Honestly, Julian is the best server I’ve ever had — and coming from NYC, I eat out often. Great server, 10 out of 10.

Very good authentic japanese food. Their sushi are very fresh and their sushi chefs masa-san and taka-aniki are very good, personable, and like to joke around like family. Masako-san(owner) will treat you like a family. Great ambiance, great beer and great sushi! Nothing can beat it!

My folks and I went here once with a coupon(never expires) several months ago 1st half of the year. It wasn’t bad. We want to go back with another coupon, but its hours are weird like on Sundays(don’t like going out that late) and weekdays’(closed from 2PM to 5PMPT). It’s hard to go there! :(

This place WAS good. Man how do you get this bad from where you were a few years ago? The little japanese girl that is a waitress there is extremely RUDE and tries to pull a «im excited» tone of voice to cover her rudeness. The food took forever and it just wasn’t good. Humid and a little warm inside. I dont know what her deal is but she needs an attitude adjustment. Your lucky i was with a quest. I would have made you look silly.

We decided to come here for some hot dinner on a slightly chilly night. Lots of options on the menu including your standard Japanese staples of udon and soba. Our waitress was very friendly and made our first time experience very comfortable. I love the cozy feeling of the restaurant as well. We decided to split a sukiyaki entrée and we enjoyed it very much. The broth was very delicious and the amount of food was just enough for two people to enjoy without being stuffed. I recommend you take advantage of their free appetizer deal with International Coffee House as well(I also recommend this great coffee shop). Our first time at Ichiban was very welcoming and comfortable. The various fliers for menu items under the glass table is a bit yesterday but it’s something I can live with. I’d love to come back and try more of their menu.

Great place for sushi. Taka, the chef was welcoming and hilarious(sushi bar). Great spot for some authentic sushi & sashimi. If your tired of sushi chains and you can get over the strange pungent smell at the entrance you’ll enjoy this food.

I’m a vegetarian and I’ve been here 4 – 5 times. I usually get either their tofu salad, cucumber roll, or Avocado roll, and today I tried their udon soup. And for dessert I always get mochi! My favorite meal has been the crunchy avocado roll with udon noodle soup, hot green tea, and mochi. But my favorite part about going here is the server, Ira! She’s always happy to see us and very friendly and smiling! She remembers what we usually have and where we sit. I’m actually not working around this area anymore so I can’t visit as often and it’s bumming me out!

I give their food a 5 but the service a four. The spicy tuna roll melts in your mouth and is sooooo great. The calamari was nice and crunchy. Service, our waitress was polite, it just took a very long time for an order of four things. Other than that it was good!

Your customer service was good but not great. having to ask for ginger is really annoying at a sushi restaurant. really? I think it’s because you are cheap. your interior is from the dated 90s and thats being generous. the layout of the dining area is very cramped. I had to ask for refills every time my cup was empty. and worst of all, you serve me a glass and plate that are chipped. obviously cheap, get rid of your broken wares. and your music definitely stinks, I don’t want to listen to the entire Beatles album. I shared the seafood boat with my mom. the sashimi didn’t include salmon sashimi. what?! the teriyaki salmon was over cooked and dry. and your sushi rice was too mushy. blah. i even ordered more… a tuna roll and caterpillar roll, both lacking in quality. the only thing that had flavor was the plum wine ice cream.

Ichiban’s new poke bowl is the best I have ever had! Tuna salmon albacore yellowtail, topped with a delicious one of a kind sauce, sesame seeds, and pieces of pineapple or mango :) could eat it everyday! Served over rice or salad.

Bought vouchers twice from We lived in this area for a while and never knew this place existed. The owner(Japanese woman with the white husband) told us they’ve been in this same location for like 20+ years. They are located in the very inside corner of the shopping center. Went there twice with the voucher. The service was good both times. The owner lady was very friendly, especially my wife speaks Japanese so they were talking. The food was ok, however. We order a variety of items during our 2 trips. I think all I can say is they were OK. Nothing jumped out at me. Nothing was like… wow, that was really good. So I wouldn’t go back at full price. Even if there is discount voucher, I still have to think twice.

This has been an overdue review. We’ve been a loyal customer and have been coming here for 8+ years. Family owned business. Always happy to see us. We normally talk to the owners when we are there and they are very nice and accommodating. The only place I know in Brea where the sous chefs are Japanese, where all other places are not. Service is notably good all the time. We normally get the family boat for dinner and if we go there for lunch, they use to offer the bento box. We don’t usually go there for lunch. Food for us has always been good. We love their«hot or cold green tea» We’ve been to several Japanese restaurant and by far this is the best green tea we’ve tasted. Some of their desserts are also good.

Instant creepy vibes as you walk in. Out of date décor. Very bland. Very quiet. Very awkward! The restaurant is a decently large size. However they sat everyone in a very small secluded section and it felt so claustrophobic. I could hear EVERYONE’S conversation. I could even feel the body heat of the person behind me! The food… BAD! The sushi was warm and had no flavor at all. I only ate it all because I was so hungry! I only went because I had a voucher. The waitress was very nice! Hence the 1 star. Safe to say I will never return. I think they need to take the customer’s comfort into consideration and take more pride in their food.

Food here was good but nothing exceptional. To me, Japanese food is a dime a dozen in our area, especially when it comes to chicken teriyaki, miso soup, tempura, etc. What would’ve been necessary for Ichiban to stand out would’ve been the quality of the sushi. Unfortunately the sushi was average as well. Nothing that is memorable and nothing that is going to be worth writing home about. Maybe if the prices were lower there would be a market for return visits, however you’re better off going to a Kabuki for getting your fix. The redeeming factor that Ichiban has it is definitely the service! Everybody was so friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. I enjoyed that we had conversations w/our servers that really made the night sparkle. On top of that, the food came out fast!

It was a Friday and my co-workers wanted to come to Ichiban for lunch. At the time we showed up, it was practically empty so that could have easily been both a good or a bad thing. Service was notably good. Our server was accommodating and didn’t mind splitting our bill even after we had already received our check. I ordered the agedashi tofu and a low carb roll hand roll. My coworkers ordered veggie rolls and a ginger chicken bowl. They had a lot of options for reasonably priced lunch specials which I thought was pretty cool. Our food came quick and looked appetizing. My tofu was OK. I’ve had agedashi tofu at numerous other place that I enjoyed more. My roll was also alright, nothing to write home about. I think my coworkers enjoyed their food though. Not a bad place for lunch, though it definitely wouldn’t be my first pick.
