Nope! Do not go to this doctor. EVER

I just called to make an appointment as a new patient. I was told that the doctor would not accept me as a patient because I currently take a controlled substance for a condition I have (I am not an addict, no pain killers or muscle relaxers or anything like that). When I asked why they said it was the doctor’s preference and would not give me a real reason. This is very disheartening and I will be telling others not to visit this office.

A few years back I found myself in a pinch when my PCP had to suddenly retire due to an illness, and I had not yet found a new PCP to replace her. A Minute Clinic NP referred me to Dr. McDonald for a follow-​up.
I’ll admit, I was very hesitant as I wanted to stay within the Vandy Group of physicians. But feeling as though I had nothing to lose, I gave her a shot.
For roughly two years, Dr. McDonald and her staff provided me with great care. It was easy to get an appointment on the fly, as well as navigate to and from appointments.
Unfortunately, this came to an abrupt end.
I found myself reminding the staff over and over again of my allergy to one particular medication.
Lo and behold, right before a holiday weekend, I drove to the pharmacy to pick up my prescription her office had sent over. The pharmacist advised his records indicated I was allergic to the medication prescribed, and he refused to fill it. Sure enough, it was the same medication I had reminded the office of on numerous occasions.
So there I was… a few minutes after 5pm on a Friday afternoon… frustrated. I took the pharmacist’s advice and called the doc’s answering service. I advised the call taker of the situation, but she advised she could not page the physician on call over prescription matters. I reiterated to the call taker that the office had already called in the prescription (non-​narcotic by the way), but had made a mistake. The call taker then again refused.
Five days later when the office reopened, the office staff seemed anything BUT concerned over the matter, and half-​ass apologized. As a result, I shall no longer use or recommend their services.

I’ve been a patient with Dr. McDonald now for over 2 years and have to say that she is absolutely the best Primary Care Physician that I’ve ever had. At so many other physician offices that I’ve been to in the past, I’d felt like they were rushing to get rid of me as quickly as possible. That’s not the case at all at Southern Hills Family Medicine. Dr. McDonald takes the time to sit down, talk with me, and really listen and figure out what’s going on as well as how to best treat it. Both she and her staff really embody the spirit of caring that a number of other medical professionals seem to lack.
The facilities are always clean and well-​kept. The waiting room is very welcoming and comfortable. Wait times for me have always been less than 10 minutes and I’ve never had an instance where I’ve called in to schedule an appointment and had to wait more than a day to see Dr. McDonald.
Bottom line: If you’re looking for a Primary Care Physician, I highly recommend checking out Southern Hills Family Medicine of Brentwood!
