This is the kind of lake that makes you wish you had a boat. Even still, we enjoying driving around the area and taking in the view. We didn’t have time for the walking dam tour. The dam is worth taking some time to explore on your own. The man made reservoir was constructed in 1954 – 1958 on the White River by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. There are several commercial marinas along the lake as well as Table Rock State Park. There is also a fish hatchery that stocks Lake Taneycomo. Just another point of interest to explore while in Branson.

While exploring Branson, we stop by Table Rock Dam to marvel at it’s massive 252 foot height above the riverbed and 6,423 foot length(17 football fields). Proposed in 1906, it was a long time coming to it’s completion in 1958 which provided both flood control and hydro-electric power. They have a parking area on the North end of the Dam high up overlooking the lake and Dam. It was truly the best Dam view I’ve ever seen! I didn’t know thousands of yards of concrete could be so Dam beautiful! They offer a lot of Dam tours at various times, so call ahead to get your Dam reservations. I can’t think of another Dam thing to say so I’m going to end this Dam review. Be sure to stop by the Dewey Short Visitor Center for interactive exhibits, educational artifacts and a 20 minute film on the history of the area and construction of the dam. At the base of the dam is the SH Fish Hatchery where children can see and feed bass waiting to be released into the lake to help keep fish population levels excellent. Hope this Dam review was useful!
