Taj Palace

This place is fooling the people with worst presentation of the Indian authentic dishes. We were served Biryani– Rice mixed with tangy tomato purees with onions half boiled, red chilly powder jacketed all over and pre-​cooked chicken/​mutton/​veg tossed in that. All the Biryani lovers here never had expected this in dream and lost the taste buds instantly running around for water.
Stay hungry, stay foolish… But don’t dare to order Biryani here.
Sad enough for not able to give a minus rating!!!

The ambience looks a little tired; carpet has seen better days. The server was a little inexperienced, but she was also serving the entire restaurant solo.
The menu is actually very reasonably sized. I went for something unique that is not common in many other Indian restaurants: Goat (with bone) curry.
This was excellent with a warm tandoori roti. Found out that the owner is from Nepal. That’s explains why goat is on the menu.
May come back here for the goat curry!

— food is ok. I would give it a B. The tomato-​coconut soup was bad, but some of the curries and entrees were decent

— restrooms are very poorly maintained, esp. Considering how the restaurant interiors look
— the servers could be better. They asked us for our order three times in the first 5 minutes even though we asked them for a few minutes

We stopped here during our visit to Mammoth Cave. The ambience was above average for an Indian restaurant but pretty much everything else was below average. The chutneys that accompanied our bhajia were a joke — the tamarind chutney had a bitter note and the mint /​coriander chutney was green coloring mixed with onion and green chilli pepper paste. These were by far the worst I have ever had at an Indian restaurant. I had ordered the tandoori roti «dry» and was surprised to get it lathered with butter. I sent it right back. The rest of the meal (paneer kulcha, dal makhni) was just okay and uninspiring.

The food here tasted sub-​par. We ordered Dahi Poori (a chat/​appetizer), which looked like poori, potatoes and curd just mixed together haphazardly and didn’t taste any good. We literally asked for ‘chat masala’ and made it half-​edible! I seriously wondered why we came out to eat here, when we could’ve done a rather splendid job at home making it ourselves. But, we hoped our entrees would taste better. and it turned out to be worse.
We got Paneer vindaloo, where the paneer was half-​cooked and was just dropped into gravy two minutes before being brought to the table. The paneer didn’t have a good taste to it at all. The Bhindi (Okra) curry we got was full of oil — nothing close to what we expected it to be. As one of the other reviewers noted before, the bread (pudina paratha in our case) was the only edible thing we could stuff ourselves with.
For all this we ended up paying $ 36 for 2 people, whereas we ate twice the amount of dishes and a lot tastier too at a place called Dakshin in Louisville, KY (and that costed us $ 22!!). Not to mention there were a lot of unclean food stains on the window blinds!
‘Disappointing’ is the least I can say about Taj Palace! Folks who are not used to Indian cuisine, please try some other ‘worthy’ restaurant. I almost feels like this place is open just because they are the only Indian joint in Bowling Green, KY.
To people running this place: check out what other similar restaurants have to offer, and atleast MAKE an effort to improve!

I’ve had the lunch buffet and dinner here. My only complaint is that it’s sometimes too spicy for me, but I’m a baby about spice. They have plenty of vegetarian options, and the owner is very friendly. Sometimes the wait staff seem inexperienced, but the food is worth it.

The reason I only gave 4 stars is because they recently raised their prices without any change in the quality of the food, so I don’t go as much as I used to.
I usually get the Saag Paneer or Malai Kofta with garlic naan. It’s really good.
The service is usually pretty good but sometimes there is a server or two that can be slow.

I was traveling through Bowling Green KY and was staying the nearby Hilton and therefore decided to try Taj Palace. It was within 2 miles of my hotel and therefore convenient to get a quick bite.
It is located in a strip shopping center however is sandwiched in between two other restaurants. I found that finding a parking space was very difficult at around 7PM local time. This was probably due to the restaurant traffic on the property. After struggling for about 20 minutes to find a parking spot I went inside the restaurant.
I was shown to a table very quickly near the bar area. The very first thing that I noticed was that the seats and tables were just too tightly spaced. I had trouble getting in my chair without disturbing the person who was sitting on the chair behind mine. I noticed a young couple having dinner at the table in front of mine (More on this later).
20 minutes went by. No one stopped at my table. No one brought water to my table. No one noticed that there was a new customer at that table. I finally stood up and called one of the staff members to stop by. From this point on, the service was fast and efficient however this cost the restaurant 2 stars in my review.
I ordered Scallops for an appetizer and Lamb Seekh Kababs for dinner. Scallops are nearly non-​existent on the menu of an Indian restaurant. The grilled scallops were presented very well (See the picture I posted) on a bed of tomato based sauce with spices. They tasted very good and the sauce amplified the flavors. I elected to finish eating the scallops along with a glass of wine which I just picked out randomly since the wine selection was very poor.
Meanwhile, back to the young couple I mentioned earlier, had finished their dinner and were trying to pay with their debit card. The restaurant manager had informed them that their card did not work. Both parties were speaking in normal tones however were loud enough so that the entire room can hear. The couple asked if they could leave and then come back with cash to pay the bill. The manager the said politely that it would be nice if one of them stayed back as collateral. I was beginning to crack up with scallops already in my face. One of the them stayed back while the other went out to get the cash and was actually back in less than 10 minutes to pay the bill. The collateral was returned to that person and then left the restaurant. The dialogue between the couple and the restaurant manager was quite funny.
Back to the main course. The seekh kababs arrived on the standard sizzling platter on a bed of onions and bell peppers. Dinner tasted about average however I am not complaining since the pricing of the entire menu was on the cheap side.
Bottom line, average Indian food, better than casual ambience however not high end and it could use a little touch of professionalism.

I was visiting Mammoth caves and found this place on my way. Thought of giving it a try since I found the reviews to be good.
Entered the place at around 5:30PM. When I entered, the ambience looked really good and so I thought food should be good enough to make my stomach happy! I ordered Paneer Kadai and Naan. The lady brought me few Papad as a starter and my intuition again said «food is going to be awesome». The lady within couple of minutes served the food which didn’t look good at all. As soon as took the first bite, I said «W T F» (seriously I didn’t YELL). The taste of the food was pathetic. I felt like I was served vegetable dipped inside tomato ketchup. I filled my stomach with the bread, since that was the only fresh thing on my table.
Would not recommend to anyone.

Ate here about 12 – 14 months ago while working in the area. Don’t remember really liking the food then, but it probably wasn’t offensive so I tried it again on a return trip. Perhaps 3 tables were occupied and even though the majority of the restaurant was empty I was seated adjacent to another couple. The service was slow. only one waiter on duty. The IPA I ordered was not available. I ordered the «aloo-​baingan». It was bland and more aloo (potato) than baingan (Eggplant) and I really wanted more of the latter. Perhaps this last point is why I gave it only 2 stars, but will not be returning as the food was very underwhelming.

Just passing through and saw this restaurant on Unilocal and decided to give it a try. We arrived at 12noon. We were not going to do the buffet, but when we noticed how fresh and hot it was, we went for the buffet. It was all delicious and not overly spicy as can be the problem with some Indian buffets. I’m not a huge eater, but I did go back for seconds on the buffet; especially the tandoori chicken and rice with masala sauce. The mango lassi was very good, too. We did not have dessert, and we determined that if we’re ever in town again, this will be a place where we will return.
I would have given 5 stars but 4 is as high as I go. Great place; good food.

Terrible. There were a lot of cars in the lot but no one was going into this restaurant.
The meat quality is low and the sauces might as well have been sugar. My husband and I ordered chicken korma and the lamb kabob. I could barely tell it was lamb. There wasn’t much to the meal that suggested «freshness».

I’ve been 3 times in the last 6 months while traveling through. I can always just «come as we are» even in jeans and a tee. However, the décor would suggest otherwise… It’s decorated in a somewhat pretentious manner.
I think the staff is friendly but misunderstood… They are not going to make small talk but if you ask questions, they are helpful and pretty interesting. (Most are from the other side of the world and have a great story to tell.)
The food is amazing. Always spot on and always perfect portions. The garlic naan is my absolute fave… I would eat it every meal if I could. I always try a new dish when I go and haven’t really found any that I dont like. Chicken tika masala is probably my go to dish if I had to just pick one though.
Only 4 stars because I believe there is always room for improvement. In this case, mainly the stuffy atmosphere.

As a True Indian: One of the worst India food i have ever ate in my Life.

Food is damn awful, Even Dogs and Beggars will not eat it.
Serving is even worst. You will spit on food. The food is also poisonous.
DONT EVEN THINK OF going to this restaurant. They are completely spoiling INDIAN Delicacies. They also charge more. Waste. Bakwaass!!! Garbage food!!! Idiot owners!!! They don’t have any respect for customers. They don’t even fill empty items. The maintenance is very very worst of the worst. The server always spill dirty food on your clothes. THEY DONT KNOW BASICS OF INDIAN COOKING. PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEE DONT GOOOOOOOO!!!

Good saag paneer, chicken curries, and naan, but don’t even bother with the lunch buffet. It’s cold, small, and gross. Decent lassis. Also, their host/​waiter flirts with female customers in a creepy way and follows you around the restaurant. Haven’t gone back. Go to Nashville for Indian instead.

This Restaurant is WELL WORTH going to, the atmosphere is very nice, & you can walk in as casual as you’d like. I was visiting from Georgia and did a Unilocal & read the other reviews, So I thought Great, I want to try it out. The Staff was EXTREMELY Friendly, Even though we were having a LATE dinner & walked in at 9:30pm, when They close at 10pm, The were very accomodating & suggested some choices. We ordered the Keema Naan, which is Lamb Bread, VERY TASTY, & The Entrée was Chicken Kadia, Very Tasty as well. The staff also told me about their Lunch Buffett for $ 9 from 11am — 2:30, I might try it before I leave Kentucky. If You are in the area & you like Indian food, or want to try this type of food, You MUST, go to the TAJ PALACE. ENJOY !!

A hidden treasure. I love Indian food and to honest I had my doubts about finding quality Indian food in Bowling Green KY but I stumbled into a charming dining room with a friendly staff and a talented kitchen. They had a short but quality list of Indian beers, select wines and a mango drink that the kids went wild about. The food was, in a word, wonderful. We did find the quality of the breads, while good, not as great as the main course. All in all it was truly an oasis of culinary delights hidden among a blistering desert of chain store boredom.

I’m on Spring Break visiting a friend in beautiful Bowling Green, Kentucky. Having spent most of the day in the field looking for specific types of wildflowers for her thesis and having had no more than some peanut butter and banana sandwiches to sustain us throughout the day, we were famished by the time we rolled back into Bowling Green this evening. Yesterday while she was giving me the grand tour of the city we had driven past Taj Palace. I had made a comment that I was surprised that a town the size of Bowling Green had an Indian restaurant as I live in a similarly sized town and the most exotic place we have is a Thai restaurant. My friend said that she had never tried it but had always wanted to go, so tonight our minds and growling stomachs turned back to the promise of Indian cuisine.
We walked into Taj Palace and almost immediately walked back out. It looked far too fancy for us in our slightly muddied field clothes. I spotted a stack of paper to-​go menus on the front counter and peeked inside. Luckily, the prices were reasonable and the waitress who greeted us did not appear at all put off by our rather rugged appearances. We were seated promptly and given papadam and spicy pickled vegetables to tide us over. I ordered the malai kofta and my friend ordered chicken vindaloo. We also both ordered roti and mango lassis.
The mango lassis came out first. They were creamy, tangy, and sweet but not too sweet. There is nothing worse than an over sweetened lassi, but these were close to perfection as far as lassis go. It was a struggle to not polish all of mine off before our actual food came out. When the food did come out, we were not disappointed. My malai kofta was perfectly seasoned and my friends chicken vindaloo was equally delicious. The portions at first blush appeared somewhat small for an Indian restaurant, but appearances were definitely deceiving and we both took home half our food for lunch tomorrow.
The waitstaff at Taj Palace was also great. Both of the people who were waiting tables tonight stopped by our table and chatted with us for a bit, but not in an intrusive manner. They were both just friendly and always ready with a joke, especially the older man who took our orders and refilled our water.
Altogether, Taj Palace is an incredible blessing for the people of Bowling Green who appreciate good ethnic food. If I lived here, I would definitely be a regular.
