Jiffy Lube

WARNING about fraud at the Brevard Jiffy Lube. I went in for an oil change today, and when I saw one of the workers disposing of a filthy air filter, it crossed my mind to ask if they serviced the filters of the interior heating system, as the previous owners of my van had dogs and the heat stinks when I turn it on. The manager told me they did and that they could change the filter. I left for 20 minutes to run some errands, and when I returned to pay my bill, I was charged for the oil change and the air filter. I asked to see the air filter they’d removed, and it turns out they hadn’t changed any air filter at all, so they had just CHARGED ME FOR WORK THEY HADN“T DONE. This is straight up theft. Once discovered, they quickly ordered an air filter from a nearby parts store, as they didn’t have my size in stock. It also turns out that the air filter they replaced had nothing to do with the heating system. It was the air intake for the engine, and when they pulled my old one, it was barely dirty and I doubt it needed replacement.
The manager claimed that the worker who was supposed to install it was waiting for the part, but I think this is a story to cover their tracks once I found out they hadn’t done the work they charged me for. And even if that had been the case, they are responsible for not charging any customer until all work is completed. Had I not asked to see the old filter, I’d have driven off and never known the difference. Maybe they saw a woman from out of town and figured they could cheat her easily. I recommend taking your business to a more honest shop, and if it truly was some miscommunication on their part, at least a more organized and functional shop.

This Jiffy Lube is about as nice as other Jiffy Lubes, I’m sure. The guys working there are efficient and don’t attempt to upsell other unnecessary services (except the air filter). I imagine if you are a local you are already heading to the locally owned car shop, but if you find yourself in need of a quick oil change you could do worse than to stop here.
