TL;DR: — Ross, the owner, sold me a new rifle that had a manufacture defect(stock was pushing up against the barrel, which is supposed to be a free-floating barrel –see pic). — At the end, he said to me «I can tell you’re the type of a guy that won’t be happy with anything, don’t even bother coming back in the store». Long story: So I knew there were bad reviews for Gunsport, but I purchased a rifle there anyway because they had it and everyone seemed nice enough. It wasn’t a big purchase. The next day I noticed that the stock was pushing up against the barrel. So I went back to the store the next day to return it since it had a manufacture defect. I thought this would be pretty straight forward, but boy was I wrong. The owner Ross, went from a fairly decent, nice guy from the day I purchased the rifle to a extremely rude, belligerent man. At first Ross said, «This won’t affect accuracy». Maybe that’s true, but rifle barrels are called free-floating for a reason, why should I take that risk? Do I really want to waste my time testing it out, finding out that there’s an issue, and then having to go through calling the manufacture to fix an issue on a new rifle? Especially since I barely took the rifle out of the box and brought it back the next day. Then he said he can have his gun smith come in next week and shave off some of the rubber on the stock so it’s not touching the barrel. I was honest with him, I didn’t want to deal with an issue that’s a manufacturing defect on a new rifle that I purchased a day ago, and then to have it modified by someone and not know what the results are going to look like. It’s not worth my time, plus it’s a new rifle with a manufacture defect that he has stocked, which should have been inspected before being sold. Why should I have to deal with this? Then he gave in and said«We have a no-returns policy, but it’s not worth arguing with you. I’ll just buy it back from you. But you won’t get the tax back, that’s already gone». So I lost $ in sales tax that I paid, but whatever. I was pretty done with this at this point. The best part was when I tried to make the best of the situation and said«Sorry this turned out this way and I plan on buying other firearms from you», and his reply was«I can tell you’re the type of a guy that won’t be happy with anything, don’t even bother coming back in the store». WOW! I was shocked. I’m more than glad to never come back. And guess I’ll be leaving this review now.

WOW– my rifle was short cycling rounds and still is. John said he had fixed it however its not fixed and is still short cycling. Im pissed off, especially since when I picked it up he said it was good to go. I take it out to the range and it fires but new rounds dont get loaded. Furthermore the prices on some of the weapons in the shop are high. Im pretty shocked, but then again its the only place in Boulder.

Sent them a message asking if they had a handgun in stock. They read the message but never replied. Poor customer service. Ended up messaging another gun shop who replied right away and took my business there.

Today was the last of too many times I have tried to love Gunsport. As much as I really want to over look their shortcomings,(mostly the unfriendly, unknowledgeable and unhelpful staff), and spend my money in my community, I just can’t get over how poorly I feel every time I am in the store. While I have purchased several firearms from them now, and was hoping to pick up another today, I just couldn’t do it… as the salesman wasn’t willing to look up any answers to my questions and wasn’t really very friendly. While I keep hearing what a great guy Ross(the owner) is, he has never been helpful or friendly to me. Though the guys who speak highly of him seem to all be in the over 50 crowd, so perhaps that’s why…

Hmmm. Unlike the two who«are new to CO «and from«out of state» and couldn’t get along with the staff at Gunsport, I am absolutely devoted to this local gun store. In the last seven or eight years I have bought and sold two dozen guns from Mr. Shackleton and his staff. Benelli M2 at below MSRP? Left handed? No problem. Ross, may I look at that S&W model 18? Sure. How much? $ xxx and I’ll throw in two boxes of shells. Sold. I’ve used him for two FFL transfers from out of state, and had an easy experience with both. I decided I wanted to thin the herd and put a couple of guns on consignment with Gunsport. Ross helped me price them for an easy sale, and they both went within a couple of weeks. However, the icing on the cake is that a friend of mine, arguably one of the world’s most knowledgeable C&R collectors, says that Gunsport is the best gun shop he has ever bought and sold guns in. I’d have to agree.

Arrogant, condescending and unhelpful. I’m new to Boulder and CO and wanted to support a local business. Prior to today I had been in there 3 times and each time I was treated with a sense of «we’re too busy to talk to you about this and we don’t think you are a real buyer» kind of attitude. Normally in the gun and hunting community you find that people and sales associates friendly and helpful… most of the time its hard to shut them up. However the sales associates and owner of Gunsport couldn’t be less helpful and curt with you, I guess its so they can get back to standing around doing nothing in the empty store. I think they felt like I wasn’t a serious buyer or maybe they are just plain rude. Some may think I am crazy for going back, but today was the last straw and I feel compelled to share it so you don’t waste your time trying to do business there. Today I wanted a simple background check for a transfer which they denied(after calling and asking CBI where I should go), it was a little different as I was transferring to a trust and they said they wouldn’t do it. When I told them the attorney whom specializes in this recommended I get this done the owner took offense and said something to this effect«Just cause you drop the word „attorney“ on us doesn’t mean we are going to buckle to your request get out of my store». Its a shame because I’d like to support a local business. If you want to support a local Colorado based and owned store I’d recommend Jax they are really knowledgeable on hunting and even helped me with recommending GMUs and filling out the licensing paperwork. And if you really want a huge range I’d suggest you go to Cabela’s or Bass because Gunsport’s range is average but most importantly: Life’s to short to be talked down to and treated like an idiot by arrogant retail store associates. Hope I saved you some time and angst.

The best gun shop I’ve ever done business with. I’m constantly surprised with their answer of «yeah, we have one», pretty much regardless of my request. Plus, they don’t mark up over MSRP for hard to get items. The staff is courteous, professional and knowledgeable and, even better, if the person you’re talking to doesn’t know an answer, he will admit it and then find the correct answer for you. I really don’t understand the negative comments that I’ve seen, but I can state with certainty that if a customer comes in acting like a total jackass, then he’ll sure be treated like one! Hey, fair’s fair, right? This shop does very well and doesn’t need to put up with disrespect towards their employees — and I totally agree with and respect that attitude! Once they get to know you, they will order anything you want(that they don’t already have, which is fairly rare) without a deposit. To me, that is pretty unusual. Even with the high local sales taxes, I will continue to deal exclusively with this shop. Disclaimer: I am NOT affiliated or associated with this company or any of its personnel in any way whatsoever. I am just a very satisfied and enthusiastic customer!

Gunsport is a top notch shop. Ross is super to deal with and will always set you up with a quality firearm at a fair price. I bought a Sako from him many years ago, and just went back for my second. It is also beyond fantastic that he has maintained his business right in the heart of the people’s republic of boulder.

I am from new york, and was trying to purchase a nice handgun. One staff member(younger male, with dark hair, and mono tone voice) made this almost impossible because he was so un clear about the steps how to be allowed to own a handgun from out of state. After getting all my papers together the staff member was still very rude to me, I even asked ross if i could speak to another staff member, but he turned down request. after buyin a nice smith and westen the same staff member(the fat young male with dark hair) stopped answering my questions about the gun, turned his back on me literally and didnt even say bye. This gun shop can lick my balls, ive never been treated like such shit in a boulder retail shop like i have in gun sport. hands down worst gun shop in co, due to one staff member with dark hair, middle 20’s, about 6’0″ foot tall, weird voice, and always as a camo hat on. –Ross fire that fatty by Mr. George

This is a great little gun store! The best part is, they’re not the typical gun-totting gun shop paranoid freaks(they don’t carry a sidearm like most gun shops). Super nice. Super knowledgeable. Super great experience. This is my new favorite gun store!

After calling twelve other shops in the state, only Gunsport Colorado had the new HK45 in-stock. I went down and bought it the same day. I also picked up some ammunition, eye protection, a holster, and a barrel cleaner. All of the prices were very reasonable and Ross even threw in some free oil. I couldn’t be happier with my purchase and the entire transaction was very easy. Their store is huge and they have a ton of weapons in-stock. Highly recommended to anyone in the market for a firearm.
