Disappointed in the variety of fabrics. Good quality however. The staff was not particularly friendly. We probably won’t be back.

This was my first trip to this fabric store, but let me tell you I won’t be back. I saw a lot of bad reviews but thought I’d give it a chance. First, fabric is beautiful and should be displayed as such. Their fabric was just smashed together in racks, with loose ends everywhere. I couldn’t even see beyond the disorder to notice if quilts were displayed. By the variety of fabric I would definitely say this is a fabric store, NOT a quilt store. The floor was filthy. The back room was a mess and open for everyone to see. I was not greeted and only acknowledged by an employee as she almost ran me over with an armful of fabric. The only good thing I have to say about this store is its quantity of fabric. They didn’t have what I was looking for, but there was a lot of everything else.

Friendly people and very helpful. Made me feel welcomed as if I had been going there for years. This was the first time I had been in their store. I could have spent a ton of money. Their store will wow you.

Daaaaaaang… and to think all this time I was going to Joanne’s like a chump. I’m new to sewing, and domesticity in general, so my sister(who is much better at these things) took me to Brooks. I was floored by the selection. ¼ the size of a usual store, but with fabric that I actually LIKED. Modern, classic, novelty… this is the place to go if you’re annoyed by the«grandma» fabrics at mainstream places. Chevon prints? Check Polka dots in every color imaginable? Check Silly amounts of flannel in non-kid prints? Check Beautiful vintage florals? Check Enough rick-rack to make your mom blush? Check Fabrics my husband wouldn’t be embarassed to see in our house? Check Beautiful quilts made by local quilters? Triple Check(worth seeing even if you don’t shop) I also love that it’s local and run by expert ladies. I still kinda suck at sewing, so it’s nice shopping somewhere where the staff has the time and ability to help me figure out what the heck I need for a project. As for negatives — there isn’t much more than fabric, and it has a definite quilting slant(good for us quilters, but not good for us who do other things too). I needed buttons, and they had a paltry selection for example. However, plenty of places have buttons — but hardly anywhere has the easily navigable array of actually-attractive-to-people-under-50-fabric.

Excellent selection of fabrics however Brooks was more pricey than all the other shops I’ve shopped. I like the idea that this shop is owned by 2 sisters, the staff was extremely helpful when needed. Doesn’t accept AmEx –had to leave my fabric at the counter so I could drive to the credit union 2 miles away to get cash.
