My mom has been at Bay Pointe for a year now. We haven’t had any big issues to deal with so I can’t comment on how they might get handled. But so far so good. Since moving in they have changed the Director, the Leasing Agent, and the Activity Director. My only big issue at this stage is the food. It is VERY high in carbs with lots of breaded and fried foods. They are VERY low in fruits and vegetables. As an example their chef’s salad is iceburg lettuce with deli cheese, deli meat, etc. My mom has asked that they add better leafy greens like spinach, kale, or leaf lettuce, but it doesn’t happen. Fruits are the typical under ripe strawberries and melons added to the plate more as a decoration than a «serving». The staff knows if you are diabetic and will push«sugarless» items. They totally ignore the fact that carbs are as bad as actual sugar. Mom started gaining weight as soon as she moved in. I have to add that I think too many of the residents are reluctant to ask for what they want. It may be a generational thing or because they are not as able to communicate as they once were. It’s unfortunate. As an example, when a plate arrives at the table cold they should ask the staff to correct it, but they seldom will, feeling they are asking for too much. Bay Pointe has a lot of good features! The staff is very friendly and supportive of the residents. The building is always clean and well maintained. There are lots of activities. No place is perfect. Bay Pointe is very good.
