CarMax

People please be carful when buying a used car from Carmax. They say the cars are certified but they are not. Carmax only guarantees for 30 days after that if you have an electrical problem with your car and they can’t figure out where the problem is your stuck with a car that stalls at random times. I bought the extra warranty for 3,000. Make sure you get this! My car has been in the repair shop 6 times before a year. If they can’t find what’s wrong with your car your stuck with a 100.00 fee plus the rental charges 40.00 a day. I’m a single mother struggling so to get a car that stalls and they can’t figure it out is extremely scary. The car started stalling at 2 months so they wouldn’t give me a different car. They are not certified! Be careful!

Had an amazing salesman Steve who showed me around to test drive two vehichles (after carmax pompano beach had a car put on hold with a sales order new years eve so I could come back the next day with my cosigner and process paperwork etc. And I called 3 times confirming, loaded parents into car and drove them down, 5 minutes before I got there called back and said car was sold the night previous (aka they sold it before the first time they told me they wrote up a sales order and put it on hold for me…)) one of the two vehicles was VERY smokey smelling, so Steve said he would get it cleaned… I came BACK THE NEXT DAY with my cosigner to test drive/​she them the two cars and to make a decision, Steve was busy (even though I made an apointment) so he passed me off to who I now refer to as the worst salesman ever (aka WSE)… WSE shows me first car and in an abrasive manner tells me it’s not what I want and drives it off to be parked. Tells us he will be back in less than 5 minutes with the keys to other vehicle so we can test drive… 20 – 30 mins later after baking in the sun outside (cosigner has a cast on foot and couldn’t walk back to building easily.) … he finally returns and starts in about how all these other vehicles are what I want, blah blah blah… finally convince WSE to let me test the car I came there to sign paperwork on in reality… on test drive calls me foolish/​dumb for driving around and test driving other cars, tells me every reason possible why I don’t want the car I’m in, calls me and my mother poor essentially, told us he worked on comissions and test driving ONE car was wasting his time… kept on insulting me until I has to yell at him after he rolled his eyes at me twice… If my mother has not been there, I was so disrespected it would have become me assaulting a salesman in the carmax parking lot… disrespected me so much I had to walk out of your store before I made him eat his own teeth. I have never had such a bad sales experience, and have never felt the need to get physical with a car salesman before now… not only will I NOT be buying the 24 thousand dollar car I was looking at, I will be going back in today to make a formal complaint with the GM and also with corporate… I Will never shop at a carmax again after the level of disrespect I was shown… I’m sure I’m forgetting half the insulting back talking comments he made to me, I was so
the end of the test drive it was all I could do from stopping myself dragging WSE out the car and making him eat his teeth in your parking lot… if he had said half the things he said to me and I wasn’t somewhere where there was video cameras… dude would have woken up in a hospital wondering what happened… Will also be filing complains with every online rating service, carmax Facebook page etc… Was treated so poorly I cannot let this go… and the worst part???
I actually wanted/​needed the car I was looking at and was ready to sign, stuck down in FL until I get a car and drive back home, missing work over this…
And of course I am sure Carmax will do NOTHING to make this right…

Fast, friendly, efficient and no bull… Traditional car dealers should maybe give this strategy a try… You wouldn’t see so many ugly cars dragging around on the streets? Leo, my salesman was both efficient and patient. Way to go!

I booked an appraisal appointment with Nicole prior to my arrival. When we got there at the appointed time she was not available. After waiting 15 mins and not being seen to by anyone we have up and went over the road to Cardrop. They were polite and saw us immediately. They bought our car at a good price in 20 mins. Thank you Carmax-​your unprofessional service lead me to a superior business and more money for my car! Go to Cardrop!

I specifically started using Unilocal just so I can write this review. This place is horrible if you are looking to purchase a car! I would never recommend a friend/​family here. I purchased a BMW in May of this year and there’s been so many problems. I’m literally at Carmax every other week getting something new fixed & I HATE IT. I can write a list of all the things I have gotten fixed on my car. I have paid tons of money & it’s never satisfying. I’ve asked to speak to the auto service manager & even left voicemail messages for him to contact me back & I’ve never heard from him. The customer reps are not the best, nice on the phone but when in urgent need, they do not answer or here to help. I don’t know what in the hell is wrong with their auto technicians because NOTHING ever gets fixed. I always have to come back a week later. They have NEVER voluntarily given me a loaner to use while they fix my car. It is so inconvenient and not fair at all. Their own towing company (Velocity Towing) has even told me that they’ve had to tow many cars over there & that they are bad. I’m in the process to call corporate and further express my frustrations with Carmax because it is really getting out hand & right about now, I wish I have NEVER purchased a vehicle here!

Sold my Lexus IS300, out of all the small, local shops, & small used car dealers this place was able to give me the best deal on my car. Actually a whole $ 1,000 extra to be precise.

We knew driving in that our 2001 Suburban with almost 200 000 miles on it was not going to appraise well, and it didn’t; but Red Pierre took us from junker to our dream car flawlessly. Our credit isn’t great, but he came up with 3 financing options … Kudos to Matt as well for answering our website inquiry and got the ball rolling. Great experience. Beautiful car. I came to Carmax because my boss told me I would get the best deal for my trade in. I was planning on actually buying my next car from an acquaintance somewhere else and just getting money for my trade in here (which you can do but my plans changed). I was greeted right away by Greg who was a new employee and apparently it was his 1^st week on the floor. I’m in sales myself and while that may make someone nervous, I was happy for him to practice on me. Greg helped me shop the way I wanted and I ended up finding a car I fell in love with. I got a great deal on my trade in (about 300 more than elsewhere) and he gave me 4 finance options to choose from. Greg could not answer all my questions so he would get his supervisors on hand that day (Ron and Stella) to come in anytime he got stumped. I was ok with that. What I was not ok with was that niether Ron or Stella would just stay with him on what I much later found out was his 1^st sale. There were MANY MANY mistakes that were made that could have been prevented and what should have took a couple hrs took all day. Wells Fargo offered me the best finance rate but being that I just moved 2 weeks prior I wasnt prepared to show proof of residence. Ron told me to come back in 5 days with something from the bank that shows my name and address and they could switch me over. I took the higher rate for now and scheduled a switch of shifts at work so I could be back in time to handle that. I came back 3 days later with a statement from the bank and the supervisor on hand that day (JD) asked me to log into my account on the computer they had there. He printed up a statement and said the finance company would want the paper to show it was printed from their side. If that is the case then why would Ron tell me to come back with it? He must have known whatever I brought in wouldn’t be good enough and was banking on me just taking the higher deal and not come back. So now my car had to be returned and resold back to me. You can imagine how much I was looking forward to another day of problems but this second trip was flawless. JD and Matt really took the time to tell me everything and went out of their way to turn my opinion around about the company. Matt is an exceptional employee and did all the work himself and I was out in less than 45 mins. I can tell this company does make it easier to buy a car but unfortunately the 1^st time around I had a couple of supervisors that just didnt care about me or the new guy on their shift. It’s a great thing they had Matt and JD there that 2^nd day. I would come back now because of them.

This review involves selling a car to Carmax. I went to the Boynton location yesterday to get an estimate on selling my car. The written estimate was $ 15,000. Today I went to a dealer to buy a new care. Their estimate-​$ 9,000! Shocking! I went back to Carmax and, within 30 minutes, left with a check for $ 15,000. DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT trade in a car without taking it to Carmax first. One other thing, I got the appraisal in Boynton and they honored the appraisal in Pompano which was more convenient to my purchase. Great experience!

Very impressed… Manager John Haskins was extremely professional and very responsive to phone calls and emails regarding a minor issue I had. He made sure to resolve the issue to my satisfaction and I would not hesitate buying another vehicle there.

I visited yesterday to check out a couple of cars. A gentleman by the name of Matt was assigned to assist me in the process. It took about 45 – 60 minutes to test drive both vehicles and he was very patient. After the test drive, Matt answered all my questions regarding buying a car from carmax, except for one: I asked him what would happen if we got into an accident while out on a test drive. Both cars I test drove were in very good to excellent condition.
Overall, a great experience, although I didn’t buy a car from them that day. I’ll update the rating and the review once I decide which car to buy.

Brought my 2009 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited X here to get an offer. Between CarMax, Off Lease Only, and Lexus of Palm Beach, this place offered me the most (which was also within the KBB value). Ultimately I ended up selling to another place who matched their offer when I agreed to buy a car from them (CarMax did not have what I was looking for at that time). I find that CarMax offers reasonable prices when trying to sell your vehicle; however, charge a little more for vehicles they sell compared to other dealerships (ex: AutoNation)

I’ve been down this road before so it helped that I knew the process. Came in to test drive 3 cars. They were accommodating.

When appraising my car they put 265 miles on it in just over 3 hours. I have been trying to speak with someone at the store and they will not return my calls.

While Carmax may not be perfect, what is? I understand that it’s hard to know much about every possible type of car, but it’s important to really focus on each customer and sale and make sure they get the most important info.
Having said that, I just bought my 3^rd car from Carmax. Every transaction has been very pleasant and smooth. Every car has been great. Carmax really does take a lot of care to put good cars on the lot and prep them well.
This transaction was very easy. I think it was because I knew what I wanted and Felicia understood that and did not crowd me or desert me. Perfect! Because I didn’t have a lot of time, the need to run in with my drivers license for scanning was a bit annoying, but Felicia was quick. Maybe Carmax could have the sales force use their smart phones for that!
Also, I didn’t know the car required premium gas, but it seemed like Felicia knew and didn’t mention it. I would think that would be something you tell the customer, because premium gas is expensive and I’m a working guy!
Anyway, the car is great, the process was smooth and relaxed and I am happy. I’ll be back!

I saw that Carmax’s car service hours were until 6pm. So I call this Carmax and they tell me their hours are until 4pm. So I make an appointment to have my car serviced. Unfortunately due to bad directions (given to me by an employee) I got their a few minutes late. Instead of holding on, Carmax allows the mechanics to leave 20 minutes before 4pm. They don’t even have weekend hours so in order to get my car serviced I need to take off of work or wait till a holiday.
Carmax needs to be a bit more flexible, and extend their hours.

Just completed the purchase of a car at the CarMax (from Joe Caruso) in Boynton Beach, Florida. BEST car purchase experience we have ever had, and we have been buying/​selling cars for over 30 years. We live in DC, but purchased a place in West Palm, so looking for a nice, reliable car to have when we are in Florida.
Looked on line extensively for a good value used car for ~$ 20k. Found many cars with numerous dealers. Headed to one dealer to see their stock and got the high pressure, time consuming experience we had feared… we did NOt want to spend a lot of time, just wanted to find a car and buy it, not have them ask a million questions, get the manager to talk to us, etc. We are experienced buyers, just wanted to see the damn cars and make our own decision. At the dealer it took FOREVER to get the keys for each car to test drive, for the salesman to find each car on the lot, etc. a HUGE time waste.
Then we looked into CarMax for the first time. The website was awesome, made it SO easy to sort through their cars. It was the BEST experience ever. Thankfully we met Joe Caruso who was knowledgeable, efficient, very pleasant and got us exactly what we wanted with NO pressure, was able to open any car on the lot with his key, didn’t mind us test driving several cars, transferred (free of charge) a car from their Miami location, that we wanted to see, etc. We communicated through text messages (at my request) so it was efficient, brief and convenient to communicate during the whole process. When we purchased the car we were out and on our way in about 30 minutes.

Oh, did I mention that all of the CarMax cars are beautiful, with full Car Fax reports. Seriously a fabulous place that makes me want to continue buying used cars (this was a first)…who knew!

After a really bad accident where my car was totaled (and no, I was not at fault), I needed to find a replacement vehicle. I’ve always had new cars, but this time around I couldn’t afford a new car price. Enter CarMax. I had several key features I wanted in my next vehicle (namely leather, a navigation system and XM radio), so I used CarMax’s very handy website to search for cars that fit my criteria.
I visited several stores, equipped with a list of each vehicle I wanted to test drive. At this location, I met a sales consultant named Mark Garver, who was extremely helpful, friendly and patient with me as I test drove several different cars. He was knowledgeable about them, and took me on a great test drive route that allowed me to experience each car on the highway as well as the back roads. It allowed me to get a great feel for each car.
I ended up purchasing a car from a different CarMax location that was much closer to me, so I regret not being able to help Mark earn a commission on the sale. But I would not hesitate in recommending him to anyone in the area who is in the market for a car. CarMax really does have some great employees, and Mark is definitely one of them.
