Concertos in Chocolate is really a hidden gem. The company has been in business since 1999 and moved to their Gunbarrel location in 2003. This is a real small business with only 10 employees and everything is hand-made. The name came from the owner being involved in music for most of her life — she believes that as music is an art, chocolate should be an art too. This is not cheap chocolate. This is real. Concertos in Chocolate can be found in retail shops and local hotels, but if you really want the freshest chocolate & caramel, I recommend visiting the small chocolate shop in Gunbarrel. The shop is located just down the street from Celestial Seasonings and Leanin’ Tree. There is always some kind of specials going on & free chocolate samples. You can even ask what is the freshest batches and they will tell you. I was looking through some of the older reviews and saw that some of the information in no longer accurate. Significant changes have taken place at the Gunbarrel chocolate shop. The retail shop has been remodeled so that the kitchen is more open for viewing. A glass case has been added for confections & truffles. Concertos now has real cash register system and accepts all major credit cards, cash and even local checks. They also now have a customer reward program which gives 5% off if you sign up for their monthly email. You will still find the owner working in the kitchen on most days and her sister still works on Saturdays.

MMMMM! What a find with this little(Nom, Nom) chocolate brand! They have quite a few choices for candy bars but I knew which one I had to get when I saw the Dirty Chai chocolate bar with 50% Cacao. The Chai bar consists of dark chocolate, cinnamon, ginger, clove and espresso. The chocolate is wonderfully fresh and all the ingredients that I mentioned make an appearance on your taste buds with espresso rounding them all out nicely. I wanted to eat half of my candy bar but it tasted so good I devoured it all. I am looking forward to snagging some more Dirty Chai bars and try their other flavors as well. You can go to their store in Boulder and get their candy and you can get their candy bars at Whole Foods! Excellent find!

This is hidden in what looks like an industrial park across the street from the King Soopers plaza with Burger King, etc. You have to look for it because it is unassuming but I believe you can see it from the road. There are cars parked on the street during the day for the nearby businesses but you should be able to park without a problem. Esspresso Truffles = AWESOME. Note, I am a troll and scromp them cold! They snap on the outside and are smooth and creamy on the inside. Silk! And this is cold. I was given a small truffle sampler recently of raspberry, hazelnut, espresso(yay), lavender and bitter chocolate. Rasberry seems to come mainly from the decorative dusting but just enough. Lavendar, couldn’t really tell(which is fine) and have not tried the others. Price point = not cheap. I want to say I paid $ 13/$ 15 or so for six chocolates a while back. Store itself — nondescript. The store is tiny and very basic. There isn’t a glass case, everything is on shelving racks. As I recall the register is around the corner in the chocolate making room. Almost disappointing, but you definitely know you aren’t paying for decorating the store. You are paying for chocolate! This isn’t a fancy place where you would feel uncomfortable walking in.

This was unplanned stop on our area tour around Boulder. We found their brochure at the Boulder Creek Winery and it was not too far away. There is a tiny storefront and a sizeable room in the back for making chocolates. The owner’s sister greeted us by throwing my friend chocolates filled with espresso ganache. We also sampled«real white chocolate»(not veg oil!) and chatted about their chocolates. In the end, Eric R. got white chocolate bark with cranberries, pistachios, almonds and other goodies, and I got a set of four truffles: two coconut purée caramels with lime sea salt, amaretto, and baileys. I know the chocolates we tasted were delicious, but I haven’t tried mine yet(we ate so much today that it will have to wait until at least tomorrow!) However when I ordered the coconut-lime salt caramels, the associate told me it is her favorite, so I feel pretty good about it. I hope it transports me back to Thailand where I just honeymooned! A fun little stop in Boulder!!! FYI: Does not accept AMEX
