El Gallito Drive Inn

We like El Gallito, and decided to order from their catering menu for our daughter’s graduation party. We ordered tamales, quesadillas, burritos, beans and rice. The food was great, reasonably priced and a huge hit. We will definitely use them again for a big party.

I went to there stand at the farmers market the other day and I was disgusted because they were washing the plastic utensils with a wet cloth and putting them back out for public use. This is definitely a health code violation. A child under 12 was washing this plasticware in a bucket and I’m sure he doesn’t know any proper infection control. Don’t go here because they don’t care about quality. I can’t imagine what they do in a kitchen this is really frightening. If I could I would give them no stars.

Tiny little place, mostly for drive/​walk thru but they have a small inside restaurant if you’d like to sit and enjoy your meal. The customer service is good and also quick. My breakfast burrito was prepared fresh, unlike many overated chain establishments. I don’t come here often because I’m not a fan of long lines so I take advantage of moments like this morning where the morning breakfast rush has calmed. We enjoyed 2 chorizo with potato and egg burritos for just $ 6.00! Good deal!

You know… back in the day they were THE place to go. Last 3 tomes they have messed up out order. Food is really good I have to say… but not sure what has happened with being attentive. Will probably given them another chance… but really dissapointed lately.

Service has gone considerable downhill in the last few months. Usually call in a phone order and told 20 – 25 minutes which is no problem, but total time after waiting in Perone on top of the told 25 minutes it’s almost an hour, and no one is here! It’s unfortunate we have no good Mexican food restaurants in Brentwood. The food is nothing special here either.

I’m not one who complains much when it comes to restaurants but this place is a joke. The last three times within about a 2 months span, the wait for your food to be made is ridiculous. Needless to say, there needs to be some serious changes to the way they operate. Be prepared to wait at least 40 minutes for a simple order.

I came here with my grandma one afternoon to try a kaysadeea. The employee that helped us (Cristian) was a very kind chap, however he did drive his Mustang Ford a bit too reckless for my liking. ⁹⁄₁₀ would recommend to any local gerbers.

Ugh! All I wanted was two Tamales and I got some dry chicken in a flavorless corn casing. Seriously had a better tamale in the frozen section at costo. They gave me some sauce with it but tamales are not supposed to need a sauce, and honestly it didnt help. On the plus side it didnt take that long to get the food. I was the only person there although it would have been nice to be able to sit at a clean table but oh well. I honestly just wanted some bomb tamales and I got something I could have gotten at Safeway. Im highly disappointed. Not going here again even the salsa was tasteless I thought that was impossible!

We’ve been going here for years. My son loves their burritos and we’ll go out of our way to stop in. Recently, I stopped by and noticed them preparing tamales for the holidays (thousands are sold on ¹²⁄₂₄!). After chatting with Maria for a couple minutes our order was ready and Maria was so thoughtful that she gave us a variety of their tasty tamales at no charge. So sweet of Maria! We love their food and service.

Very poor service. Waited over 30 minutes for Ala carte tacos. We were the only customers. The employees were eating before the customers inside the restaurant. Two employees were hand feeding one another. Waters weren’t refilled for 20 minutes. Food was subpar too. No seasoning… very disappointed and probably won’t be back.

I have been eating here my whole life, my whole family loves this place, my mom and grandma have been eating here since it opened over 50 years ago, best Mexican food around.

Chorizo and egg breakfast burrito does mean it has chorizo correct? Huh. Maybe they forgot to add it?

No matter how the food tastes, horrible service doesn’t make up for anything. Even a comped item or an offer for a free soda while you wait. I should have read the Unilocal Reviews prior to my visit. I see a consistency of slow service throughout the reviews. You can add my experience to the list.
Before I continue, my order was 6 tacos and an order of chilaquiles. What would you say is a reasonable wait time?
I called in at 1:15 pm, quoted 10 – 15 minutes. Arrived at 1:25 pm and let the person know I was here for pick-​up. After 20 minutes waiting, another customer placed an order at the window, and they received there order before me. What happened to mine? I asked where my order was and it was apparently lost. Not even started. Not even considered. What was the point of placing a phone order?
After all the waiting, I finally received my order at 1:55 pm (40 minutes). When my order was handed to me, I got a thank you. I guess an apology was not warranted or deserved.
Don’t make the mistake I did in choosing this place. Also make sure to read there recent Food Facility Inspection Report from 06÷19÷15 & 10÷14÷15 before making your decision on this place.
Honestly, if your time is important to you, going a few blocks down to La Costa is well worth it.

I eat every Saturday at their farmers market tent, best 2 dollar breakfast burrito around. But this Sunday the wife wanted chicken burritos and she gets them a certain way at the farmers market. I called in a order to go and the clerk was a little uncertain of my order so they waited until my wife and I arrived to make sure they got the order right. Anyone can take an order and think they got it right, but to make sure they got it right was awesome. Oh, by the way, they were delicious !!!

I was excited to have ordered chilaquiles, until I took my first bite. Worst chilaquiles ever! Most of the time chilaquiles come with a green salsa and EGGS! Their chilaquiles consist of a brown, pork sauce that tasted like chili –the stew like American dish that tastes good with hot dogs. It didn’t have a single egg in the mix. The chili-​like sauce was served over hard tortilla chips instead of lightly fried tortillas. It was a complete mess. Everything was bland. My husband ordered tamales; one chicken, one cheese. They were dry and were missing a few ingredients.
I didn’t even bother finishing my plate. The beans looked like canned refried beans. The rice must have been reheated from the day before.
I think they definitely need to work on their dishes, especially since there are a couple of decent Mexican restaurants nearby.
I did like their red spicy salsa (not the watery salsa they serve with the chips, but the one that comes with your order).
I also didn’t realize their full name was El Gallito «DRIVE INN»… had I noticed that in person, I probably would have avoided it.

I originally passed on this place due to the mixed Unilocal reviews. But then I kept driving by it, and there were always people there of all sorts, so I decided to try it anyway sometime. So then a local (as in several generations of local) told me that’s where they go and said it’s where all the locals go. So I tried it that night. He said they are slow so you have to wait.
I got a mixed, a meat, and a carnitas regular burrito with hot sauce on the side. She took my order right away and I didn’t have to wait that long. They were all outstanding. The flavor is spicy and subtle. I got the hot sauce and it was very HOT for a change.
They have super burritos but I like the small size of the regular burritos, which are only $ 2.75 each. One is the perfect size and I’m very full on one. The meat ones are packed full of meat. They are a terrific value.
There was also a stack of awesome-​looking chile rellenos which I will have to try next time. I’m also going to have to try the tacos for the ultimate taste test.

Whole order was messed up. Ordered a super burrito and got only beans and rice. Also ordered a shrimp taco and I ended up getting a fish taco. The food its self was very bland as well. Definitely not going back to this place.

Horrible service and very dirty! There was flies all over the place of which is a very big turn off for me. The «waitress» dropped the menus off and didn’t even say a word to us. Then took her 15min to come back and ask what we wanted to drink. There were two tables including ours. Granted, it was a big table but there was no reason to take 15min to come back. It took nearly an hour to get our food! F this place

Meh. Not bad but not what I expected. I Ordered carne asada tacos, hubby got a shrimp burrito, and the kids got a cheese quesadilla and cheeseburger.
It took a while to get our food, which was strange since we were the only people there. The young man at the counter taking orders was super sweet, but he didn’t know anything really about the menu.
The carne asada was good, but I guess I was expecting a more «authentic» taco. The flavor was okay, but nothing to write home about.
My husband seemed to enjoy his burrito, but he pretty much likes anything. However, I asked him if he would go back and he said no. My son enjoyed his cheese quesadilla and my daughter (as usual) ate one bite of her burger and said she was full.
Overall, I would rate the food a subpar, and we will not be returning.

They have good food this over La Costa any day yea I said it lol love there beans and nachos.
