Really great experience here this past week! I was rushing to get a last minute appointment to do balayage and called to see if anyone was available that day — luckily for me, Courtney was able to squeeze me in. It was easy to book the appointment by phone, when I got there everyone was super nice, and the whole experience was great. I showed her some pictures and she did exactly that and offered me additional services to maintain my hair.
Whole process was easy and carefree. Thank you! Will definitely be back.

I started going to Salon 5150 several months ago… It is a wonderful, awesome salon!
I have always gone to Garrett and can’t say enough good things about him! He really listens and does an amazing job. I get compliments all.the.time from random people, colleagues, and friends, about how great my haircut and color are. Seriously! This past week I had to go to Vegas for a work event. I went to an upscale salon/​spa simply for an «updo» (no cut or color) due to a big event that we were to attend one night. And, the stylist there said to me «whoever colors your hair does a fantastic job».
I could go on and on… But, needless to say, I highly recommend Garrett to anyone!

Salon 5150 is the best in town. I have been with Nona, the owner, for quite some time now and I have seen first hand her awesome skills. All of the hair stylists are fab and provide excellent results. I highly recommend checking out the salon. You won’t be disappointed and will most likely be a long time customer like me.

Can’t lie I have totally been salon shopping in hopes to find one I like… today I did! Called salon at opening inquiring of possible early available appointment. Happily surprised I was able to squeeze in. The appointment was set with Marisa and I couldn’t have been any happier. Found a great salon today & stylist. Marisa is totally attentive, takes pride in her work, and I walked out feeling amazing. If your looking for a great stylist, Marisa is highly recommended.

Doug cancelled my appointment a day before I leave for my holiday. I am so bummed about it it’s very disappointing. Although the lady on the phone was nice to try and book with some one else but. I just am so sad Doug did that.

This is my second time at salon 5150 with my super stylist Doug !!! You are an amazing artist those magical hands are the best I ever found, trust you 100% with my hair and i feel so secure that you always will do and excellent job … you always have a smile and a beautiful personality that’s another thing you can’t find anywhere else, you are the BEST.

I went to Salon 5150 about two weeks ago wanting to dye my hair a deep purple with some lighter purple highlights. I found Doug on Instagram and he worked a miracle on my hair! I couldn’t even imagine that my hair would turn out as well as it did. He did a balayage on my hair and it came out perfect! Exactly what I imagined and more. I am constantly getting compliments on the color, and how perfectly subtle the color is, with a bit of pop. The color has lasted, which is unusual for such an unnatural color, so I am very happy with the results. He was very sweet and helpful!
Definitely recommend him and the salon in general. Everyone was very friendly there and very helpful. Go to Doug O’Connell if you can! Very efficient!

I was so excited to come to this salon after going through hundreds of pictures on Instagram and and thinking Doug O’Connell would be the right stylist for me. Turns out I was wrong. As soon as I got to the salon I asked him if he had read my email that I had sent him a week ago and his answer was «I am really busy and I have a lot of clients so I didn’t get to it.» And I thought to myself so why does it say on your Instagram to email you and wouldn’t it have helped you to know more about me and what I want by reading your clients email? And if this is your career don’t you think you should take a little bit more seriously and at least get back to people that you will be meeting with? We are all busy but it’s called organization and prioritizing. Or hire an assistant/​intern!
After I explained what I wanted (which was written clearly in the email with pictures of my past color) he said «well I only have a little time with you since you’re 30 minutes late.»
30 minutes late? I have proof my text the confirmation is for 11:15 and I was there exactly on the dot. He then felt stupid and said he now has time (with an attitude). And I said «well I thought you just said you don’t have time» then he said «well I do now so what can I do for you?»
Some may think I’m being sensitive but After everything I have gone through with my hair, after every stylist who had not heard me correctly, after spending so much time and money and not getting the results I wanted, I really was just looking forward to being at this salon and being in the hands of a stylist whose IG portfolio looked good and seems to know what he’s doing. But I completely broke down to tears because I clearly «judged a book by its cover» and first impressions mean so much especially when it comes to someone changing your self image.
I guess the one star is for one stylist name Nicole who came outside to see if I was OK after bawling my eyes out. She asked me if I wanted to set an appointment with her. I would’ve but at that point I was so let down and frustrated I just wanted to go home and drive all the way back to Newport.

I’m still unsure what went wrong with my session, but I was completely unsatisfied after getting home and closely examining my hair in the mirror! I got a haircut and coloring by a male stylist here and… first, I asked for a long bob I ended up getting a trim and he thinned it out a bit. I thought maybe he thought a trim would suit the shape of my face and his coloring he is about to do… WRONG! :(
I had high expectations of the stylist I made my appointment with after seeing his work on Instagram and I really wanted a dark chocolate brown to caramel blond ombré. Honestly, I really liked his work and I even showed him HIS own work and told him I wanted that specific color and cut… but I don’t know what went wrong with my hair! I pretty much had caramel golden tones on top to an orangey blond tone and at one point there was platinum blond patches on the bottom — which I discovered at home after my mom lifted half my hair to see the blended technique.
Similar to another fellow Unilocaler, my stylist probably left the bleach in too long and I had only discovered it after taking a closer look at home. The price was not cheap and I wish the outcome was more worth it. I am disappointed with the whole experience and result but for the record, my stylist’s work is eye catching. I just really wished you gave me more than «this is just the highlights» when I asked what you were putting on my hair and the fact I asked for a HAIRCUT not trim.

I’m super picky with hair salons due to them usually being overpriced, snooty and having subpar work.
I was referred to Angie through a client of hers and followed her here to 5150.
Angie was hands down the sweetest most down to earth hair stylist I’ve ever encountered. She constantly made sure I was comfortable and was super welcoming. My hair looks AMAZIIIING! I got a sun kissed balayage and it looks so natural, I will continue coming back to this salon specifically for her!
Everyone else seemed really friendly too,
the receptionist offers you coffee and other drinks and snacks while you wait and the prices were reasonable. Definitely will be returning!

I went to a girlfriend to get my highlights redone because my regular girl was out of town and didn’t have time for me. My friend hasn’t worked in a salon for a very, very long time and we did the highlights in her kitchen. Well, bless her heart it went horribly wrong. Bleed marks and all different colors. I was really yellow blonde on top and brown on the bottom. I called salon 5150 and was nervous going to a new place. The staff said Nicole was great at clot correct. Oh she was! I am SoOo happy that I found her! I already went back again for more

This is my updated review for Doug!
During my last appointment I had asked for an ash ombré and showed pictures to the stylist. When everything was done it looked very warm and nothing close to what I had asked for. I thought maybe it’ll grow onto me in a few days, but it didn’t. I noticed it was very streaky and there were bands of color where the bleach was placed. I wanted a balayage ombré where it’s very gradual and blended out. Nona the salon owner contacted me right away when she saw my message and was very accommodating. She helped me book my appointment with Doug and also mentioned no charge because I wasn’t happy with my service and was more than willing to have it fixed.
When I came to Doug he asked me how I wanted my hair and showed me various samples of what my hair was going to look like. I can tell that while he was doing my hair he was very passionate about what he was doing and wants to make the client very happy. I left the salon extremely satisfied with my experience! I can’t wait to go back to Doug so he can get me to the hair color I want :)
