Small Bridge with a long History, The Manette Bridge, Spanning the Port Washington Narrows, Connects Bremerton with Manette(A town annexed by Bremerton in 1918) The original Bridge finished it’s construction in 1930. It even beat out the Tacoma Narrows bridge which wasn’t built until 1940. The 1570 feet long Bridge saved drivers a 16.5 mile drive around Dyes Inlet. It started to become insufficient to carry the increasing Shipyard Traffic in the late 40’s &50’s. The Warren Avenue Bridge, constructed in 1958 helped to alleviate the situation. However, Inevitably the narrow, two-lane bridge was determined inadequate in the 2000s and scheduled for replacement. In the Spring of 2010, construction began on a replacement bridge. The new Manette Bridge opened Nov. 10, 2011. The event was attended by more than 400 people and marked the end of a four-month closure, during which crews completed the construction of a wider, safer structure. the bridge features 11-foot-wide lanes and 5-foot-wide shoulders. Also a 10-foot-wide pedestrian walkway provides access across the bridge to an expanded Whitey Domstad Viewscape in Manette.
