WD Foods is one of the last of the true mom-and-pop grocery stores. They haven’t been forced out of business by the big guys just a few miles away and they haven’t gone down the road of selling just beer and junk food like so many other places that think that’s what they have to do to survive. Although I live very close I confess I don’t shop here that much, mostly when I need 1 or 2 items and don’t want to go all the way into town. But I almost always find what I need here. They have a good selection of dry goods, canned goods and frozen food as you would expect in a slow turn-over store. But they also have a surprising selection of fresh food and produce. Staff here is very friendly and after you’ve been in about 3 times they seem to recognize you. The only down sides are the lack of selection, few specialty foods and the prices are a bit higher. But with gas going over $ 4 again stopping here is well worth it. Best tip about WD is the avocadoes! Seriously, a lot of Hispanic farm workers come in here and WD always has perfectly ripe avocadoes. It’s the only place I buy mine.

I really enjoyed WD Foods but it;s been so long I can’t remember why.
