YMCA of Boynton Beach

Absolutely love this place! Awesome staff who treat you like family! Great family atmosphere! A lot of sports leagues for the youth! I highly highly recommend this Y.

I’ve been with YMCAs since I was a teenager. This particular one has honestly been the worst.
First, the cardio area is horrible. If you rely on cardio for the majority of your workout don’t bother going here. The treadmills are lined up against the wall. So your either looking at the wall while running or looking out the window. At first I thought looking out the window while running was nice until I realized the windows are reflective and basically act as a mirror. Who wants the look at themselves while running?!? Also when the sun is setting the light shines through and raises the temp. and blinds you. There aren’t even blinds to roll down.
Next, there is only a tiny mat area to stretch or do body exercises. And if that mat is full you have to take an individual mat and place it out in the open where people are constantly walking by. Not to mention, there are always classes going on in the mornings and evenings that hog the mat area and they don’t even consider leaving extra space.
The gym is overall pretty dirty, I’ve seen dirtier places but this Y is not as clean as you would think considering the prices they charge you. Ive maybe seen people wipe down the equipment a handful of times, key word MAYBE. And after using one of the mats one day I wiped it down afterwords and the towel was filled with dirt and dust. GROSS.
The reception also sucks. My music constantly goes in and out. Also a deal breaker for me.
After moving from up north I was really hoping to find a Y that was just as good as the last one I was a member of. The boynton one just didn’t do it for me. If you’re like me and mostly do cardio and exercises on a mat, I would reconsider.

I have been a member here for almost five years and I believe it’s only gotten better. My daughter has attended pre school and two years of summer camp. She has made many friends and loves kid care. My baby is well taken care of in Child watch, all of the care givers are simply amazing. The classes are great, varying levels for challenging workouts. The gym itself is good, new machines and helpful staff all around. Overall friendly and social atmosphere. A+++

Just read a poor review of this YMCA so I sharing my experience. I’m giving four stars since there is room for improvement.
Here is my full disclosure:
The YMCA is near and dear to my heart. I really can never repay the Y for all it has done for me so I volunteer at this Y in order to give back to an organization that has given so much to me, my family and the community.
When I was a boy I learned to swim at our local YMCA in Florissant, Missouri. Years later those skills were INVALUABLE in a near drowning event my family had in a river in Missouri. My 3 year old son nearly drown and I’m certain I would have if not for my knowledge of swimming that all started at the Y.
The swimming programs at this Y helped turn my son’s fear of water due to nearly drowning into a healthy respect for water and now he swims at the Y nearly every week! So I volunteer and support this Y to show my gratitude.
If you are experiencing an issue with this Y, please seek out the executive director, I’m certain they will at least take the time to hear your complaint and make their best efforts to resolve it.
We love this Y and have experienced some issues but raised them to the executive director who did address the issues. It took some time but they were resolved in a matter of months.
We have had some classes canceled due to weather and had some kids sports where the coach did not show and we had a substitute coach. But nothing out of the ordinary and not a common occurrence from our experience.
We have had kids in basketball, swimming, summer camps and as adults we have had personal training sessions, kettle ball, and yoga classes with no cancellations except for weather.
I think it’s important to realize the YMCA is more than a gym, it’s a community and mission to support fitness, diabetes prevention, drowning prevention within the Y community and the surrounding community of Boynton Beach.
To fully appreciate this Y or any Y for that matter, I suggest volunteering for this non-​profit organization to fully appreciate what it does for the community and the challenges they face.

The fitness instructors here are great, too bad the fitness director is clueless and cannot make a decent fitness schedule. At least twice a month, a class is cancelled with no notice until you are sitting and waiting for an instructor to arrive and then they don’t. On the rare occasion that a sub is scheduled, they usually do not teach anything related to the class they are subbing for. This gym was amazing when I started two years ago but has declined a lot in the last year. How anyone can keep their job with such a poor success rate is beyond me. In January they raised my rate ($ 92) but cut two classes I loved and replaced them with senior classes. LA fitness is less than half the price so I will be switching there next month because nothing has improved as I had hoped, only continued to decline with this horrible director running it into the ground.

I wish I could say I liked my experience at this Y. But their cardio area has some of the worst ellipticals I’ve ever had the misfortune to use. Some of their ArcTrainers are without arm resistance, and on the whole, it wasn’t terrific. Lots of treadmills, if your knees can stand it.

We like this Y. Lots of activities for the kids. Plenty of cardio, spin, stretching classes. The staff is very friendly & helpful. Also well kept, very clean.

Joined the YMCA a week ago and I love it so far! I’ve only used the gym and locker rooms so far. The pool and jacuzzi look amazing and can’t wait to use those as well. Everyone is super friendly.

I did not know that hiding prices from taxpayers is a ‘Christian Principle” !
YMCA is supported by taxpayers in many ways. They pay virtually no taxes, and receive taxpayer support from almost every governmental agency (City, County, State & Federal). In return for this massive taxpayer subsidy, they purposely hide the ACTUAL PRICES for membership from their website, preferring to treat the taxpayers considering joining to old fashioned ‘used car sales’ techniques. (THE FIRST STEP IN JOINING IS TO SCHEDULE A VISIT !). NO THANKS !
This is a disgusting slap in the face to the taxpayers in an age of increasing financial transparency. While consumers can now Google their prices and learn them unofficially, why should they have to ?

We love the Y in Boynton. We have a family membership and the kids attend various athletics (soccer, basketball, cheer leading) and we also use the gym and pool as well. The pool can get crowded but its not bad. My daughters also take the Self Defense class on Monday and Friday and they really have a good time. I couldn’t imagine not using the Y. They offer so many activities to keep us busy… and while its technically a Christian organization they do not force any of their members to partake in any sort of religious events… No prayer before games, nothing… And for that I thank you.
