries. We went in a were greeted and sat right away. We sat and sat and sat, 2 different servers walked by not acknowledging us. Finally after 10 minutes we asked a server that was just walking by if he could get someone to take a drink order, he replied, ohhh you haven’t been helped yet, you should have. We placed our drink order and some apps, and after 5 more minutes we got our drinks, I had ordered an Irish coffee, it usually comes with some whipped cream so you can stir it in, but it was left off. I asked our clueless server, and he offered to get me some creamer. Now let me stress that it was about 62 degrees in there, so a nice hot warm whisky drink sounded great, until I had to wait 6 minutes for creamer.(There were maybe 6 tables and 3 servers, not busy at all.) I walked up to the bar to just ask him for some creamer, but he had his back turned and was chatting away with some barfly. So I walked back towards the table and asked the host for a new Irish coffee with creamer since this one had turned cold. The waiter also for some reason brought us 2 orders of fries, and was just overall a horrible server. We usually spend a good amount of time and money at Boulder café, but never again. I would advise not to waste your money here, chances are they won’t care, and you’ll overpay for some mediocre food.

Totally bad experience. I(grandpa) took my two sons and three toddler grandchildren for snacks during happy hour We only went there because of the posted discounts(extended happy hour 3 pm to closing). These stinkers slammed me with astounding 36% tip. I complained to manager who brushed me off. I am a generous tipper but these folks are not above board. FARBETTERPLACES. GOELSEWHERE

Love this little place. Great for people watching & great happy hour! I’ve had the Brie & hummus. So good. Now I’m having grilled cheese & tomato soup. Sisters having Reuben. Yummmm

I ordered some variation on a french dip sandwich that the waiter recommended, and it was OK. The side salad I got in lieu of fries, however, knocked my socks off! I was expecting iceberg with a sad tomato and instead got fresh greens and cabbage with carrots and cucumbers and a homemade dressing. I mentioned how impressed I was to the waiter and he said that the produce was all grown in the restaurant’s garden. Who knew? Seriously, the best side salad I’ve ever had. Service was really good too.

Should’ve read the Unilocal review before going… this is the kind of restaraunt your great aunt takes you because she has no tastebuds after 25 years of chainsmoking and because she’s scared of trying new things. The atmosphere/decoration inside is dark, outdated and depressing. Honestly, I lost my appetite a little as we were seated because of how doudy it looked inside. The menu was nothing special, which might be okay elsewhere, but Boulder has such amazing and affordable food options that I guess I’m a little spoiled and expect my food to be unique and flavorful. I hear Boulder Café has good happy hour, but I probably wont go back.

Conveniently located on the Pearl Street Mall, this eatery has good, basic comfort food and reasonable drinks. Service was friendly and satisfactory. Would stop in again if convenient, but would not make it a destination.

Food is okay, but the fries are really good. Hostess was so slow. It our server was fine. Got charged a higher price than was on the menu. There seem to be better options in the area, it this place met our needs. Right place, right time. I liked the chicken salad croissant. Can’t comment on much else. It was okay.

We stopped in at the Boulder Café before heading to the Shakespeare festival. Just a quick dinner. Apps and drinks are half price after 3PM. We asked for a table inside. They led us all the way to the back, passing a bunch of nice 2 tops against the window. Not sure why, it was not crowded at all. I suppose I should have asked. Just seemed odd. The food was good. We started with a Spinach Dip. Nice and spicy. It came with bread and vegetables to dip in it. Not enough though. We finished the accompaniments way before we finished the dip. I had the Blue Corn Shrimp Enchiladas. I did not find or taste any shrimp in the dish. I am sure they where in there somewhere. The dish was served on a small fajita skillet that did not hold it well. It took several bites before I could eat it without spilling any on the table. Glad I was not on a first date. Overall, the offering was kinda sweet. Not really spicy at all. I wish I had ordered something else. My wife had a really nice shrimp and pasta dish. The shrimp was well seasoned, then added to pasta with a creamy tomato based sauce. Just the right amount of heat. The shrimp still had the tails on. Not sure why places insist on not removing the tails when serving shrimp in something. Tails-on works when having them with cocktail sauce, not in a pasta dish. Don’t they know we don’t like fishing around in our pasta to remove tails. For desert, Carrot Cake. I think it was store bought. Not a large portion at all. dry and disappointing… All in all a nice place to hang out and have drinks I am sure. Sit outside and people watch. Go have dinner someplace else.

Does one visit Paris to sit outside in a café on Avenue des Champs Elysess to eat? No. Boulder Café offers one of the best venues for watching the cast of characters wander along Pearl Street that one may find in Boulder. Go for happy hour. Go for Breakfast. Go for Brunch. But sit outside on the rather smallish area. I’m certain I’ve eaten something, but what I remember is what I’ve seen. Happy hour prices allow for wine and conversation to flow, and service is excellent.

Good but forgettable dishes compared to other options on Pearl Street. Service was a little slow but the outdoor seating was nice.

This place has great happy hour specials. Half priced drinks and appetizers. We opted for the alpine fondue. The fondue itself was delicious. Great for a larger group 5 – 6 people. I had the Jerk Chicken for dinner. It was a let down, chicken was charred and dry. Flavor was ok, nice mild heat. Service was ok, seemed like they had the servers working odd sections, some tables inside some outside. Made for large gaps of time not seeing our server. Overall, go for happy hour. Dinner, you could find something better.

Came here with my BF and his family a few months ago on a trip to Colorado. I had the Hawaiian tacos, which were really good. There were about 10 of us and I think everyone liked what they got. Nice place, lots of seating, good food, huge portions, reasonably priced.
