Holy teen hangout! Tip: Do not go here on a Fri or Sat night. They used to do Wednesday nights as adult only nights(maybe that has changed) — that’s the night to go, but watch out for the disco dude speed racers. They knocked me over every time and then gave me a dirty look. There are tons of really good skaters here– I was not the worst, but pretty close. The snack bar is gross looking and the bathroom is near impossible to use with skates. Overall a nice floor and things though. Overall A-OK.

Be prepared for almost an hour trip from metro Boston, folks. I’ve been to the Thursday night adult skates many times, and my reaction always has been«meh.» The music ranges from totally awesome to totally not awesome. Some nights are great, some are not. If you are not an extremely experienced skater, be prepared for those who are. And be prepared for those people to not be very sympathetic. I’ve been skating for roller derby for a year and a half and still was tripped and hit the last time I was there.

After my second night of roller skating I can see a trend starting to form. For the longest time I thought that roller rinks were gone and the fans who loved them. Surely, I was wrong and that roller rinks are very much alive and well, just hard to come by. Most are out of the way in distant, almost rural locations. The exterior buildings are very much the same with the exception of a few new coats of paint. Each share the same space themed printed rugs and walls while loud upbeat music blasts in a room filled with colorful lights. Tonight is Thursday and that means it’s adult night. 18+ filled with skaters looking for a good time to jam-on! Most come with their own skates are fresh set of moves. Unfortunately, for me, I am still trying to keep up with my girlfriend who has a long history of skating and find large crowds to be intimidating. Especially when there is very little room to move and everybody here has no problem squeezing by to keeping continuously skating. A few times I had to cautiously make my way over to the rail to get some space from the fast people. Surprisingly there are a large amount of middle-aged skaters here who move to the middle of the floor to solo dance. Most of them are very good, are not shy, mostly single men(I think) and sporting retro facial hair. Prices are good $ 7.00 Admission & $ 3.00 skate rental. Rent your skates and surrender your shoes. There are lockers but I doubt they hold more than your skates. There isn’t any food allowed inside or drinks. However, they have small snack stand on the opposite side of the entrance serving very bad pizza for $ 1.25 a slice. If you’re hungry before or after find some place with more food. If you’re not too into skating it’s a great place to come and people watch; however, it can get boring pretty fast without any excitement on the rink. Try to get into the skating and work at your own pace.

Wow kids, I must tell you Thursday nights at Skateland is HOT! We went this past Thursday evening for«Adult Night» and what a blast we had. Open skate under disco lights, with fun club music blasting. Tonz of gays and mixed crowd, the roller derby gurls kicked ass. $ 6 cover a sweet deal. Friendly crowd. A fun weeknight evening out. If only they had a bar.
