It is so nice that Top Hat Janitorial Supply has remained in business all these years amid the monumental changes and ever-soaring Pearl Street rents. I decided to stop in recently to do a few price comparisons on supplies for my office’s shared restroom. I was very happy to find out that it would be less expensive to purchase caseloads of supplies here than Costco in Louisville. That’s where most people in my complex had been getting their paper goods. My budget had actually gotten so strained that purchasing the annual Costco membership was a stretch. There’s nothing anymore I really go there to buy except for restroom supplies. It just wasn’t worth it anymore, even if buying in Boulder was going to be more expensive. So I was pleasantly surprised to find out that these items were actually cheaper at Top Hat than Costco. I’m talking about an actual quantitative comparison. Mr. Sciacca, the owner of Top Hat, was happy to divide a case of TP in half, and charge half the 64 roll case price. He encouraged me to get the free delivery, but the case fit in my car, so I didn’t need it. Another little vignette about Top Hat: many months ago I decided it was extremely annoying to keep trying to fill up the paper towel dispenser in our office’s shared restroom by stuffing little packets of towels in through the bottom of the dispenser. Historically, it seemed that for years there had not been a key. After some internet research, ascertaining that brand of dispenser is no longer manufactured, I had gone to McGuckin’s Hardware, to try to find a key that would work for it, but after speaking with a few people there it became clear that although they did have a key that might work with our dispenser, the only way to get it was to buy a whole new dispenser. Just the key was not available. Thank heavens I remembered Top Hat. I had seen it so many times as I walked here and there for years and years on Pearl. So I went in, and they had the key, which I was assured would work in our dispenser, and it did! The cost was quite reasonable. Even though sometimes parking can be a struggle even on the East End of Pearl, Top Hat has a few spaces in the rear for customers. So my office is a new regular customer here…
