Miriam Switching Post

As I’m an avid antique and art buyer I usually hit Miriam Switching Post three or four times a week. I come here because they get leftovers from estate sales and people who don’t want to have a sale just donate here. And, the money goes for a good cause. However ever since moving to their new building their prices have been higher than the finest antique stores in town. The pricers do not know what they were doing and they overprice like crazy. Example, they have a reproduction Cameo glass vase which are selling on eBay for $ 45, that’s actually what they have sold for on eBay not what people are asking. Yet miriam is asking $ 185 each. The vaces have been sitting here for the last 3 months. Any good store should know if you price it right that won’t sit for months and you will never have to put it on sale. They do get some good items in the shop, they just have horrible people pricing it that do not know what they are doing. The manager is not friendly either. Some of the staff are very friendly, and most agree about the over pricing. Their excuse is, its for charity. I would think they would want to price it right so to sell more and faster for their charity. The old saying, a little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing, certainly ford’s at Miriam. Once an item is chipped or has been broken, it’s value is lost. Yet, they price items that without damage are worth $ 100– $ 125, they price damaged at $ 125. Its crazy! The only good values usually are in the glassware as the pricers don’t seem to know glass or how to look it up. Other than that, beware, and be ready to roll out your checkbook and over pay!!!
They need better management with a better attitude as well. This was my last time waisting time stopping in.
